    Future of pharamceuticals in China

Is it really that bad? I assume you live in China by the use of the word 'we'. Do you think it's likely to change anytime soon? I assume this fear of bad and counterfeit drugs is putting a major dent in the potential earnings of the drug companies is that correct? Do you see anything likely to change this anytime soon?

    Future of pharamceuticals in China

Wow so I presume even their own future potential consumers of drugs have little confidence in their national manufacturers? Is that right?

    Future of pharamceuticals in China

That's great information indeed. What I was aiming at though is considering whill China become a major consumer of such drugs rather than a producer due to the increase in their living standards. If this is the case will they be able to supply their population's needs through their own drug manufacturing industries or will they have to buy from Western firms (giving us an easy way into the market and directly into the specific firms we choose to invest in). I assume China don't do much if any research into new drugs as all their top academics are presumably tied up with the industrial drive. Is it possible that lack of development and confidence due to scares in their own drug manufacturing industry will force them to buy from abroad? If so how big is it going to be? I heard they gave one guy in charge of drug manufacturing the death penalty after he used counterfeit ingredients!!

You haven't read the thread carefully enough. If you look a few posts down you will see the initial post was 'bait'

    What's in it for China?

Hi, Watching the news I see the Chinese have been observed selling trucks and fighter jets (and providing training) to the (if I've got this right) Sudanese government which are using them in Darfur (spelling?) where there are blatant and obvious atrocities of the machete kind going on against civlians. I don't want to discuss the moral aspects as they're obvious but what I'm wondering is what's in it for the Chinese? Why would someone as rich as them get involved in something so dodgy and in a fashion which they know will be spotted by the world's media? It's not like they need the money. They probably had to lend it to them in the first place for them to be able to buy the weapons. Seems like a pointless exercise to get themselves bad press. Is this just one in the eye for the West or what? What are their motives?

BT invest 1.5 billion in Super-Fast Broadband

In reply to walker: I've completely digested your post now and what a post it is! Quite amazing what you can learn in the space of a day if you're lucky enough to catch the attention of the right people. So bascially the only really interesting thing from a financial perspective is that the fibre optics and super fast broadband industry is set to grow and grow as it is the bread & butter future of the giant which is the communications industry. All BT's 1.5 billion announcement means is that they are making an effort to compete. Something which savvy people like yourself knew they had to do anyway. From what I understand from your post they've just had their old technological and legal safety rug pulled by a government which believes in competition not monopolisation. So who's going to make all the money then out of this future industry? Will it be the firms who make the fibre optic cables or is there already enough of that installed for BT to be able to rent what it doesn't have as it sounds like Virgin already have theirs installed? Or is it BT's strategy to own all their own network hardware thus meaning they'll be installing new stuff left, right & centre? From what I hear on another forum it sounds like Virgin's pipework is close to capacity so any major new builds would mean new underground services would have to be run to them. That's probably a trivial issue though compared to what they already have in place. If there is lots of new installation work to be done then will companies like BT have been smart enough to see this coming (I presume they will have) and have agreed contracts with manufacturers to buy fibre optic stock at fixed prices for a fixed term? This is so interesting, I never realised capitalism had so many colourful sides to it.

Your replies are amazing walker, as always. To the other lads, sorry I had to be so sneaky!!

Thanks for the replies lads, the original post was intentionally over the top to try and gauge people's reaction to such a statement. I wanted to hear the views of intelligent people on the issue thanks all for your great input

    What's in it for China?

Good replies chaps! @walker So instead of having to get so dirty and 'manually' affect what's going on companies can use sophisticated mathematical models to simulate what will occur and react accordingly. Surely don't they have to factor the absence of their own influence on the situation aswell though? Must be a difficult process where they have to update the variables involved daily, but much better than having to get so directly involved. @4 IN 1 I see, so is it possible that certain wars such as those in the Gulf have been intentionally started indirectly by the oil companies to raise oil prices which makes them richer and also causes other major knock-on effects that are beneficial to them such as the removal of non-lean companies in major industry sectors leaving only a handful of operators in those sectors which they can then influence more easily and with more stability in a situation rather similar to what we were describing above in Khartoum but on a much grander scale and with much more inertia? Lol sounds like humans behave like atoms. Always trying to get to the lowest and most stable configuration

    What's in it for China?

Wow some great replies there men all the way from Balschoiw to walker. Thanks for your insight and input. Things like Uranium are important to countries using and intending to use Nuclear power in the future I presume. Also I would imagine they're useful to countries whom are fledgling nuclear powers both in weapon and energy senses. Given that the world's developed western nations are under pressure from their population not to use nuclear power and already have vast amounts of nuclear weapons (which I presume don't need to be maintained by more Uranium to remain effective) is it fair to say that potential fledgling nuclear powers such as maybe say Iran and others will have great need of these Uranium supplies in the future? If so doesn't that mean whoever got control of these resources now will have future developing nuclear nations in their pocket? @Walker Another great post (as were everyone else's) so does that mean that once you get too many fingers in the pie the chances of one power being able to bring stability to the exploitation of a new natural resource evaporate into ugly infighting, espionage and brutal local warfare? Would this be bad for (or put a limit on) share prices in major companies trying to indirectly control these resources (such as oil for example) or are these things happening on too high a level to affect things like the stock market and world economy?

    What's in it for China?

So the Arab based parties in Khartoum are trying to boot out the African lads to get full control of the oil. Is that right? So the Oil companies want this to happen, is that because they'd prefer one group to control the reserves to prevent instabilities? You talk about Nigeria and Biafra what happened there? A carbon copy of this situation? Why would this stop Western efforts to control these areas? Great post you've got wonderful insight into this

    What's in it for China?

Nice one guys, thought I could trust you lads to see through the nonsense and get to the truth. Makes sense now cheers. Other than oil what are the major resources Africa has available? What does Libya have that France would want to risk getting so dirty over?

    Cover blown

I can remember using a script to check a unit's behaviour some time ago. The unit in question was the one I was playing. I'm sure I can remember that putting my weapon in hand instead of on my back changed my behaviour from "SAFE" to"AWARE". Don't think it worked for secondary weapons though. As for the russians going mad when you pull out your pistol won't they do this automatically if you setcaptive to false? Sounds like a good mission

    Heli fly in height command

I see, so if I did the following: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">"_x dosomething parameter" foreach units player Will this cause the dosomething and parameter code to be excuted on every unit in the group that the player is in?
  18. chris330

    mortors

Very tricky. IIRC no-one ever figured out how to use the action command to get a unit to fire on demand. The only way I can think of would be a non-ideal work-around that scripted your desired effects using a script which set-off slightly randomly dispersed mortar rounds near the player and removed ammo from the firers as it did so. Drop me a line if you want it made

    Saves Break Custom Sounds

More than likely an unfixable issue with the game engine. I would imagine someone like Blanco would have his stuff as tweaked and tidy as the default Bohemia stuff so it's probably nothing to do with a config error or the like. It's just a game bug.

    OWP Mi26 won't dropoff apc

Use a trigger that activates when your transport Mi-26 is at your desired location. Make it a trigger that uses East, Present. Put the following in the condition field: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">mychopper in thislist Where mychopper is your unit ID. Have the onActivation field contain the following: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">mychopper flyinheight 10;mychopper exec "heightcheck.sqs" Make a script called "heightcheck.sqs". Have it run a simple loop to check the chopper's height: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">#wait _z1=getpos _this select 2; ?_z1<15:goto "drop"; ~0.001 goto "wait"; #drop global_unhook=true; exit If you do it this way your trigger won't ever execute until your transport heli enters it thanks to the 'in thislist' part. When it does it will tell the heli to drop to 10 meters and run a script that waits for it to get below 15 meters where it then makes the global_unhook variable become true. Presumably then the main addon/script's author will have instructed the chopper to drop the BMP. Should work fine

Head over to OFPEC. They have loads of stuff like that there. If you can't find exactly what you're after you'll find something that can be easily modified to do it
