No problem here. Make sure you have the latest drivers, make sure the card setting is on game mode - this is very important, finally make sure you install the latest OpenAL driver. Good luck.

Nvidia driver with dual core support lots faster?
awins1 replied to Mr Opteron's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Not sure as I have not used ATI card in a while. I know NVidia has the capability to turn it off or on, or just leave it on Auto. By the way, the 162.15 XP nvidia beta drivers are great so far for my 8800 GTS. -

Recent releases of Nvidia driver's already have dual core support. ATI drivers have this also. -
Vista drivers were pulled, the XP 162.15 are still up at Nvidia.
-
I installed the new beta driver 162.15 last night and played a bit of Arma, GRAW2 demo, and Quakewars beta. All was great, no BSOD's. It felt like Arma was smoother, but I did not spend enough time with it to make a call. Worth a try for sure.

there is no software for monitoring for grafix card ram. At least open the case door while you play to see if it is the airflow, or get a fan to blow on the card.
-
Those artifacts you are getting in one of your sceenshots are likely related to your grafix card memory overheating. The software monitoring the temps only show temps for your chip on the grafix card, not for memory. Make sure your card gets enough ariflow. After playing for over 30mins, your card and case may be getting too hot, resulting in those artifacts. You may want to underclock your card just to test it out to satisfy yourself, at least the memory. Don't go by results while playing another game, each game is different - I'm speaking from personal experience. Edit: ofpforum, you typed faster

So soon? It will be a year since main game release when this expansion hits the street. I prefer expansions, vs new game release. If it is priced as an expansion, it will be worth it.
-
You do not need either one if you are running Vista - these are already built into the OS. If you are running XP, by all means do install these, especially the dual core optimizer.
-
setting it to maxmem=512 solved these crashes for me. Any other numbers did not work for me.
-
I have successfully installed beta patches to Atari's DVD version and to Morphicon's download versions. Have you replaced any original addons with modded ones? This may be the issues you are having.
-
With the latest beta patch, my 8800GTS 640mb works great. I play 1650x1080 resolution, textures on high, objects on very high, AF+shadows very high, shaders on normal, PP on low (can go higher but I don't like it), and AA on low. Looks awesome.
-
Are you running the textures on Normal? Have not tested the new patch, but with previous 1.07, turning textures to High solved that problem for me.
-
Use QTracker, it has buddy list and supports Arma.
-
You can also get Qtracker and your servers to a favorite lists. Qtracker shows who is on, what map is played, and which version of the game is running. The program is very similar to the All Seeing Eye, which unfortunately is not being updated any longer.
-
Hey 4 in 1, if you put shadows on normal, do you still have CTD?
-
Excellent, that did indeed fix the problem. I kept my "very high" texture setting and it still works great. Perhaps a little for all the nvidia/8800 haters is in order. I had to set the textures to at least high, and with HDRPrecision set to 32 and nonlocalvram set to 0, it is working great, no LOD issues at all. I was simply amazed. I have shadows on normal - anything higher than normal, brings back LOD/texture issues. EDIT: Another interesting part: when playing 1.05, nonlocalvram always goes higher than 0, while in 1.07beta, nonlocalvram always stays at 0. Furthermore, when playing 1.07beta, localvram is double the size when playing in 1.05. Also, with shadows at normal, setting HDRprecision at 8, 16, or 32, does not effect the LOD, only the looks. Certainly i prefer 16 or 32 as it looks more realistic than the 8 setting.

If you have a 8800 don't download the V1.07 Beta !

You guys should really read some posts here. Here's what Suma had to say this afternoon in one of the earlier threads: quote Do you own an 8800GTx card for your development machines? Yes, we do own a few of them. Unfortunately I have to say the drivers for them are not very mature and reliable. There seem to be quite serious problems in the area of VRAM allocation on the driver side, which are communicating with nVidia, however I cannot give any estimate when they will be solved. unquote -
I have the same exact issue with 8800GTS 640mb version using 160.03 driver.
-
I'm having strange problems with night vision, ie it does not work in first person, only in third person until I zoom in with a weapon. Also, have LOD bug - first time for me. Alt tab does not work. Changing a few options in video settings crashes/freezes the game. In armory, one of the soldiers was running in 2D. I'm running the German version, no addons, on the following system: amd 4400+ DFI Ultra-D 2gig of ram XFX 8800 GTS 640 mb, driver 160.03 X-FI Fatality Windows XP Home SP2

Have not seen them at stores yet, but amazon USA now has them in stock and the game is available to overnight delivery. Just ordered two copies and should have it tomorrow. Will be sending one copy to a buddy who is stationed in Afghanistan.

It's not a bug, Nvidia 6 and 7 cannot do AA and HDR at same time. However, HL2 amd Arma 8 bit, does this in software for these cards. ATI 1xxx and Nvidia 8800, can both do AA and HDR in hardware mode for Oblivion and should do for Arma in 16 and 32.
-
Is there any benefit of using AA of 5, 6, 7, or 8, vs low, normal, high, very high?? What is the difference?
-
When you enable Entertainment mode, this setting turns off hardware accelaration for the X-Fi. This happens in many games, not only ArmA. For games, you always want it to run in Game Mode.
