Bug tracking is fine but...
boecko replied to Espectro (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ABOUT BUG TRACKING SYSTEM
no .... i just wanted a closed forum for the people who are actively managing the BTS, so things are coordinated. -
This is place for discussion issues and strategies about using the BTS. When you want to report a game bug start here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BTS_Instructions
-
You're definitely  at the wrong place for reporting this look her -> http://bugs.armed-assault.net/view_all_bug_page.php This place is for discussing issues about the BTS;)

because nobody in the UK reads "zee german gaming news sites" This time it's platinum Â

Ok .. but where are the gold status announcements? Google didn't find any 11 days to: * get the master to production * distribute it Tough schedule In Germany the gold status came on 07.11.06, that made approx. 3 weeks to get it to the stores.

@plaintiff1 you mean the reformatting? oh yeah. Radio Yerevan was asked: "Is it true that BIS fixes all bugs on the list with the next patch?" Radio Yerevan answers: "Yes, but it's not the list you talking about." Bye
-
Haha , last time i checked the BIKI "bug tracker" isn't used by BIS at all. It's used by the community. I should discuss this only with people who have actually submitted bugs to the list and you're not one of them. Maybe you don't like the handling, eh?
-
@Balschoiw About the "crossposting": Ok sorry.. but it helps a lot to clarify things about my regained motivation on the topic. I didn't talk about it for 2-3 weeks after my first suggestion. About my PR abilities: That's what i have in common with BIS Oh.. when a PR-Guy is listening: Your link to the official de-support-forum is wrong for about 1-2 month http://www.armedassault.com/support.html http://www.arma-game.de/ links back to http://www.armedassault.com/

@raedor Haven't you been the guy who started this BTS discussion somehow again? Quote from raedor on the german armed-assault.de page in a thread about the sinking popularity of ArmA. google-translated We did... an now we are here. Funny, isn't it?
-
Have you ever made an bug report in the list? Apparently not. So don't try to talk about things, you don't understand. 1. The BIKI-List is a community list. 2. people from the community try to keep things clean 3. I don't care how BIS does bugtracking internally, but it's "gesunder Menschenverstand" that it would help to have fixed relationships between their system and the public system (e.g. Our problem with Methodcall xyz relates to Bug #123 in the public BTS). And don't tell me this is possible with the Bikilist 4. Making a good bug report in wikilist is "rocket science". You have to know wiki markup. Uploading images takes way to much time. There is no structure given to you. 5. I'm looking forward when the 505 release is out and a lot of more people are squashing this list with "Edit wars". Do you actually know that it takes lesser time to setup the Mantis-installation than to do one Wiki-bugreport (a good one)? Worth reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugtracker

where is the substance in your post regarding the topic BTS? Stop trolling.
-
Who has to implement it? This one, setup with an importer? BTW: I think, they didn't even look at it. This could be my words. Edit: Wait! .. this are  my words! Weird.

@CanadianTerror And I, for one, welcome our new bug overlords! @NoRailgunner We had those threads in the official Help_Talk:Buglist. I'm pretty sure BIS is still tracking this thread. Suma has replied recently here and i'm confident that there will be another official reply on the issue. Bye Boecko
-
@suma or @bisPR I'd like to know, what's happening with the buglist, when GPE[1] comes out? a) will it be moved away? -> people could get angry, because it's removed, but the issue is still there. b) it stays (just marked with X, when a bug is closed) and is getting bigger and bigger, since software is never perfect. The enormous length could scare people, cause there is no statistic over the facts (50 open, 100 closed, etc). [1] greatest patch ever

A dignified answer from someone, who claims to be a Buglist-Admin. Have you actually read my posts before insulting me? My discussion was about BTS. You have shown the same competence before that. I should have known that, when replying to your post. Sorry my fault
-
@plaintiff1 It might interest you, that we left this issue some posts ago (After the suma-Post). Since that the discussion was constructive. So whats your intention? A discussion is about arguments... where is yours? Pro or Contra. Doesn't matter ..as long as you give me a rationale. There were no arguments (just "There will be no BTS") in the Wikitalk-page against a BTS. =>  there was no discussion. This thread is  getting civilized thanks to a statement from BIS (thanks suma). Edit: ... I thought, this thread is getting civilized (see next Post)

Trust me, everyone here wants that BIS succeeds. I'm not angry for being betatester. I'm angry that a lot of people (including me) is wasting their time with this list. Each tool has its purpose. WIKI for documentation. A BTS for bug reporting. A wiki is no tool for bug reporting. Try to report a bug in the wiki in a good manner (i didn't see an account with your name). This includes: * Category * Reproducibility * Severity * Priority * Product Build * Assign To * Summary * Description * Steps To Reproduce * Attached Files (Pictures, etc) * Status (new, acknowledged, confirmed, assigned, fixed, closed) This is a standard process in a BTS (some fields should be only modified by admins). Trying to implement these things with a wiki is not possible. A BTS gives a lot of people a better feeling about theirs issues: * you can look it up every time * it will be not deleted, just closed (e.g. if its duplicate) regards Boecko
-
I did this already. I made a ruby-script, which converts the existing BIKI-List into an existing Mantis-Installation in a second. It converts priorities, categories, creates users and adds the comments. It depends on the structure of the bugreport, but it works quite good. Best regards Boecko
-
@Scrub Since your bugreport is on the old buglist, i assume that the issue is fixed, isn't it? @whisper ..about the manpower. Why not the same manpower, which mantains the Bikilist? The Community. A BTS is easier to mantain, you get more quality reports, and the crap reports are closed in a second or marked as a duplicate. Best regards Boecko
-
Thanx ... you made my point. Maybe it was duplicated? You will never know, since you can't reference in the wiki in a sane way.
-
You hit the nail on the head. I've the impression that i've asked the wrong people about the issue. And btw.: The thread is getting constructive!.. Don't stop. @scrub That's funny ...what is more buerocratic than that? You should try to make a good bug report with Description, Severity, Steps to Reproduce and maybe Pictures in that, before making assumption about the ease of use. Bye Boecko
