  1. Well, I must admit, having played BF1942 and mods, and having played RTCW:ET, I must say I very much like ETQW's game play, although I fear it may be a bit unbalanced (then again it might reflect realistically on how the humans lost so much against the Strogg, their infantry weapons are really good). Sure, the whole game is unrealistic, but damn, it's fun! And unlike the BF-series, in the Enemy Territory you build up your rank, and gain extra abilities, during the course of a few maps, and when it restarts, your counter goes back to zero, but how well you progress depends entirely on your commitment at the time, so it's not like you'll get pwned by some vet players who don't have anything better to do in their lives... I must say, from all the recent fun battlefield-type games, ETQW takes the crown! thumbs-up.gif

  2. Well, thanx anyways whisper thumbs-up.gif , just be sure to drop a line here when/if it happens! thumbs-up.gif

Oh and chris330, I think that the biggest problem of Planetside would rather be its age... most of the bugs had been weeded out by the time the Reserves program got under way, I guess... but since I don't play as much as whisper, he'll probably be able to inform you better about it. smile_o.gif

  3. Quote[/b] ]won't kill fish compared to wind turbines which kill birds

you forget if you use thise water style snake generators it might kill the whales..  [omg]http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9gnMikQVuhGFhAANDOjzbkF/SIG=11sn15o4c/EXP=1189717904/**http%3A//www.anon.org/images/deadWhale.jpg[/omg]

this one died on the job thinking one of your ECO wave power generators was a female ...he got it stuck.. ..  confused_o.gif  you people only think of CRUEL things to make power BAD people  mad_o.gif

Since this type of power-plant is still undergoing development, I'm sure by the time it will be widespread the final model will take this... accident into account and be built as so it won't happen again...

  4. The problem with nuclear again is that nuclear fuel isn't cheap, it's a fuel that's not renewable AFAIK...

But I'd also prefer any water-kinetics-driven powerplant over any wind turbine, because it most probably won't kill fish compared to wind turbines which kill birds... Plus any such water plant would be out of sight, so as to not ruin the countryside view... wink_o.gif

  5. I've heard somebody wants to put such turbines in the North Sea... How stupid can that be? It takes just one of those mega-waves and the turbines are history... not to speak of how much bird life is claimed by the monster props... No, definitely Solar panels are better, and something else you forgot to add, although it's still not perfect yet, tidal-force harnessing... That is going to be great!

P.S.: I'm from an urban setting...

  6. Heatseeker, this is a sequel to Far Cry, whose story was, well, nothing that would be unexpected I guess, and there is only so much one can do to make an FPS interesting... I liked Far Cry, and of course it was no System Shock 2, so it wouldn't be fair to expect Far Cry 2 to be more "interesting" than perhaps Bioshock... I think Crysis and Stalker are the ones Far Cry 2 will have to measure up against...

  7. Wow, nice video! Though I must say I'd rather be an advocate for the health or medipacks instead of the self-operation methods, since being shot repeatedly in the same place but going on afterwards with full ability really seems weird to me... Better make it the generic health pack or medipack... But the forest fires, finally something like that arrives in a game!!! And, as it seems, russian weaponry seems to be favoured over the "western" weaponry present in the first Far Cry...

  8. lol.. guess the video did'nt help me at all  whistle.gif

Please do take note that this forum has a search button as well! wink_o.gif

And, I must say, they couldn't have chosen a better game forum to put "little billy" posting... rofl.gif

  9. Taking into account how secretive the US were about the F-117 and the time it took until it was officially announced as existing, if I were the US and had a super plane that could go anywhere so fast that nobody could catch it (I wonder if there are missiles that could catch up with it? huh.gif ) , then I'd also keep it under wraps until I'd have it's successor in store before starting to sing about it to the public...

And Wmdaniel, we're talking about the US here, yeah, those with the army that were willing to endorse the movie "Independence Day" all the way if only the name of Area 51 would be changed to something else... Because, still today, the US say Area 51 does not exist, although satellite photos have already revealed its existance to the world... so... nope, you won't fool me!! tounge2.gif

    THEY ARE OUT THERE!!!

  10. By real hardware damage was kind of like maybe puncturing the hull of a tank. Tanks didn't always have firing computers etc, and in the event of EMP and HERF attacks going everywhere, maybe, just maybe, there will be manual backups for much of what is done electronically (except for communications of course) so a tank would still be able to function perhaps after there being an EMP or HERF strike, but a hit from a particle gun could well be even more devastating than any AT weapon currently fielded...

  11. Baff1, I can give you 2 examples that would oppose your theories:

    1. Lack of compliance with promises made by the US to Afghanistan, promises of helping to rebuild the country, have resulted in 9/11. The US took the easy way out and lied to the Afghans, pretty much like the brits lied to the Arabs about their independance after they defeated the turks in WWI, with the small difference that the Afghans, through Al-Qaeda, decided to show the world how pissed they were about that.

    2. Former US-backed Cuban dictator Batista's gunboat policy ended with him fleeing on the heel of a socialist revolution still in place today, and by the looks of it, today it's Cuba - tomorrow, maybe all of South America, if Hugo Chavez can propagate it...

So as you can see, it's not all black and white when it comes to rebuilding vs gunboat policy. Taking a good look, gunboat policy seems to have worked well in the 20th century, but that's history. Gunboat policy seems to be obsolescent in the 21st century.

  12. I agree mostly with you, sickboy, but I must say I'm still bewildered as to how BIS managed to break things that worked perfectly well before, as Commander-598 already stated. I wonder what kind of plane-flying xnodunitx does, because if I try to pull the stunts in ArmA which were a delight to pull of in OFP, then mostly I'm left either stalling or smacking into the ground because my trailing camera view slewed to a sight to front to back instead of back to front... And that is just plain crap, since I managed to pull off such stunts in OFP be it in a Valkyrie or in a Cessna. As for the helicopters, they were perfect in OFP as well for what they were, in ArmA they'd still be somehow flyable (albeit with the rudder issue) - but the plane model needs to get back to OFP, which albeit not perfect was as well perfect for what it was...

  13. Neither H.E.R.F. nor EMP is new - actually, supposedly nukes create EMP shockwaves when they detonate... EMP is only coming into relevance now because the whole world is getting more digital, including the military, which is more and more vulnerable to such strikes. Wasn't there a thread about H.E.R.F. being tested on top of a Humvee and/or M113 as a large crowd-control device? It could serve as a measure to fry biological and electronic opponents, but not deal real hardware damage) ... As for lasers, they're nothing but photonic energy (meaning a cooled mirror could serve as armor), whereas plasma comes with some punch-through technology, if particle projection beams can be developed, since it then carries mass, at extreme velocities...

  14. at least one of the neighbours leeching on my bandwidth  crazy_o.gif

THAT's the reason why I don't trust wireless except for my cell phone... I recently had to acquire a new ADSL router and I specifically chose one without any wireless capability, wether I'd use it or not... there's nothing like hard wire, you know what's going on, what's connected, what isn't, and it is also faster! thumbs-up.gif

Sucks though if that isn't an option, although I must say I have ADSL2+ via POTS, so it's just an ISP thing, and of course the closeness to the nearest area hub...

  15. Well, I've seen someone use a paintball minigun in a video, of course it didn't have anywhere near the ROF of what could be expected from the XM214 or the M134, so at least for those paintball matches and mods it would be realistic to have a paintball minigun... Or, have a minigun with a low ROF, which would make the recoil bearable, admittedly spoiling perhaps every advantage of using a minigun (instead of conventional portable MGs) except for its style (barrel life/overheat isn't simulated anyway), though...  thumbs-up.gif

  16. wouldn't it be easier if russia just joined nato just for the fun of it?  biggrin_o.gif  hell they could just leave if they want too... but i guess old generals in russia and us would go crazy of that thought  rofl.gif

I thought Russia joined NATO a few years back? Or was I misinformed?

Only in the book "The Bear and the Dragon" by Tom Clancy AFAIK... wow_o.gif

As for the Aurora plane having to slow down to drop any payload, I wonder why it would have to do that? I mean, it's not as if bombs are all conventional, they have guidance and all... Heck, Aurora could even launch missiles at speed, they'd find their targets, with GPS and all...

As for technology, all countries want better stuff, because as time goes by their inventory gets obsolete, and the cutting edge is always pushing forwards...

As for the notion of a satelite weapon, I don't know, but wasn't there any agreement that stated that no weapons should be deployed to space? At least aimed at Earth... And energy weapon technology doesn't seem capable of issuing ion cannons etc... I think the next big thing will be railguns, deployed on warships, which kind of would give reason to invest in nuclear-powered vessels, since railguns take up massive amounts of energy I think... Lasers so far are only good for intercepting missiles by heating them up to the point of either disconcertion of their guidance systems or explosion of their payload... and still require a relatively large amount of energy for what they do... After railguns I think the next effective thing will be plasma weaponry, if that ever comes into existence, what do you think?

  17. Quote[/b] ]I remember a quote from a movie whose title I can't recall right now but it said: "I don't fear the man that has 10 nuclear weapons, I fear the man that has only one."

damit thats one of my favorite movies but i dont know which one it is! Sum Of All Fears maybe?

The movie is "The Peacemaker", and IIRC the line is said by Nicole Kidman...

As for what you state about Iran, I sure hope you're right... Although with all the "wipe Israel off the map" talk by Ahmadinejad, I wonder how friendly he can get towards the west... confused_o.gif
