Hi, it's been a long time since I've been to these forums. Everytime I come here I get flamed saying I need to search or something. I just have a simple question I would like a simple answer to. No flames, no lambasting, just be nice. Is ArmA 2 considered "Game 2"? From my understanding, Game 2 was the name given for BIS's sequel to OFP, but since they lost the OFP name they were just calling it Game 2. Then ArmA came along, but this was NOT Game 2, it was the follow up to OFP, but without the OFP name. So, to reiterate, I just want to know if Game 2 is considered to be ArmA 2 at this point?

I have that same card and have NEVER been able to play ArmA. I was so excited for this game. I got all my friends excited and we all bought it. I have still never played it. I crash to desktop everytime. I have tried every graphics setting, waited for and tried patch after patch, new drivers, everything short of a full system reload. I am able to play Half-Life 2, Crysis, Command & Conquer 3, Team Fortress 2, and anything else just fine. This is the only game I have trouble with. I'm really sad about this, but about 2 days ago I decided to give up and I uninstalled ArmA and decided to sell my disk. I was going to put it on Craig's List but if anyone here wants to buy it from me let me know. I loved OFP to death and was looking forward to ArmA, but I am beaten.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. HitmanFF, I searched for G15 and did not get that post returned in my results. Weird. I'm not a programer and don't intend on learning how to do it myself. Frederf, that is why I specifically said "I was wondering if ArmA already supports the LCD screen with any extra features" and not just a general comment about the keyboard itself. As for what to put there, off the top of my head; mission updates, ammo, compass, squad info (like what formation you have selected, etc.) just anything at all. Basically I have a new toy and want to see what it can do. Now I just need a new PC to actually run ArmA. The demo runs like poo on my system.

*Before you flame, I did search the forums for this topic already and did not find discussion about the Logitech G15 for ArmA. I'm sorry if this isn't the right forum to post my question* I just got a Logitech G15 keyboard for Christmas. I was wondering if ArmA already supports the LCD screen with any extra features or info, if not, are there plans to add support in a future patch?

Except the launcher, these tools are "useless" to the "usual player". Unless you're interested in modding the files, then you dont really need them. I think what he meant was: I'm not a modder and have no idea what this stuff is. What are you modder type people going to do with this? What cool things will we see you make with these tools? Basically it is like saying: I'm excited because you guys are excited but I have no idea why, can someone explain why this is cool?

I got a free trial to GameTap.com and have been trying it out for a week or so. For those that don't know what GameTap is, it is a service that charges monthly to download and play games. Operation Flashpoint was just added to the service in the last couple days. I think that is really cool, just because I'm all for getting more people to play OFP. The thing I hope doesn't happen is Armed Assault be released on GameTap. At least not only on GameTap. If I had to pay $10 a month to play ArmA that would be insane. Consider I have been playing OFP since the Fall of 2001 x $10/month = $600 Anyway, the point of this post is; I hope Armed Assault is not going to be release solely on GameTap as the online distribution.

Operation Flashpoint has just been added to GameTap. GameTap is a monthly service that allows you to download games and play them. I just got a free trial and noticed it was just added. I didn't try OFP since I already own it. If you are interested in just OFP I would buy the game from somewhere like Amazon, as someone has already mentioned.

OK, great. That answers my question. I haven't played in over 2 years so I thought maybe a patch had removed the cd check. That is awesome.

Hi, I just recently reinstalled OFP and Resistance after a 2 year stint in World of WarCraft. Anyway, I installed OFP(regular USA, not the GOTY) and applied the 1.30 patch, then the 1.46 patch. Then I installed Resistance and applied the 1.96 patch. Everything is fine and working. I then went to play the other day and loaded up OFP:Resistance and was playing for a while when I noticed the CD was sitting next to my monitor. My wife had taken it out to play Sims 2. I thought OFP was still in the drive. Everything worked though. The game loaded, played fine, did multiplayer, etc. So my questions are: Did the 1.96 remove the CD check? If I don't have the CD in the drive will the "fade" technology kick in? I have purchased the game, the Red Hammer, Resistance and made all my friends buy it too so we can LAN. I am not trying to hack the system or anything like that. I just want to know why it is working without the CD and if I'll come across problems if I don't use the CD. It is very convenient to not have to swap out CDs because of the way my pc is positioned it is kind of hard to get to the cd drive. Any help with this would be great. Thanks.

It works completely as advertised I think the only added feature, apart from that it's now working properly on sockets and has a bit better quality (still not super though, but that's maybe switchable later or better on high bandwidth servers), anyway... the added realism is that you can now also hear somebody talking through his radio, or when he does a radio command. With this I mean is ... for instance, an enemy is talking over the radio to their side.... Â you can still hear him speaking, if you are close to him I don't think that was in OFP Dplay? That is awesome!

At the risk of being flamed here. I love Valve, I love Steam. I bought Half-Life 2 on Steam and have had no problems with it. I believe Steam is going to help the small Indie game makers out there emmensely. Steam is very convenient and proven to work. If ArmA were to be released on Steam and Retail, I would purchase it on Steam. I don't understand everyone's hate towards Steam. I've had nothing but good experiences with it.

The real problem is not one that is solveable by BIS or anyone for that matter. No matter what they put in the game, or keep out of the game there is one key element that no one can control: the human player. When you stir into the mix human players for a multiplayer game, you suddenly draw out every worm and cockroach from under the woodwork. We end up with Homer laughing and fart sounds, you get clown and mime faces, you get people named Major Wood, CptAssPirate, xXxKillaD00dM@nF@c3xXx. The problem isn't allowing custom faces, custom sounds, the ability to pick your own name, etc. The problem is people. People are retarded. I'm not saying everyone, but a staggering amount of people out there in gaming land are just plain retarded. I have no idea why games like OFP draw these people in. I wouldn't think the style of gameplay is their bag, yet we have all encountered them in multiplayer. The only surefire way to fix the problem is to not play with people. But that to me is a problem. I enjoy multiplayer. Some of the best gaming experiences I've had were online with my friends and strangers alike. I look forward to more multiplayer memories with Armed Assault, I just hope the retards are few and far between. Tips for a better multiplayer experience: * Play with people you know. Call your buds and plan a time to all play on the same server. * Run your own server and be the boss of it. Ban any retards that may find their way to your box. * Can't run your own server? See if you can help Admin one. Find a server you like and build a relationship with the admin, maybe they wouldn't mind your help with it. * Promote the game styles you enjoy. If you like the plain old original style of play, get people excited about it. If you enjoy a certain mod, get people excited about that. Promote what you like and get others to join in the fun. * Be an example. Don't have clown faces, upload farts, or have a stupid name. * If you are not having fun playing a game then it isn't a game. If you are getting mad, then take a break, switch servers, do something different.
