  1. The only time I envision a US strike on Iran is when Iran achieves the power to build nuclear weapons. I remember a quote from a movie whose title I can't recall right now but it said: "I don't fear the man that has 10 nuclear weapons, I fear the man that has only one." Let's not forget that Iran is an active sponsor of terrorism and also is fostering unrest in Iraq, combine those factors with nuclear power and the world will be faced with a very scary scenario indeed, because the next strike in NY or Washington DC may not be from simple airliners or even promoted by Al Qaeda... it may very well be soon a memory erased by a giant mushroom cloud of radioactive fire. Sanctions aren't working against Iran, and I doubt they will. Of course, history has hardened Iran against the U.S., they have their reasons to hate America, but they're affecting the whole world with terrorism, even Europe which they consider more friendly. To be frank, the whole world wouldn't give a rat about what's happening in the Middle East if it weren't so dependant on oil, so I sure hope the world changes so that such radicals can be left alone, once and for all. The best thing to happen would be for all armed forces not belonging to anywhere in the Middle East to pull out when the world is no longer dependant on its oil, letting the Shias fight the Sunnis for all they care - if they are determined to destroying each other, who are we to stop them? And Afghanistan could easily be solved - get all the good people out of that barren piece of land whose only green scenery is drug industry, and nuke that place to oblivion, every inch of the country. Surely there are still enough nukes to go around to perform that task. I wonder if even the Taliban will want to be in Afghanistan after that...

  2. Well, if it's a given that graphics are easier to improve than AI, then of course one day we'll reach graphical perfection with totally photoreallistic graphics, and then the only thing left to be improved will be AI... But fully destructible buildings, the ability to use all of the environment in a realistic way (forest fires anyone? never seen it anywhere, would have one heck of an infantry suppressing value, well, I've never played any firefighter game  tounge2.gif ) and the ability to walk around everywhere possible (inside vehicles) would be nice to have and not impossible, in the mean time...

Quote[/b] ]AI shoots only at you, they prefer to try to kill you than, save their life.

Hate to say it, but currently, in some "hot" places, I bet that happens for real...  crazy_o.gif

  3. Well, they couldn't make a "War-Sow Pact II" for obvious reasons so they came up with something new... Well, it kinda makes sense, the world needs a Cold War to counter all the Global Warming! nener.gif

  4. I studied communication science and everywhere in the world news editors must perform something called gatekeeping - choosing what to air and what not to air. They select the news according to what would have the highest interest for its target audience. In this age of globalization, there is definitely more news material around than could be divulged, so that's why it's done...

  5. I've heard about the attack in India both on CNN and the national television newscast...

And Hoot1988, Israel and Gaza have been at war since the inception of the jewish state, with the exceptions of some truce and cease-fire periods... so no news.

P.S.: I'm somehow reminded of the one joke I've read once, about the two main russian newspapers: Pravda (Truth) and Izvestia (I think it means news or novelty or something like that): There is no Pravda in Izvestia and no Izvestia in Pravda! (Meaning, literally, there's no truth in what's new, and the truth is nothing new...). wow_o.gifrofl.gif

  6. Looks great from the pics I've seen - will download this evening to try it out at home. It's good to know that OFP is still not forgotten by those who could still contribute to it! thumbs-up.gif I always thought that Kolguyev wasn't worth visiting in its BIS form because I find it highly depressive, but this Kolguyev I'll definitely try out! biggrin_o.gif And yeah Nogojev was always too much compared to a simply "undamaged" Kolguyev which I bet this will deliver! Thanks for this, marcomio! thumbs-up.gif

  7. Any guese on where the "Flashpoint" might be?

Probably coming from a photographic camera used by one of the Bear's crewmembers?  huh.gif

    J/K

I think that if Russia wanted to get really serious it would start to do something about reintegrating it's neighbour states in eastern Europe to something more "submissive" to the power of the russian army... Especially with the ABM shield being planned to be deployed in eastern Europe... *gulp* I still wonder if that's a wise decision to plant that there... IMHO maybe it would have been wiser to deploy that shield in one of the former Yugoslavia countries... Putin might not have felt that threatened that way, perhaps...

  8. Would be friggin' awesome if it were true...

The only bigfoots I've seen so far in OFP were the CAF Unimog Monster Truck, Didro's Lada Niva Monster Trucks and CAF Iltis Monster Truck... tounge2.gif

  9. With regards to spyplanes, the age of the airframe bears no relation to the surveillance equipment housed inside.

Russia has always appreciated the value of sizeable aircraft as representantion of their own greatness (Maxim Gorki anyone) so I think it's a valid point that the Bear is only used for its show-off value in times of peace... Now that it's utterly obsolete considering its technology (except for the bomber role perhaps - but I don't think the US uses the B-52 for recon/intel missions anymore... ) .

  10. I wonder if people who do have the G15 spend more time at looking at their keyboard and if it isn't distracting from looking at the screen... I mean, I use the MERC keyboard, which is more of a keyboard than it's Zboard predecessor, and I use keyboards for my fingers to type and press keys, whilst always staring at the monitor, not at the keyboard... After all, you might get shot whilst looking away from your monitor... was just curious, that's all...

  11. Here's a crazy idea, but one that just might work: why don't we all, as a species, just treat each other with respect and drop all this petty confrontational crap? I don't know about everyone else, but I'd much rather that all our countries were civil and courteous towards each other than spend the next twenty-odd years living under the constant threat of nuclear annihilation over some stupid dispute that could be settled with mere words.

We all bleed the same colour, no matter where we're from or what we believe. Isn't it time we remembered that instead of letting politicians drag us into pointless conflicts with each other?

Amen to that! Unfortunately, reality differs from such simple ideas to an extent that makes it sound utopian... confused_o.gif

  12. @ trevor
Quote[/b] ]Russia paid in human casulties true enough, but without the US industrial might, and UK and Polish inteligence the war could not have been won

If the Polish would have Granted the Russians an Coridor (Land/Air) to now Czech rep/Slovak Rep.  to help Fight the Germans my Grand father wouldent have had to retreat from Cesky tesin, As the Czech's & Russians had a mutual Defence pact, which could have stunted the Germans Advance towords the Oil in the Balkans/Middle east, & cut the War Short, although im aware there were more factors involved this, could have shortend it.

Thats pretty easy to say, but remember until recently Poland had been part of the Russian Empire.  Theres no way in hell Poland would have accepted that sort of deal.  A wise choice anyway concidering Russia invaded Poland alongside Germany in 1939.  Russia concidered Poland there own territory, that would be like czechslovakia opening its doors freely to Nazi Germany.  Its a what if scenario which realisticly wasnt an option, and i think any pole then and now would agree.

Don't forget that part of Checoslovakia was already part of Germany, even before 1939, namely the "Sudetenland", so it's not that Germany didn't have any presence in Checoslovakia back then...

But discussing WWII is off-topic, we should rather be discussing what could lead to WWIII, since the divergence on the "ABM-Shield" policies between the US and Russia, as well as the tensions due to the Litvinienko assassination between Russia and the UK, are really chilling the temperature... I guess it's back to the Cold War, as it's now what? 20 years since Gorby toyed around with the ideas of Glasnost? I guess history is really in a hurry to repeat itself... icon_rolleyes.gif

  13. I hope it comes out with QG, and I don't care who makes the thick manual, as long as it's good to serve it's purpouse (the OFP's Game Guide booklet which came with it's Gold Edition wasn't made by BIS either, it was made by Prima, which specializes in making game guides. ) In this case though, it would have to be someone extremely well versed in ArmA game mechanics etc that should make "the bible", IMHO...

  14. What I seriously wonder is why F-15s are issued CAS missions... I thought they were strike planes only... CAS should be left to planes slow enough to be able to take a good look at the battlefield they're being ordered into... I think the european air forces need something like the A-10 so as not to rely too much on american air power in terms of CAS missions... Hmm, how about importing the Su-39? tounge2.gif
