can you respawn in these 'random' missions ?, Im finding them quite hard and die early on. ---------- Post added at 11:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 AM ---------- Nice post Top - it is just this kind of basic easily read and digestable material that newcomers to editing need. I am just bowled over by scripts and triggers that even the 300 odd page ARMA1 editing guide is just not simplified enough. I recall for OFP there was a tutorial online for mission making, showing every single step - one for ARMA2 would be great.

Anyone know if there is a way to respawn - their awfully hard, am playing on regular. On a totally unrelated note , aiming deadzone in options, what does this mean ?

Respawn for Random Combat missions ?
cartier90 replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It can be annoying having played in a mission for 45 minutes to die. -
Id be interested to know if BIS were anticipating selling as many copies of ARMA2 as OFP. A few other q's as well. What were the approximate development costs, and how much profit goes to the devs themselves rather than the publisher. Of course ballpark figures are all Id expect. Seems a tragedy that many less complex - yet more popular games sell 5 million plus - whereas BIS would be lucky to match OFP's c1million.

Is the combat section totally random, within an area that one specifies on the map. Random as in number of opposing troops - how many mission types are there ?

AI in Rainbow Six Raven Shield was fantastic, it was CQB though. Will future patches increase AI in CQB environments ?, they could react faster at times.

Can the AI see through grass? Some testing.
cartier90 replied to datter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I have found it rather awkward, I really dont want to turn the grass off as it looks great. Will friendly AI be 'blocked' from seeing enemy others as well ? How would this be done, would a percentage value of chance be assigned to a obscured unit. So say, a partially hidden unit has a 25% chance of being seen. The problem is a 'analogue' one, not a matter of being seen or not. -
Respawn for Random Combat missions ?
cartier90 replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Random missions, are in the Missions section, you can edit where a combat, defense or attack mission takes place, you can also select 'patrol length' up to 2 hours. -
I have no military experience, but I do know that body armour given to troops is to stop multiple rounds of 7.62 , as for helmets - Im not so sure . In game at least, a centre mass hit or 2 is enough to kill. Surely this is not the case IRL. Is it possible for BIS to patch this - or perhaps no one is wearing any ?. The back of US forces have water pouches ...perhaps underneath ? Is it possible for a modern US soldier, say in Iraq, to 'take' 3 or 4 7.62 rounds to the torso and continue to fight - admittedly with bruising. As for helmets, they seem to have little use in game.

biggles - I got an I7 - 4 gb and a GTS250 - runs great - you should have no issue. -
Command issues - Helicopter transport.
cartier90 replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Cheers ppl, - Id of thought the AI pilots would have been a little quicker to land, It would of been nice to have a 'rolling' exit at 3ft say while the AI pilot hovers slowly then GTFO quickly. Very slow to do everything. -
I have got into a heli, 15 under my command in all including 2 door gunners and pilot. Im a real noob at mission design, and so , like I did in OFP , I muddle my way through, ordering the pilot to go to a point near a town. When we reach said point I order everyone to disembark - as this is the only way I get the chopper to land and to get out with every one else. Is there a more 'refined' way of doing this ?..an order to let just me and the platoon out rather than both gunners and the pilot getting out and for me to order them back in ?.

Do you really hear the crack of a bullet whizzing by?
cartier90 replied to HmoobSoldier's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Is that your vid Schurer - never seen a POV vid like that, bloody frightening ! - thats suppression for you, how the fuck do you react to that !. -
The gelatin cutaways showing VERY wide temporary disruption is quite scary, yes only temporary, but just to think that a piece of shrapnel or bullet could create a 8 inch wide hole in you is humbling. Id go round the place like Ned Kelly - if I were there, temperature might be an issue tho ;)

is there a way to extand the grass draw distance?
cartier90 replied to topeira's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sorted Longers....download the pack, unzip to desktop. Only two important files are the two PBO files. Landtex_v0.6 and the one ending in bisign. Create a new folder on your desktop called @LandTex3 , within that folder create another called Addons , within that one place the two pbo files. Take that master folder (@LandTex3) and place it in your arma2 folder. C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 - or whereever you keep Arma Now go to your ARMA shortcut that you have on your desktop , if not create one, and paste the following into target (right click properties of your desktop) "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -mod=@LandTex3 -nosplash Obviously the file structure will depend on your comp, D drive for example, note the space before and after -mod=@LandTex3. Best copy and paste and amend as needed. And voila, enjoy the textures. -
Its been a staple part of OFP, that once a force is losing there will be runaways ! - Setting myself up in a mission as a civilian , I placed one squad of US soldiers versus OFPFOR on a open field. After about 3 or 4 mins, whatever squad was losing ( which Im glad seems to be truly random on repeated tries ), there would be units running away - fair one, Id do the same. However, while tracking them in map view, I noticed without fail, these 'cowards' have a change of heart and run back to the fight - only to be killed by the opposing force which is still stronger in numbers , or there wouldnt have been a reason to run away !. This is a little disapointing, has anyone noticed AI run way off into the distance not too return ?, I am glad though that the AI actively seeks, and runs after even these stragglers. Course I may be being harsh, perhaps the AI units are just temporarily retreating, seemed strange to return though.

Nope , new map - just two groups opposing. Check it out in the editor, go to map view and watch from above. Fast forward the time and you get a really good view of flanking, retreat and attack.

Not too bad really, obviously, ARMA type gameplay is a shock to the system for the unitiated, even reviewers. How many other games try what it does ?. The reviewer probably didnt even know about the vast potential - the addons, mods, patches that will keep a fanbase for the next 10 years... -

I would just like the shortcut method - apologise for ignorance , but step by step, where do I create a shortcut and do I put the PBOs in the addon folder ? -

Just wondering where the saved mission folder is from the editor...forgot what acronym it is , not pbo , something else. I have vista , file structure as follows... C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 - there only seems to be Addons Data Keys Missions ( with nothing in there) MP missions A shortcut to the BIS website and a few read me's. I wanted to find the cfg file and maybe edit some of the scenarios in the editor. Is this possible, was in OFP.
