While I think it was stupid for IWNet to make such large claims that no developer in history has been able to accomplish, I think it's a bit unfair in this situation. As this, quite simply, is the "extreme" situation. They have probably some of the best "hackers" messing with the game due to it's restrictions, as well as its massive popularity. They try to ruin the game for the masses. And this game certainly has the masses playing it. However, I think we'll have to stop talking about the hacking going on with MW2, as it's forbidden in the forum rules. So, next subject?

I can't see that post. I keep getting a "Framework Error" every time I try to view it.

Please tell me you've actually tried the game? Every game I've ever played I'm happy to get 100ms due to my location. I get much more than that almost all the time. Including in ArmA II. However, MW2 has absolutely fantastic net code, and I experience no lag so long as my "bars" remain at 3 or above (between 120 and 150ms), which the matchmaking system puts me on servers with such pings 90% of the time. Even if it drops below that, it's not terrible. Just because you're getting 100ms doesn't mean it's completely unplayable for you. That's almost using it as an excuse for sucking at the game...

Arma II is going on the shelf...
Zipper5 replied to IrishDeviant's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah well, given his lack of observation we're now going to get asked about if the beta mod overrides his installation, or how he enables it, or something. Personally I've given up trying to help such people anymore. It's just... Laziness, to not be able to see that there has quite clearly been many patches since 1.04. Or perhaps it's this common apprehension against things with the words "beta", which is ridiculous in the case of BIS' beta system. -
I think that people should stop saying "you can't compare MW2 to DR. They're two different games." No, they are not. DR is extremely archaic for a supposed "mil-sim", and all of it's design decisions are very similar to arcade games like MW2. The only difference I can see is a slightly less linear level design and more "realistic" (and I use that term lightly) damage. Even then, the damage calculations are still ridiculous for a "mil-sim". So yes, you have every right to compare MW2 to DR in my opinion. And in that regards, MW2 blows DR out of the water. That's kind of been proven already since the release of MW2 causing the death of DR, anyways.

That leads me to believe it's not related to that, but something else. Perhaps something more related to the Russians.

They may have pissed off a lot of people, but that number pales in comparison to the total number of customers that IW got for MW2. Heck, even those who were pissed off ended up buying the game anyways. It's hardly carnage. The response to "that other game" was carnage. This is mild.

BIS - ArmA 2 Propaganda - Apparel - T-Shirts?
Zipper5 replied to pchaxor's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
InfinityWard in an interview said that the game (MW2) is not balanced for lean. Of course, that's a ridiculous statement, and one of the ways people have made fun of it is saying that ArmA II is balanced for lean, as it has the leaning ability in it. That's where it comes from. -
Offline mode. I'm surprised people are complaining about not being to access their games without the internet. Steam does have an offline mode. I've had to use it many times due to my crappy ISP. I guess people either close it if it takes too long or don't bother trying it when they have no internet. It is there... Edit: Scratch that. I had my suspicions towards it still being there, so I tried to force it into offline mode and it seems they've changed it so that you can't log in at all. Well... That's stupid. I can understand your frustration in that aspect, then. Making it completely reliant on the internet is kinda dumb. It worked so well without such a change...

Why are you hesitant about buying ArmA II then because of it's bugs? From what I played of DR, it was far buggier, boring and flawed than ArmA II ever was. By flawed I mean it's game mechanics are so badly done that it's laughable, such as having to reload your M203 every time you switch types, and having to go through them in order to get to normal firing mode instead of simply cycling to it. Those are bad design decisions. Plus, the SP was far more far fetched and boring than ArmA II's. Again, this is just my opinion. However, I do feel sorry that you bought it. Especially to then have yourself treated by CM as you have. Making the game slightly more playable, and then getting shut out completely by such a terrible developer. That really sucks. They may be trying to talk to you about it, but I doubt you'll ever see results. Given the direction the game is heading, I think they're going to cut their losses soon.

Despite this, Valve and Steam are basically keeping the PC gaming industry alive singlehandedly.

Lol, a discussion completely in spoiler tags. :D

Why are public games in ArmA II so terrible?
Zipper5 replied to Chunk3ym4n's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Well, another issue is the unfair advantage some mods give to players. Also, some hacks for ArmA were addon-based, so you could block them by disallowing all mods. Not many cheaters left in ArmA II, thankfully. They were all over ruining that "other game". :D -

Wow. Well, if you can't take a bit of criticism (and trust me, this is only a bit in comparison to what others have received), then fine. I've put lots of hours into a project, be it for ArmA II or anything in real life, only to have people not like it or to have it never see the light of day. If you can't deal with that, then don't bother with it. Which seems to be the course of action you are taking. And hey, I wasn't trying to personally insult you. Far from it. In fact, I doubt anyone was trying to insult you, or was directing their issues towards you. You've seemed to taken it that way, which is unfortunate. The issue lies in the server administration(s), and not your mission. But if you're so blinded with rage on someone criticizing your work, then fine. I find sometimes that people are "hurt" way too easily here, occasionally being those who create awesome content for the game and keep it alive. Well, with that over, shall we continue with the discussion? -
12/11 - 2nd Patch/Title Update in Development Yeah, right. I highly doubt it's going to fix anything worthwhile. I also think that by the time it's released no one will be playing the game. And to be honest, CM have had nothing but broken promises in the course of this game's life, and I'm not taking this to be any different. Especially after this quote:  Why won't this game die already? I think DR is CM's lifeline at the moment if their economic status is as bad as it is. Perhaps the only way they can even hope to keep afloat is by fixing DR. Well, I couldn't care less. I actually hope CM go out of business.

You've got to accept that your mission does not in any way, shape, or form encourage teamwork. Therefore, many servers playing it have zero teamwork at all, and are just running around doing what they want. And I'm not saying your mission is bad! Far from it. It's incredibly well made and well scripted. I'm very impressed looking at it in a de-pbo'd form. In fact, I've learned a lot of things from it. Plus, it's perfect for those who simply want simple fun and rewards for doing so. However, due to the popularity of Domination, and other maps like Evolution, teamwork is almost a no-show on the MP side of things unless in a group/clan. We are not blaming you at all. We're also not entirely putting the blame on Domination. It's more on the community's decisions to host such missions constantly instead of more variety that the blame rests. Please point out somewhere that someone was immaturely posting in this thread. I have yet to see such a post. It has been quite the impressive feat that this hasn't turned into a flame war. A rarity in the community as of late. -
I'd say that's probably just because he sucks at games in general. Well, many things are different. For starters, only a few of the weapons in COD4 are in MW2. Many, many new ones. You also have many more challenges, attachments and camo schemes for weapons. There are many new perks and some of the old ones are moved around. The more stupid ones, like Martyrdom, now fall under Deathstreaks which you only get access to if you die more than 3 times in a row. There is also now the ability to create a callsign for yourself out of images and emblems which you unlock, which players see when you kill them or they kill you, as well as other events. The MP scoring is different too. Not only do you get points for killing people, but you get more points for the circumstances of you killing him. You get more for headshots, more for knife kills, more for long distance shots, more for throwing knife kills, the list goes on. There are many different killstreaks now too, which you get the ability to unlock as you progress. Some are from COD4, many are new. So really, all that changed on the SP side of things was graphics and the SP portion itself. After all, why fix what isn't broken. Of course you also have the Special Ops mode, but I don't need to say any more to prove how awesome that is to play, especially in 2 player co-op. Oh, and the AI is improved and isn't infinitely respawning as it was in COD4. Most of the improvements are on the MP side of things, and rightly so. They've made their awesome MP even better. It's tons of fun to play, especially with friends. The SP side didn't really need any fixing or improvement as it was pretty much what you needed in COD4. I'm sure I missed something out, but those are what I can recall right now that's been changed or improved from COD4 to MW2.

Ironically, this was quite the mature discussion until the maker of Domination came to flamebait. -
Wow, talk about a great contributor to society. Getting so worked up over a game. What a goddamn moron.
-
Video descriptions are your friend: It's the JTD FireAndSmoke addon that you want. He's not using any other addons that affect the effects of the game (smoke, in your case).
-
He's already found it, my friend. ;)
-
Was there really any doubt? I mean seriously. It's the COD franchise. COD4 and WaW sold like wildfire, so why would MW2 be any different? Apparently it's raised $310 million in the UK and US alone. GTA IV, it's nearest competitor, sold that much world wide. Activision and IW are quite happy right now, I'd imagine.
-
Crap. Can't believe I missed that. I just copied the first one and added the \beta\ part, forgetting the mod folder. Thanks CarlGustaffa. :D
-
Yes, but he said installed. You can install any mods at any time you want. However, what you're all talking about is the order that you execute them in the target line. If you want one specific mod to override another, you put it before it in the target line. He was wondering if he had to install them in a specific order.
-
You don't need to install them in any particular order. They'll work no matter what order you installed them in. To get them running when you use ArmA II, you must go to your ArmA II shortcut and find the Target line, which should say something like: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" Or this if you're using the beta patch: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" And now you'll want to change it to the following. Remember - the folders following the -mod command must be written the same as the ones you have installed: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -mod=mod1;mod2;mod3;mod4;mod5 Or: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -mod=mod1;mod2;mod3;mod4;mod5 Snake_Man made a very nice tutorial on his website to help people such as yourself with such issues.
