ArmA has been uninstalled from my system. I really wanted to like the game, but found the game engine to be cumbersome and buggy. Servers in Australia refused to host the in-game voice comms as it added too much stress to their server load, thus removing what might have been one of the better features in the game. First impressions count, and BIS dropped the ball when they released ArmA before it was ready. I appreciate that it may have been done as a revenue raiser, but in the long term people will remember the problems they had from day one, and harbour those ill feelings in the long term. The way BIS handled the ArmA release has put me on my guard against future BIS releases, and I certainly will not be buying ArmA 2 (or whatever it's called) until the community has finished debugging the BIS code for them. Hopefully there have been some lessons learned from this exercise and their next launch will be a huge success, winning back the confidence and the dollar bills of the gaming community.

I'm still waiting to find an Australian based server that runs with it on. Voice comms are an integral part of ensuring a successful mission and adds to the immersion of a game

After my most recent CTD, I changed a few settings in CCC to see if it helped improve stability, and I got the sun blindness too.

Maybe we should leave this error as a seperate thread? There are so many errors that its getting hard to see the wood for the trees, and there are a LOT of people experiencing this exact error (myself included  ). Having a seperate thread for each of the common problems with 1.08 will make it easier to see when someone comes out with a solution

Well I thought I'd got the game stable by running it at 800x600 (anything more than that and it was a guarenteed CTD within minutes). But it seems that 800x600 isnt that great either. CTD after about 15 minutes. AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ATI x800 Pro 2Gb RAM Running the Sprocket d/l version I was hoping that I'd be really into the game with the 1.08 patch, but it seems it goes on the shelf until the next patch. Shamre really, I like the fixes that are in place, just that it's really broke too.

I was getting a lot of CTDs especially that message after installing 1.08. I found that to get stability out of the game, drop your settings as low as they will go, play for a bit, and then step by step increase the settings until they become unstable.
-
So when do we expect a patch to fix the patch?
-
I'm getting CTDs every few minutes into the game. I did a clean install of my OS (XP Pro) yesterday and installed ArmA from scratch (Sprocket version)

My friend tried the 1.6 demo last night, and the animation effects in place when zooming in and out of the ironsights was definately causing him an issue. He had to stop playing after a few minutes. A shame really because he reallt likes the game

I second the need to be able to use your 'eyes' as the focus rather than the rifle crosshair. I want to be able to look away from my ironsights and see an object and know what it is without having to move my sights over it. It's almost common sense that it would work more like that than it does at present that I'm surprised that it doesnt work like I'd expect. -
To use VOIP, when it's working, press  and hold CAPSLOCK whilst you talk. Alternatively, you can double-press CAPSLOCK to keep it turned on, and then double-press it again to turn it off. Born2Die AEF Inc. - Leading the way www.aef-hq.com.au/aef3

I recently bought the 1.5 retail version of ArmA, and havent heard a soul over VOIP, and have failed to be heard myself. It worked on the 1.3 demo release if I remember correctly. I use Ventrilo to communicate with my AEF colleagues, but when we're on a public server there is a desperate need for voice comms with the other players, so we can work together as a unit, as the game is supposed to play. Trying to type messages in the heat of battle is just a no-go. I love the way it has been implemented with the channels: global side team (squad I'm guessing) vehicle direct I just wish it would work. Please, fix this soon.
