    CWA 1.99 Bug reports

These two bugs are not in OFP: James isn't sitting in his chair right Blake is supposed to stop saluting before starting his speech
  2. Why do people play on higher difficulty? Because they choose to. It's their server. Calm down, please.
  3. That's because you're probably putting <2001>, rather than just 2001, due to Demonized's formatting. Anyways, Celery's solution takes the least code and works the best.

    Arma: Cold War Assault

Man, to think I've practically grown up with BIS' games. :D Happy 10th, OFP! And congrats to BIS!

  7. Congrats, guys! Well deserved. I'm quite looking forward to Carrier Command after E3. :)

    ArmA 2 for the PS3 & 360?

    Exactly.
  9. Sorry, but I read that as "give up everything that makes ARMA unique and it will be popular." Or was there some other, philosophical/metaphorical meaning behind that? I thought it was pretty clear.
  10. It's a unique style we love that we don't want to give up for the sake of popularity.
  11. That's not ARMA 2. Why are so many people of the opinion that ACE + ACRE are vanilla ARMA 2 features? You are saying ARMA 2 is difficult to set up when in actual fact it's specific mods you are having trouble with, thus giving a false impression of the game which, sadly, seems to have caught on like wildfire.
  12. You have a bad PC or can't use one if it takes you 20 hours to get ARMA 2 running in MP.
  13. In my view, BIS aren't in competition with Call of Duty nor Battlefield, nor should they be. ARMA 2 is the king of the infantry simulation genre, and we all saw how trying to make such a game more accessible went. Perhaps it could be done right if done by the right people, and I certainly wouldn't choose anyone other than BIS for the job, but I am of the opinion that I don't want the core fans of the series to become alienated by the sudden "ease-of-use" and "everyone can play" requirements of every so-called "accessible" game. Besides, more people are interested in the ARMA series than ever, especially after E3.

AI going to be player centric?

xaitment Partners with Bohemia Interactive Saarbrücken/Quierschied, Germany – June 15, 2011 – xaitment GmbH / Inc., the leading artificial intelligence (AI) technology provider for the video games and simulations industries, today announced a new licensing agreement with Bohemia Interactive, an award winning game and simulation development studio headquartered in Prague. Bohemia Interactive Simulations has integrated xaitment’s AI tools into its VBS2 platform for tactical training and mission rehearsal. The deal acts as a distribution agreement, in essence making future Bohemia Interactive customers xaitment customers at the same time. VBS2 is an industry-leading, game-based simulation employed by many military organizations around the world for training use. xaitMap, xaitment’s dynamic 3D path-finding and automatic navigation mesh generation tool, pre-processes VBS2 terrains to support the simulation’s overall AI. Additionally, the integration of xaitment’s tools xaitMove and xaitControl will provide VBS2 users with high-fidelity solutions for path-following, movement, crowd simulation, character behavior modeling and the creation of finite state machines to augment current VBS2 capabilities. “This partnership with xaitment confirms once again our intent to support the latest cutting-edge middleware to deliver more capability to our users. xaitment is a smart choice because it offers both AI editors and runtime libraries, which is a big differentiator in the market. Our company is now able to supply our clients around the world with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology directly integrated with our VBS2 platformâ€, said Dr. Mark Dzulko, CTO of Bohemia Interactive. “xaitment’s powerful AI tools will help to further enhance and expand the experience our clients will have using our simulation.†“The cooperation of xaitment and Bohemia Interactive is closing the development gap by using high-quality, easy-to-use artificial intelligence editors and runtime libraries in combination with the best sold simulation engine worldwide. We are delighted to partner with Bohemia Interactive,†said Andreas Gerber, Group CEO of xaitment. “This partnership is an unrivaled advantage for our customers using VBS2 with one of the most advanced AI middleware solutions on the market. Our customers can directly start modeling their CGFs and other AI bots using our well-known graphical tools without having to program anything. We are excited about the immense and unlimited possibilities of creating new, unique and intelligent training and simulation games.†Indeed. I figured it may be relevant to the future of AI possibilities for BIS as a whole, however.

AI going to be player centric?

    Might have relevance.
  16. It certainly ruined my day when I paid $60, waited for it to download, installed it, changed my settings, tried to play MP, discovered the horrible performance bugs (that are still there to this day and are due to dualcore CPUs not running on Windows XP, apparently), and realized that it was a wide-spread problem by searching the PC sections of the Steam forums and Call of Duty forums. I think the fact that the performance issues are still there, I have a non-refundable $60 sitting on my Steam account due to Steam's policies, and Activision/Treyarch are releasing DLC on PC that you still have to pay for, justifies my "hating" of the game.
  17. Give a big round of applause to the always-necessary Devils Advocate, everyone! EA don't care about you at all, therefore you shouldn't need to defend them.
  18. Cutscenes. Setting them up, getting the right angles, adding effects, animations, sounds, scripting them & then bug-fixing them. Easily the most time-consuming task for myself when making missions.

    Visit BIS?

When I was in Prague a few years back I had contemplated going to visit BIS, but I called it off because 1) Mníšek pod Brdy is further outside Prague than I expected, and 2) they probably didn't need me distracting them while I was there. Not entirely sure what their policy is on visitors, though. :p

new to arma 2.confused about all the realeses..

My Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead launch experience (day 1, I started the download at exactly midnight CET of the release date): Run Sprocket-downloaded setup.exe Leave the install folder alone as it has automatically selected my Arma 2 installation folder Run the installation Change my shortcut so that it points to the new arma2oa.exe file in my root folder Run the game, play the campaign, mess around in the editor, play some MP What is it with people and thinking that such a process is so difficult? Hell, with the DLCs they now even launch automatically without having to add a -mod=BAF;PMC parameter to your shortcut, but even that is done in the shortcut it creates after each time you install either DLC. I think you guys need to start putting even just a tiny bit of effort in if you expect something in return.

We all love a bit of Duke!

They're too realistic for a Duke Nukem game, in my opinion. It was never trying to be serious, and the mechanics don't compliment that. There are many complaints about only being able to carry 2 weapons, and how quickly Duke takes damage. Were it any other game we wouldn't care, but DN should never try to look or play serious.

We all love a bit of Duke!

If I saw a less realistic approach to it, with large amounts of health, multiple weapons to carry, health packs instead of health regeneration, and tons of enemies thrown at you all at once, I would be more interested. To me, DNF seems like the Duke Nukem world thrown into/adapted for Call of Duty mechanics, and therefore I couldn't care less about it.
  23. camera.sqs was modified in secret sometime along the way. Honestly, I prefer the code it copies because I make all of my cutscenes in SQF, which requires each line to end in a semi-colon. I used to have to add them all individually, but now I just have to add it to the last line it copies, and then delete the comment. @camCommitted _camera is a pretty useless command for me. All it does is wait for the camera to reach its next position before continuing. I find always deleting it and using sleep instead gives me much more control. Thread moved to the appropriate section.
