    JAM3 - Beta testers

Hi all, Just to let you know that MAAM has been updated to version 1.31. This brings it exactly into line with the JAM3 Beta2 that the team are currently working on, so you can base your comments and criticisms on that. If you want to check it out, please visit the thread HERE. Thanks CH

    JAM3 - Beta testers

The sounds in the Private JAM3 beta are the same as the sounds for MAAM1.3. Both MAAM soundpacks, in both repeater and non-repeater format, are planned to be released for JAM. It will just be a matter of the user swapping which JAM_Sounds.pbo is used. So, if you want to hear how the new JAM will sound, check out MAAM Cheers, CH

Thanks for the comments guys, some really interesting stuff here. The JAM3 Beta Readme is currently a Word document, just like the MAAM readme. Is that OK? Cheers, CH

    JAM3 - Beta testers

Hi folks, I'm sorry - we've decided not to include any new weapons models in JAM3. They overcomplicate things, bloat the filesize and distract from JAM's real purpose, which is to provide common magazines for balanced MP and inter-usability between weapons by different authors. Still, let's look on the bright side. We've still got an expanded set of sounds, some extra features, and the chance to add and balance any ammo we need. I will update the beta tonight, then sadly I have to leave any more development the capable hands of the beta team. I've reached the limits of my ability in OFP editing, and gone way over the limits of my available time already.  Cheers friends  Cornhelium

    JAM3 - Beta testers

Hi Sputnik, Have you tried MAAM1.3? Most of the sounds have been improved, and you can easily swap individual sounds. Why not use MAAM to compile a set of sounds, then release your own MAAM soundpack? It's easy, and you can easily pack the sounds into a JAM_Sounds.pbo so that JAM will use them Cheers, CH Ps. Everybody, could you vote in the "JAM3 - Upgraded weapons for OPFOR?" poll please, >NOT< in the " - BIS models for OPFOR"? Sorry - I was unclear in the first poll. Will try harder next time Â
  7. Sorry everyone. I didn't explain this poll very clearly. Please could you vote again? Thanks. Mods - please could you close the other poll? Tks

    JAM3 - Beta testers

Just AT launchers and weapons. ...please, give us some config examples of the tracers and ballistics you want. We've got a great opportunity here, but I'm an absolute beginner at config editing. Interesting point. Could you whip up a magazine config entry for, say, a mounted M240, in both HD and non-HD flavours please? By comparing that to the existing entry, I could include similar "mounted" mags for all MGs. Hmm, the models are already in the BIS_Weaponpack, so why not. I would need some advice on config values to give them. What rounds do they fire IRL? The same round as the M203/GP30? I have put some love into the pistol sounds. You could always d/l MAAM1.3 to see what I'm talking about. I could use a  couple more good sounds for the Tokarev and Makarov, though.  Ah, uh...no m'aam. Missed that   I'll get that in the next beta build No more models will be replaced. The JAM AKs, PKM and FAL were replaced in MAAM1.3 with INQ, DKM and Ak74m's models. These make a big improvement to the legacy Tonal missions, and do not have a big impact on performance as far as I can see (no .jpg textures are used).  If people really want, they can be ripped out and we'll revert to BIS models for all weapons. I'll start a poll... Cheers for now, CH

2 Soundpacks for the new MAAM

Hehe, fair enough Avon. May I take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to BAS for giving permission, and also to Avon for taking the initiative in the first place. We will start assembling a small beta testing team next week and start a dedicated thread in A&M:D. MAAM 1.3 will be the starting point for JAM3, so please keep your comments coming on the new MAAM Please sit tight, this may be a long process due to RL pressure all round. Cheers friends Cornhelium

2 Soundpacks for the new MAAM

Hi SEAL, As far as I know, no other addons actually >use< the JAM M16s and XM177. On the other hand, the Tonalis, Edge's Guerillas, BAS OpFor, Newiy OpFor all use AKs & PKs, the FAL and the M60. The RPKs and M249 I had in during the test phase to try out sounds in-game. Consider them a bonus  In terms of usage by existing addons, I think there'd be more of a case for upgrading the RPD, SKS and Mosin Nagant models than the M16 and XM177. The problem is, where do you stop? I know you'd like MAAM to become a "one-stop weapons shop", but I think it would end up with a lot of duplication. Eg. Hyk's latest infantry use weapons from the LSR US weapons pack, loaded with JAM magazines. In this case, special models for the JAM M16s would be wasted, and would bump up the filesize. One of the great things about JAM is that it has a very small footprint memory wise. We have to be realistic about what's already out there, and strike a balance between a quality game experience (sounds, models) and keeping this small footprint. Cheers, Cornhelium

MAAM: Mutually Accepted Ammo & Magazines addon

Hi Ruff, Absolutely no problem with the sounds, if MAAM became JAM. Old missions only "care" what magazines and weapons are used - it makes no difference what fire sound the magazine uses. It would just be a matter of packing both soundpacks into separate JAM_Sounds.pbo's. Then people could use whichever set of sounds they wanted. Don't try this at home though, as the config/models/texture paths/pics etc. would also need changing in the JAM_Magazines.pbo ...but hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves here Cheers, CH Ps. Avon, I agree about moving to the new thread. Mods, could you do the honours please ?

2 Soundpacks for the new MAAM

Hi C4P741N, I know where you're coming from, but the filesize could get too big if models are added needlessly. I upgraded the AKs, PK, M60 and FAL simply because so many addons use the JAM versions of these weapons. Thus if/when BAS give approval for MAAM to revert to JAM, we would see Tonalis, Russian OpFor, Newiy's OpfFor, Edge's Guerillas etc using these upgraded models. However, the growing trend is for addons to use, say, Laser/ ORCS/E&S weapons equipped with JAM magazines. And rightly so. Look at Hyk's latest troops - they use Laser's US Weapons pack for models, and JAM magazines. Earl & Suchey also made a version of their MARPATs that use their own awesome weapons with JAM magazines. This is the purpose that JAM was intended to serve - it provides the magazines only and gives balance between weapons by different authors. Adding E&S or LSR M16 models to MAAM/JAM would thus be a waste of memory in this case. I think MAAM should only upgrade weapon models if there is a popular addon that already uses the JAM version of that weapon. Eg. The JAM RPD, Mosin Nagant and G3 are used by the Tonalis, so there would be a case for upgrading those models if better ones could be found. The real meat of MAAM is in the config values for the magazines. Do you want WGL-style engagement ranges? FDF-style recoils? Both? Neither? Are you making an exotic weapon and want a new magazine for it? Well, the ball is in your court Cheers, Cornhelium

MAAM: Mutually Accepted Ammo & Magazines addon

Hail fair brethren! MAAM v1.3 is now available for download http://img185.exs.cx/img185/953/tonalismaam6mv.jpg[/img]>100kb Here is an extract from the ReadMe: ==================================================== ========================================================== Requirements and installation: ========================================================== ==================================================================== Download links and mirrors (thanks Avon): ==================================================================== MAAMv1.3 -------- Filefront Rapidshare Community Soundpack ------------------- Filefront Rapidshare Rainbow Soundpack ----------------- Filefront Rapidshare Repeater MG sounds for Community Pack ------------------------------------- Filefront Rapidshare Repeater MG sounds for Rainbow Pack ----------------------------------- Filefront Rapidshare More mirrors on the way Download from Flashpoint.ru ========================================================================= This release is mainly a cosmetic upgrade to MAAM. Due to RL pressures I can't work on it anymore, so I'm now passing the ball back to the community to take it to the next level. There is already a fairly comprehensive set of small-arms magazines in MAAM. What we need now is a big input from the community on the config values for that ammo. Do you want WGL-style engagement ranges? FDF-style recoils? Both? Neither? Well, the ball is in your court. Please post some example config entries to go with your suggestion, along with observations of how it works in-game. Think of the values that you'd like everyone to be using online and offline, giving the best balance between realism and playability, and start from there. If you want a new ammo type in there, please post the config values you think it should have. Hopefully we can eventually get something that more people are happy with using, online and off, and BAS will allow it to revert to a JAM3, compatible with all existing JAM addons. For an idea of what that might be like, just check out the MAAM version of Rebel Road...imagine the Tonal/Tangos using those weapons and sounds by default, with no need to update existing missions and campaigns, along with all the other great JAM addons like BAS Deltas/Rangers, OPFOR, Hyk troops, PUKF, MARPAT-JAM, Edge's Guerillas etc... ...Good luck to whoever takes on the next MAAM release, and have fun Cheers, Cornhelium Ps. For anyone interested, this release covers points 14, 23, 50, 52, 54, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 73, 75, 78 and 79 from this thread

MAAM: Mutually Accepted Ammo & Magazines addon

Good evening and welcome Just  updating the "wishlist" with some recent requests: #68 Wipman asked for a non-installer version of AMORE. (p8) #69 Uziyahu suggested randomised fire sounds for weapons, something like the randomised bullet hit sounds. (p8) #70 Pajama offered sounds (Thanks PJ!) (p9) #71 TermiPete suggested the MAAM, CAVS and ACES projects should associate more closely, maybe sharing a website as the "OFP Standards Initiative", with a banner link from ofp.info (PM) #72 Uziyahu suggested replacing the MAAM Bizon with an AS Val or VSS Vintorez, as the Bizon did not exist in the Soviet inventory. (PM) #73 Uziyahu asked for a the Ghost Recon "man hit" sound be used for one of the Soundhits (PM) [DONE - MAAM 1.3] #74 KillSwitch asked for a Carl Gustav launcher and ammo to be added (PM) #75 KillSwitch asked for some new groups in the mission editor (PM) [DONE - MAAM 1.3] #76 shinRaiden looking at splitting up the config into .hpp sections for weapons, gruops etc. (PM) #77. shinRaiden asked for weapon/mag loadout scripts to be included in the MAAM_Magazines.pbo, so mission makers could just put 'this exec "AK74HD.sqs"' in a unit's initfield for example (nice idea!!) (PM) #78. Cornhelium suggests including an open config file with each new MAAM version, with the changes from the previous version highlighted. [DONE - MAAM 1.3] #79. Cornhelium suggests changing some of the bullet fly and hit sounds to make them more varied and noticeable. [DONE - MAAM 1.3] Cheers, Cornhelium Ps. Something a little more interesting coming down the wire. Stand by...

    PC Zone Issue 151

Well spotted t-A, I agree, OFP deserves so much more respect in the wider games-playing community. It makes many other "groundbreaking" games look like smoke and mirrors to me, and I sometimes worry that even Codemasters don't really "get" it. PC Zone UK have always had good things to say about Flashpoint. I remember they ran early features in 2000 and last year an article "Games that changed the world: Operation Flashpoint". As for the graphics...well, I'm still blown away by 16 colours and parallax scrolling Cheers, Cornhelium

    New AH-64D Pack

Excellent work Franze! I love the MFD functions, suspension script, and the model is great. For the final I'd suggest consulting with Footmunch to define the materials and add specular highlights. I wonder if the target-sharing script from DKM's Tunguska could be adapted to the Radar Longbow? With this, having the radar turned on makes you more visible to the enemy, but your wingman can be sharing your target info, sneaking in for the kill in Radar-off mode Great work anyway - it's almost like playing Longbow2 again Cheers, Cornhelium
