    This is a demo guys...DEMO...did I mention it was a DEMO. No matter how you release things, you will never please everyone, we debated putting everything including 3rd party addons into one rared file but then that would have frustrated alot of people who are already running the 3rd party addons for other mods. The highlands island and the ghostland are test islands, we decided to release so we could show you what veg we are working on; and give you a theatre to test out our work. Again this is a demo meaning an unfinished product, released so you can get a taste of things to come.

    Okay now that the demo has been released. There are a few items that I want to mention. - RPG2 has a text prob when seen far away, I've checked the paths but still need to look into the prob. - two versions of the bn880 tracer addon where used on differing missions, so they might throw errors but the mission still functions. - some unfinished objects have been used in the missions causing error messages but they don't imped on the mission. Also these are old units which will no longer be worked on, so no effort was made to improve face texture seams, hands, helmets etc. As stated before we have a complete set of new units, pics of these will start to filter out in the up coming weeks (the SF units where the first of the new units). Enjoy the demo.

    okay sorry for causing you pain in the long delay....... lets just say you wont need to take any more morphine. All the testing is complete. Demo II Alpha build 1.0 is ready and will be available as soon as the web admins make it so. Enjoy and remmeber keep your M16a1 very clean, or just kick the rust off your AK47 and let loose.

    @BeErZyMoTiC No insult was meant re the Air/Cav dudes. Just saying that the models are 80% done, And I didn't want you wasting your time but if you have great textures to add then go for it. Plus these units wont be released for a while, as they fall under the new models as do the SF units. , soooo close, as X said.......even closer now

    @ Shinbusan hmmmm, thats an idea sort of like making units that are jam compatible......we can do that for you (not a big job). Just remind me a couple of months down the road lol. nice work on the face textures by the way.

    Most of our mod team has read "The Hill Fights, First BATTLE of Khe Sanh", by Edward F. Murphy. some very very intense stuff. These took place in 67. @ Shinbusan - our mp team uses custom faces, I went and made my own for the Llauma heads, if you've got a talented texturer maybe he could transfer over your current team faces. Are you using the first versions of Lluama heads at the moment or the original ofp heads. The units being released with this demo have the original OFP heads. @ SAV hehe welcome back

    heh As you can see the unsung team, has some very well read members, dedicated to making an accurate vietnam mod, we base our work on stacks of research from books, articles, after action reports, from many sources. the Khe sanh campaign will reflect our dedication and show actual actions within the bounds of OFP/AA.WE hope you find it exciting to play and informative.

    @Shinbusan  re Llauma heads we'll have to test them in mp to see if they are practical, the ones we are using now work very well, I have not tested the new ones, thanks for the heads up. @BeErZyMoTiC Air cav will be done, no need to make your own  main focus of campaign will start off covering the hill fights in 67 and carry over to the siege of 68.

    As X stated we've decided to hold off on releasing the new model units as is, as this would cause more headaches then fun. Unfortunately the new units include all our SF branches, and more. They are well under way but there is alot of scripting and modding to do to, taking pics of them ingame and making them look tres cool, is different then letting you guys have at it with them. We are still looking for more exp. modders to help out, the big push for Khe Sanh will require alot of new items to be made. So if your interested please contact any Unsung member. Cheers Â

    @ the Architect, re grass, it all comes down to compromise, the grass doesn't look to bad when your a ground pounder walking thru it. But it comes down to object/face counts. on a 512x512 island you really have to pay attention to object counts, there is only so many you can use. When it comes down to playability each 50x50 foot section can only have so many face counts in it (especially in a heavily veg covered environment), plus the amount of transparencies starts to impact the speed of the game due to proccessor power being used up to calculate the viewable areas.We at the unsung Mod are hoping that AA with it's newer engine/compressions, will better handle areas of dense vegitation, where we can have better ground cover models. Also re disappearing bushes you wont run into that problem on our islands but we do cut off the model at LOD 25, to save the computer having to render at those distances, if view distance is lower then 900 you wont be able to see that far anyways.When AA comes out we might be able to remedy that.What I've tried to do with the objects seen from far away is keep the areas that you can see , stay the same , but remove objects which you are unable to see eg. the dense forest from far away I have removed the logs and small tree trunks but have keeped the canopies and larger tree trunks.I hope this answers your questions, we are constantly tweeking our models, and welcome constructive critisim to make our mod better. thanks again for the comments

    RE time table .....I learned my lesson last time. I'm not going to give a release date until a full build test is done. As it stands the mission testing is coming along nicely the units/weapons are almost there, just some small annoyances. RE SF I'm sorry to say that there wont be an SF release until the full mod release. We just didn't have the manpower to finish and trouble shot all the sf units/sf weapons intime for this release, but I promise that you will be pleasently surprised with what is coming down the pipe.....the Ia drang valley and Ashau by PGI and Hawkins will show you the level to what this team can produce.

    the view distance will only be shortened in the dense jungle areas the rice paddies / palm forests/ grass fields wont be adjusted, the tall elephant grass will only have the view distance adjusted if your lying down.

    thanks for your feedback we do seriously take into consideration your thoughts, I will be revisiting the canopy issue once this release is out and khe sanh campaign nears completion. your right in your estimate of the release date. thanks for your patience.....not that you had a choice

    update: missions are in final beta testing by team. The addition of unit/weapon updates has slowed down the mission builders due to having to update their mission to work with the updated units/weapons. there will be another update of the uns veg the jungle sections no longer have the bad trunk textures when looking at them from far away, the square panel seen in the grass sections from a distance has been scraped as I couldn't get it to look natural. More differing grass sections have been made. A palm forest has been finished but is in initail testing but hopefully this will be available. Anyhow sorry for the delay we tried to make a fast release after the initail demo release but we felt that we needed to fix some of the concerns expressed by the comunity in order to make a worth while update before the full mod is released. cheers

    some of our team are very prolific, Hawk has made a new Ashau island I took a recon team through recently to locate / observe and report any enemy activity. This is Hawks project and is not an Usung project, but I have to say that I'm glad we have him on our team.

    thanks for the feed back, getting critiqued from people who were actually there is very welcome, We have a vet who is our reality check, and has been very helpful, as you will see in the next demo release, more missions, more islands, and more accurate looking marine/ NVAunits and better veg. Just a note the above pictures are taken from the Ia Drang Valley made entirely by Polish GI. It's not an offical Unsung Island but he has used our stuff which anyone can, as long as acknowledgement is given (I wish it was an Unsung Island, he's raised the bar).

    maybe AA will allow us to make higher res veg objects that wont impact on performance to greatly. Everything is a compromise when working with OFP. I've been working and reworking the forests to get the best visual to performance mix. I hope the canopy doesn't take away from your experience of what I consider one of the best nam islands made to date, the attention to detail/scope/sounds/scale really immerse the player, ENJOY!!
