  1. Correct them as I might be wrong, but I thought that one would enter a car the same way, armored or not, if the door opened the same way and it was the same height off the ground. Same thing for armored tracked vehicles if one was to climb up and enter from a hatch. An APC with a door or a hatch on the back, would be accessible the same way. One climbs into a fighter jet cockpit the same way no matter if it is an F-35 or a Mig-21, or am I wrong?
  2. If the entering animation in the latest Take On Helicopters trailer is any indication, Arma 3 could have them as well. It looks very smooth and realistic. I wonder then, how many different animations would they need for the different classes of vehicles? One for cars, one for tanks, one for attack helicopters, one for transport helicopters, one for fighter jets, hmmmm...
  3. From this interview, I have gathered these details: 1) Campaign will be divided into chapters with a focused area for the player to be in. That probably means not that the rest of the island will be unaccessible or the player will be punished for leaving the "zone" but that "life" and events will be limited to save computational power and to direct the player. It has been discussed before. I believe that will be a "trick" that it will only be used for the campaign and it makes sense as the campaign mostly exists to entice players used to the other more-scripted FPS's. 2) Lasers are in! "Laser-based missile defense systems" that is. Will they be large structures or portable enough to fit on a vehicle, we will see. 3) Less variety of actual different vehicles and weapons than Arma 2 but since they will be modular and customizable, they might be counted the same. 4) No Experience Points and such. RPG elements include customization and decision making (and of course dialogs and intelligence gathering). 5) PhysX means more than simple ragdoll deaths or bouncy vehicles. The few words Ivan used hinted to a general improvement of object interaction. "In addition to better implementation of the elements are already in the game, the PhysX engine also offers new possibilities for us. We can now load tanks on transport vehicles, we can slip in the mud, and cars can be soldiers rappelling. " It sounds like that some limitations that the engine had are now overcome so we might see for example characters moving on vehicles or more physical and practical interactions with the environment. BI of course could still be limited by developing time, so even some things that could be possible engine-wise could not be implemented because the actual gameplay gains wouldn't be worth it. At least in the beginning. 6) "You can now select different types of artillery attacks, with different types of ammunition and various types of effects" 7) "We would also like to include animations for getting into cars, because it contributes greatly to the atmosphere, but that's a resource issue" 8) "Although he is often able to have the opportunity to command troops AI, but who wants to play as a lone wolf, which almost always." 9) Real Time 3D Editor not yet ready but is a priority. 10) Possible enhanced HUD to indicate injuries and such: "We need to resort to auxiliary system to simulate what is lacking in comparison to the possibilities of perception of a soldier in the field."

    Some questions about diving

All we know about diving is that 1) You can sabotage vessels 2) You will have infinite amount of oxygen 3) You can scavenge submerged items 4) There will be diver assist vehicles 5) Diving will be used for short, stealthy operations I also believe that it will be very simplified as it doesn't appear to be a big part of gameplay. It could well be expanded via a DLC, but considering how limited the environment is in terms of mission potential, the developers wouldn't waste much resources on it. I am sure everyone wants to see everything simulated to its fullest, but whatever is not "economically viable" (from a developing perspective) and doesn't offer much to the gameplay, will be at the bottom of the priorities list.

Civvies Civvies! Its all about the Civvies!

I actually wouldn't expect Lemnos to change much, if at all, in the next decade or too (especially considering the present economic situation), but hey, its Armaverse, they could well have flying Ferraris with lasers.

Since we're diving under the waters of Lemnos, this here image gallery could be inspiring: (I'm waiting for this question to be asked: "if you crash a plane under the water, will it slowly rust, decay and get covered with moss and sea life?")
  8. SpooksAUS, you've played Arma, right?

You over analyse things way too much PurePassion and I hate to be the jerk again, but there is no weight in your argument. There is an extreme spherical distortion of the land due to ultra-wide wide angle "lens" BI chose for the "rendering". The lines you see are light rays, no rain, coming through the volumetric clouds. BI said the clouds are volumetric and there is no skybox. Why people have so little faith? Seriously. Chill.

    Stuff is looking too new

Sure, every modeler (plastic or computer graphics) likes to grunge-up their models to make them look more realistic and pretty (following the wabi-sabi aesthetics). In this case though, it would make sense for guns to look new, because they are new. We don't know how long the Armaverse WWIII has been lasting until the Arma 3 Lemnos situation, but even if it has been a year or two, its not enough for every weapon to look like its been dragged in the Vietnam jungle and been to every war since. I don't know the story, but its very probable that Iran has found some new wealth from within and also has been financed and equipped by China and/or allies, so it would make sense that all the weapons are more or less fresh from the factory, delivered to the frontlines still wrapped in cellophane with all the manuals and warranties in the box. Also, the soldiers we are seeing could well be special units, not all footsoldiers could be issued such equipment. That also includes the Western side, as the story in Arma 3 could exclude regular grunts and focus in more well equipped soldiers. Or at least equipped with a fresh bunch of weaponry. Plus, as it has been mentioned, the weapons are made of materials that don't age like those of more "classic" construction. Yes, grunge looks pretty, but its not always realistic.

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

Its rare, but it has snowed on Lemnos. Greece used to have full four seasons, but because of the climate change, Spring and Autumn are disappearing and snow has almost but vanished in many places. Tsk tsk tsk... do I have to keep correcting you PurePassion? :D

Well, Portoheli is a seaside touristic hotspot and a village, two elements that would contribute to year long sun exposure of the people, not like that of more closed urban environments. If you want to have an idea how locals look like, you can watch the video documentary I posted once in a now long forgotten Lemnos thread. And, he should be Greek, just because of the name. Then wouldn't complicate it further, as the name and appearance usually matches the nationality in movies and video games to keep better track of the characters. But we're talking silly little details. Everything is fine so far, I am personally very pleased with the whole environment even though they have only showed us a tiny little part, because probably the bulk of it is still very much in development. The magazine article touches upon elements that I really wanted to learn about like the dynamic RPG-style created side-quests (I had the Armoury in mind myself) and a couple of the big players. I wish the interviews were more about the bigger picture, the elements that will set Arma 3 apart in gameplay and story and where the creativity of BI reaches, instead of what XYZ weapon model will be included, which bug was corrected and every little personal pet peeve that someone had but others never even thought about. Btw, both "Lemnos" and "Limnos" are official acceptable latin alphabet spellings of the real island's name, it has nothing to do with BI.

Since he seems to be hanging out with the invaders, it would be probably a hard choice to make if you were to assist him. Unless he's a ... DOUBLE agent! Greeks have commonly light skin and only prolonged exposure to the sun would darken it. I, for example, don't tan easily. As such, it would be mostly people who stay out a lot, usually outside of large cities and are farmers, fishermen, vacationers and professionals of such services ,etc.

Nikos Panagopoulos, eh? A Greek with this kind of fashion sense and so much bling on him can't be a reputable character... he looks more like a low-class mafia-type, the kind who deals in drugs, prostitutes and weapons and could betray his own mother for money. Doesn't look like a traitor of ideology or "high class" bad guy, but a cheap opportunist. His face still comes off more North-African than Greek, but can work. At least the name is plausible. :)
  17. Can someone photograph the magazine article well? There seem to be a few good things in there but its hard to read and in places impossible.
  18. Can you use fishnet stockings and low cut tops to disguise yourself as a prostitute?

DLC for ArmA 3: A2 units

Modders have already recreated almost every vehicle from Arma 2 in more detail and variations. Why do you want BI to waste their time with the same old stuff again when there is so much hardware to pick from? I enjoy new models that are uncommon but that also demonstrate a new game dynamic and engine update. I am patiently waiting for a Zubr and wouldn't mind seeing more experimental weapons.

    Comparison picture album : Lemnos - ArmA3

If a companion island was going to be included with Lemnos, then Agios Eustratios would have been the only that made sense. After all, it falls under the administration of Lemnos. In any case, if BI has recreated the Greek environment, they could well pick any of the countless small islets and rocks that dot the Aegean seascape or make up one of their own. It doesn't have to be attached to the Lemnos map anyway.

Extremely impressive, indeed. The rocks and the vegetation ground layer are simply flawless. Not to mention the astonishing draw distance, far object detail and rendering of far textures.

How about the gulf of Moudros from the viewpoint of that new screenshot, compared with an expanded perceptive from Google Earth that includes more of the surrounding area and the airport?
  23. Regardless of storytelling, these people depicted do not LOOK Greek, not the uncovered fellah in the center and not the Middle Eastern dressed dudes around him. You might find a reason to justify their appearance coming up with a scenario, but for a game, not to be overly visually complicated, the "factions" should dress their part. They are Arab or Iranian paramilitaries more likely.
  24. Presently, Greeks have no animosity towards the Iranian people but they would oppose any invader from the East or the West. Greeks collaborating with the invaders wouldn't make sense unless they are individuals desperate for survival or groups with their own ideological agendas and as History has shown over and over again, the vast majority of the population, regardless of personal politics, wouldn't tolerate violent foreign presence. Its not just "lefties" who have been opposed to NATO presence or the recent economic foreign take over. In any case, this is not the place for such discussion and others, like myself, watch new posts for relevant new information regarding Arma 3, not pointless inter-personal arguments.
  25. There is nothing Greek about them.
