  1. After this post it's pretty obvious it's a fault of his own, as he's trying to just install the 1.08 Arma 2 patch on his copy of Arma 2: Combined Operations. Instead, use the 1.57 patch which includes the 1.08 patch for Arma 2.

    ARMA 2, version 1.08 - Patch Released.

1.57 includes this patch... If you had read, this patch is for people who only have Arma 2, not Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead nor Arma 2: Combined Operations.
  3. There's got to be a good reason that it hasn't been fixed/disabled yet. After all, it's not like you guys don't point it out ENOUGH. :p
  4. I see the all-healing magic first aid kit is still there, unanimated.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3

And not a single fuck was given. ;) I miss the Call of Duty franchise. Edit: Well, it's apparently a hoax. Oh well.
  6. There's also this bug that arises because of the changes to the animation speeds: hgeuv0jfLKM
  7. I've tired it ingame, been playing with it for over a day now, and I can say I still don't like it. Far too unnaturally fast-looking, completely breaks immersion for me in that regard. I mean, try the fast walking-forward-with-a-rifle animation (rather than double-tapping Shift, just go into your ironsights). It just looks ridiculous in this state. I'm of the opinion that if the transitions are to be made faster then new animations should be created for them to look natural, as don't forget this game has a 1st and 3rd-person view. I am aware, however, of the rather unnecessary workload that would be, but in that case I'd prefer the animations play at the speed they were recorded/created for. I don't find it helps gameplay that much, either...

are there any new DLC's on the horizent?

If more DLC is on the way, you will hear about it here. Asking about it won't speed it up.
  9. Steam has made no impact on stopping piracy, nor cheaters. Take a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for a prime example.
  10. Basically it just reinforces that everything Codemasters touch turns to shit. :p
  11. Say what? What's wrong with this thread? You can still keep the Bikileaks idea, of course, but does it really need its own thread?
  12. I personally would only say yes if the games on Steam worked identical to those you can purchase hard copies of or off of Sprocket. At the moment there seem to be too many workarounds for my liking, especially in terms of running Combined Operations via Steam, but if those were fixed I would not have an issue with it.
  13. Yeah, the first 5 times you play them. I'm certain they will lack enough randomness to make playing them over and over as enjoyable as they are in L4D, and I'm positive the support for the game will be dropped so quickly after release, just like its predecessor, that you won't get any new ones. No design decisions or announcements outside of their words, and we all know what value those have after DR, have indicated they have changed their ways. Besides, the attitude towards the game anywhere but their forum seems utterly and overwhelmingly negative.
  14. BIS are better than Codemasters at making storylines and believable characters, it seems. I'm just waiting for a guy in a white suit and an African American woman to appear as the other two characters. Besides, game still lacks a mission editor and won't have mod tools. There's no reason a non-Battlefield/HALO/Call of Duty game like that to be around for longer than a couple months these days.

    FPS opinion

Anything above 15 FPS is playable for me. Anything above 20 FPS is... "Preferred". I generally get between 20 and 60 FPS in Arma 2.

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

I'd say in most ways JCOVE is less advanced than Arma 2. After all, it's a heavily stripped down version of VBS2 containing only rather low-quality modeled British hardware, and keep in mind that VBS2 runs off of a heavily modified Armed Assault engine, RealVirtuality 2, and Arma 2 runs off RealVirtuality 3. I had no reason to play JCOVE over Arma 2. Same with VBS2 US Army Lite, which you can see a video I made playing it here: 9MBQg-7z-04 And as Sickboy correctly states, VBS2 is often very much over-hyped by people here. People have told me that once you try it you realize that it's definitely not a product intended for the same demographic as those who play Arma 2.

    Please BIS please

Look up the VBS2 Personal Edition. Not exactly inexpensive, but not as expensive as the VTK, for example. You may also want to check out JCOVE, or see if you can get your hands on VBS2 US Army Lite, as both of those are free but severely limited in content. Anyway, there is a one and only VBS2 thread for a very specific reason. Please use it instead. Thread locked.

Your top 5 non-BIS games of all time

I've only really started properly playing games since 2001-ish. OFP was literally my first PC game. And in all honesty, since 2001, the 5 non-BIS games I listed have been the ones that have had the biggest impact on me, and I don't think it's possible to say that any of them weren't special in some way. Half-Life 2 was special because of many factors, namely how cinematic it was and its impressive physics engine for the time. Mass Effect 2 is special because of how it has essentially mastered the technique of story-telling in a video game (in my opinion). Batman: Arkham Asylum is special because it's the only good Batman game since the SNES one, and it's actually very good at that. Spider-Man 2 was special because it, along with GTA 3, introduced the world to a 3D open-ended "playground" environment, and mastered the way to control a character such as Spider-Man in such an environment. Finally, I think Call of Duty 4 was special because of both its storyline (albeit short) and, of course, its multiplayer which I still play to this day. It's a shame what's happened to the brand since it, though.

Libyan Air-force ordered to bomb protesters

Certainly enough to start a fight, but it's most likely they would immediately lose everything and would easily be replaced. It's different from the situation in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain and Libya in the sense that the nationals themselves have very little reason to protest, and the people who may, generally the huge numbers of Asian laborers, have families back in their home countries or there that they're working to support, even if just barely, and they'll do anything to keep their jobs. Search around for articles on the sponsorship laws of Saudi, the living conditions of the nationals vs the expats, the way western expats are separated from the rest, and the comparisons between the working conditions of laborers in Saudi and those in their home countries.

Libyan Air-force ordered to bomb protesters

For most of them, their lives in Saudi are undoubtedly better than they would be back in their home countries. That may not actually be too hard to accomplish but, again, because of it, they have no reason to rebel. However, there are so many of them in the world, and all the employers of those currently there reserve the right to terminate their employment at a moment's notice, that if thousands rebelled it would be a matter of giving the go-ahead to hire 10,000 more and deporting those now without jobs. For every one that comes to the country there are 100 who want to do the same.

Libyan Air-force ordered to bomb protesters

I live in Qatar, and I can safely say that there have not been any reported protests relating to those in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, etc. in Saudi Arabia. The nationals of Saudi are mostly all well-off due to the country's massive wealth, and have no need to rebel. See this map for reasons I would be aware of this:
  22. Beta patches so far do not make changes to issues pertaining to models, which includes the LODs, in order to keep the filesize low and convenient. It's likely you'll have to wait for a final patch, perhaps even 1.58, perhaps not, for that issue to have a chance of being fixed.

  24. One post restriction has already been handed out to one lucky forum member. Please don't make me issue another. Oh, and the update looks kickass, PacUK. ;)
