quick question, can this be used with the Steam version? edit: i just tried it out with the arma2 demo (don't have the retail copy yet). i used the -no splash parameter to test it out. yup, it seems to work. -
i support this 100% :D

"Beginner's guide to ArmA Modding" Project
acadiancrusader replied to a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
thank you all for the initiative on this project. back when arma1 first came out, i made a post asking the community how i could get started. i was basically pointed to a few resources, where the majority of the stuff was OFP-centric. the far majority of the stuff was also presented for those that had some previous knowledge. after blindingly going from tuts to tuts, i gave up. i found that i had spent 75% of my time searching instead of learning. not newb friendly. if i may offer some perspective, use the general website rule: the 3 click rule - which basically states that any person should easily find what they are looking for in three or less clicks. if you guys can take a similar approach to this massive project, i think you will be far more successful. again, i personally thank you all for attempting this... -
Cheeba, BI has done everything that is needed with this 'issue'. they implemented two things for the user... the difficulty and the ability to mod the engine. if there's something you feel is missing with the vanilla game, then perhaps an addon/mod is what you are looking for. learn to mod or find somebody who could build what you are looking for. with so many new players to this franchise, we are seeing more and more people who simply do not know what this game is about... it's not some polished closed ended game, it's a sandbox pseudo-simulator. it's up to the user to be creative and assertive if they want a specific gameplay/look. it's up to the community to create the content. it's BI's job to make the game stable. and they do a pretty damn good job at it. their track record with OFP and ArmA1 patches is proof.

Ideas for Teamwork friendly maps

well, if CoC gets ported over from arma1 to arma2, refined to make it easier to use, then i predict that most of these issues will be resolved. -

i fully support this! -
the whole point of this thread is to state that atari is offering arma on steam, but they are not offering QG or updating the patches on it. that is why atari is killing BI. i'm not talking about boxed retail products on store shelves.

gogamer is out of stock amazon.ca doesn't even carry it (there is no way i'm paying additional fees to have it ordered from the US) the simple fact is that Atari is screwing over it's customers because they don't reply to anything, they don't update their products that they make available on steam, and they don't offer the expansion (which makes no sense as there is no overhead to produce the expansion on steam) King-Six, there is no need to be a jerk. the fact is, when someone buys a product that has a updating service attached to it, you expect that service to function. and as far as manually updating the steam version, doesn't work for everybody. some people even report that steam is re-downloading/re-installing the old version as the new one is not supported. BI, i know technically this is not your problem. but in a sense, it is. the company that you made a deal with is misrepresenting you and your products. they are making you look bad. i hope that you guys are in contact with them on this. it's ridiculous.

i don't use credit cards and sprokets wouldn't accept my paypal. and again, since i bought it on steam, i fully expect that the version that i freekin' paid for would be supported (both patch updates and expansions)
-
just so you know, when i'm talking about steam... it's all atari. atari is responsible for the game on steam. steam works beautifully, but atari is completely ignoring it. they don't even issue ANY statements in their own forums.

zero customer support. securom crap. can't get QG unless you buy the so-called 'gold' edition (still completely unavailable via steam). speaking of steam, 1.14 is STILL not available. wtf?!?! well BI, i hope you learned your lesson. for the sake of your north-american customers, never deal with them again. they publish your product, take a good cut of the profits and do absolutely nothing for the customer. nothing at all. if you are going to sell the game, or any future games in NA, please deal directly with steam. when i was younger, i had no issues with troubleshooting hours upon hours to get my games to function. well, i'm older, and i have far too many responsibilities in my life to do this. when i buy a game, especially when i buy it twice, i expect to have it relatively functional. and when it's not, i expect the solutions to be very simple. and since that is not the case here, i won't be playing. and that makes me very unhappy. heck, i even bought a trackIR just so i could enjoy this game even more. i guess i'll have to do what most grownups do here, play some lazy and mildly entertaining mmo to just to remotely satisfy my pixelated desires.
