UPDATED 042610: I would like to set a secondary monitor to be full time map. Using the GPS works for most events but driving a tank and coordinating with friends and AI is inefficient with it or switching the map on to give directions. This feature could be configured per server. The map could follow you as it is in the GPS, or not follow you unless in a vehicle such as a plane or tank. It should be assignable to be either a fully dynamic map with squad/vehicle positions or have limited info to the point of not showing yourself. A key would be assigned (most likely the M key) that when pressed would allow you access to that screen and the controls for zoom and panning with a cursor. Placing the AI controls on the secondary screen would also clear up some screen real estate for the main monitor. A new idea is the use of a Wacom touch tablet screen to move, draw on the map (similar to football replays) for your squad to see and touch screen AI controls. Perhaps a server client module that could display the map on a laptop or tablet could be used. Arguments have been made that you would be at an advantage looking at your map this way. I think taking your eyes off your main screen to look over a map is more realistic then completely removing your view of the world and replacing it with a map.

You can say the same thing concerning GPS always on screen while running, shooting and going prone. I just want it off the main screen and onto a secondary. Besides you will have to LOOK at that screen to gather any info/do planning and in the current system, the one implemented NOW you have to completely cover your face and can't see anything happening in the real world. Like that tank cresting the hill which you would see in your peripheral in real life.

[WIP] ArmaSideMap - External Moving Map for Arma2:OA
ZeosPantera replied to gammadust's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Thank you THANK YOU for this. I started a post.. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?90140-Secondary-Monitor-as-Map A LONG time ago that fired up an 11 page morality discussion. I think it will be an interesting read for you. I hope you can get this addon in a more universal state. I would be willing to cut up the photo's of the Chenarus map if you like. -
I recently did the helicopter training again in a2.. I selected troop transport.. The AI trainer runs the completely opposite direction away from the helicopter for 20 feet then around another helicopter for 100+ feet and then gets in.. He could have side-stepped me and walked 6 feet. AI FAIL!

Seems there is a miss-communication here. ANIMATING a tree exploding wouldn't be that taxing. The VR engine has hardly anything actually physics related. The Vehicle "physics" show that off.

This is in Arma1 and 2 but its so shi++y you may not have noticed. Using my steering wheel with vehicles in ArmA is the biggest joke.

I'd like to see the ability to control AI commands with the mouse cursor. Firstly make sure they are all on one screen then just press a modifier and select the AI Icons or the AI themselves like desktop icons.. 1, 4, 8,9,12 .. Right click "advance to" then click on the map. Plus with mouse-ability you can re-order the icons to better suit your needs/strategy.

Normally i'd Say yes, but what would the indicators look like....

Uphill/Downhill - wrong aspect ratio in A3 also.
ZeosPantera replied to dkd's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
No Distortion. There would be some distortion if I went triplehead but just barely. They would need to render three separate "cameras" with different angles from the players head position all rendering separately to completely eliminate it. -

I presume this is the image your talking about? http://www.arma3.com/screenshots/scr01.jpg I see no distortion. And I usually scream about FOV distortion. -
It's all about optimization. Servers get the brunt of the AI and when they fail they fail hard. BTW, The island is 22 Miles by 18 miles. That's 1025 Sq\Km if you don't exclude the water. That is a BIG map.

It was a nice (and unrealistic) trait that all the enemy liked to leap out of their protected pillboxes after death. If you want realism have it not report that solders death with a cash prize and have him basically just lay there.. Only being removed if you take over said position.

-Satellite Imagery as an intelligence upgrade. Make it costly and slow and make it do a 3x3mile area as of when you asked for it minutes earlier. Full thermal for spotting RUNNING or recently running vehicles. Give the commander a reason to not be out in the field.
-
Basically. All parts need improvement and need to be worked on forever until it is as real as real. That is what I love about simulators, Games can only be judged as games but a simulator ALWAYS has room for improvement. What we are discussing is the order of those upgrades.

Get rid of the Yellow Tinge to the world.
ZeosPantera replied to pokletu's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Nope, It was a fullscreen demo filming in a house looking out. And it was just pretty much on and off. -
It was very annoying having vehicles start everytime an AI twisted the turret. I could only see that being the case on Hydraulic turrets.

There was a video on youtube I found a few months ago showing off an addon that removed the color filter from OA with the push of a button.. It was a tremendous difference. Skies turned blue and the crazy drama bloom was removed. I can't find it again. My take on this whole situation is as follows. ArmA tries to be branded a simulator and not a game. A game can add crazy explosion effects and color filters to enhance "atmosphere". A true simulator has the responsibility of providing as REALISTIC an experience as possible. Color filters to generate atmosphere are not realistic, remove them completely. -
I actually like this idea but how would something identify itself as a position where a lock can occur. I imagine it would be similar to proper bi-pod use. So a shelf might be needed not just a hole. Firing from those castle turrets was never efficient.

watch out Lao Fei Mao.. that image is over 100K.. the bandwidth gods will smite you. Even though it isn't hosted on this site and everyone here has high speed internet and computers powerful enough to run arma. also that is a great shot. Loosing all sense of what is going on around you when sniping is a big disadvantage. Nobody jams their eye into a scope. And triplehead users get messed up most of all when the far screens turn black... at least I think they do.

That's bad LOD management..

Arma has always been lacking in the ability to change where Hud elements appear and how you interact with them. I'd like to see AI controls completely customizable or at least scriptable so modders can provide the attention needed. This for example I made to showcase how I would like to see AI vehicles / platoons controlled via a stacked color coded system. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/F12Bwth2/Forums/AILayoutColors-1.jpg Running 22 AI scrolling across two screens you need to switch between with no way to re-order is hell on earth. Also the ability to adjust the size of the on-screen elements when using a low FOV. The compass for example is unusable at low numbers. If running a triplehead being able to dock all AI controls to one monitor and vehicle stats/ map/ gps and ammunition specs to the other would be preferable as that would leave the center monitor devoid of any distractions. I'd also like to be able to mouse-click on the AI controls. That would open it up to allow a touchscreen control of AI. Even a 7" touchscreen.

Sorry the main picture got removed. VVV You have received an infraction at Bohemia Interactive Forums. Reason: Posted image > 100kb ------- §15) Do not hotlink images over 100kb (102400 bytes) in size Do not link images over 100kb using the IMG tags to display an image in your post. If you wish to post an image larger then 100 kb feel free to post the URL instead of hotlinking. ------- This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire I may never understand why this rule is in effect in the year 2011. Want to add the possibility to output info to smart phones or netbooks. Things such as location, direction, chat. Ideally having no hud elements at all on the gaming machine.

How about a full time map on a secondary monitor (or 4th monitor if using triplehead). Since A3 is set in the "future" a heads up display with map position overlay now becomes realistic. Along with that the complete customizability of hud elements and locations. So if I run triplehead I can keep all my AI related stuff on the far left and personal hud ammo health etc on the right leaving my main screen without distraction. Sniper rifle scope should be 3D and not take over the entire view not even on a single display. On triplehead the side monitors should be left unaffected when transitioning into scope view. TOUCH SCREEN SUPPORT... So I can order my AI without fondling my F keys. Talk about a futuristic interface. Like ordering up from an ATM of death!

You come here with me.. LINK I'll see you in the forums. As for ArmA3. The only thing I can see it doing to earn that additional number and cost to us is improved AI that makes the game playable. Current AI is a joke and will remain so throughout the series unless something drastic is done. And why is everything so damn faded and depressing. The colors don't run out of the world when we go to war you know.
