Harvest Red was a huge inspiration for this campaign. What it did gave me many ideas, if you don't include the entire storyline (for the most part). Reactions to it also showed me what people did and didn't like to see in campaigns. OA's campaign is also inspiration for my next campaign.

It's a whole new campaign for Combined Operations. ;) You need to press / on the numpad to change view ports. The red dot sight on top of the scope should still be there unless you're using a mod that stops it.

Well, JIP has made huge and complex missions like Domination, Warfare and Evolution possible. It's also made it possible to only be playing said missions all the time... :p -

Eh, JIP's a great feature, I just don't like what it's allowed the MP scene to become... OFP MP held the most fun experiences I've ever had in a MP game, bar none. :D -

The best way to deal with Mr.Pulverizer is to ignore him. Now whether or not that means you put him on his ignore list, or simply disregard his posts, is up to you. ;) -
I should start by saying I don't have an update on my campaign being made for OA because I've been on holiday since the 16th of July and thus haven't been able to work on it. Sorry. :( When I get back, however, I should have some news for you all. But I did figure I should mention something else very surprising which I've recently found out thanks to SaOk on the OFPEC forums. Apparently, my campaign was mentioned in their review of OA. Here's the full quote from SaOk: I must say I am greatly honored. I had no idea my campaign would be received with such a reaction. This is truly motivating for me, and I couldn't have done it without all of the people who helped me with the campaign, as well as all the fans. Thanks, guys. :D

Long time no see, Albert. :p The biggest shame is that DR and Red River (eugh...) will probably tarnish the OFP name forever, and people won't even know of CWC and Resistance... DR created the wound. Red River (what is this I don't even -) is the salt. -
Yeesh, even with a more detailed manual and excellent new tutorials, people still don't use them and then have an issue when they can't do what would be taught to them if they had made use of them...

Lol, a guy who actually defends MW2 and attacks BC2. You, my friend, are a rareity. ;) I own both games and I think both are shit, but I still play them. The only thing they are good for is a break from the seriousness of Arma 2. Both have severe bugs, severe unbalances and are severely consolized. They easily have the budget and manpower to fix them, but they're too busy working on Black Ops (Activision, IW doesn't seem to exist anymore) and MOH/BF3 (DICE) to give a shit. However, if I did have to choose one that's better, BC2 is an easy choice. At least it gave slightly more of a shit about it's original fanbase on the PC...

Okay, here we go. Answering a wall-of-text post. ... *sigh* What can I say, you're one of the overwhelming minority. The majority, even the "fans" of DR, knew that it was absolutely broken and unfinished. Plus, it's desync was horrible due to the fact it used terrible P2P netcode (apparently done by Quazal, who don't usually do that bad...). If you didn't have those issues, you simply got lucky. But hey, in the end, they lied about the MP on their own box, claiming it's best experienced using dedicated servers, which never came into existance. That reminds me of people I sometimes watch on YouTube, popular players of MW2, BC2, etc. "The MP on the 360 lags less than on the PS3", "BC2 used dedicated servers so why can't MW2? That would fix the lag", "P2P works much better than dedicated servers. My connection is always 4 bars". The lag on either console is not dependent on the console in any way, it's dependent on the host. And the host is never a dedicated server on the console, they mixed that up with the PC version. Finally, 4 bars in most games is if your ping is below 100ms, which isn't exactly lag-free. It's exactly the same as Arma 2. For one, I bet their "lag" was FPS lag, in which case it's caused by their PC being sub-par enough to run DR (which isn't at all performance heavy thanks to it's console optimization), or it was actually desync which is simply caused by your friends' distance to the server and the quality of the connection. It's not caused by Arma 2 itself. Arma 2's MP is actually very fluid unless you're trying to be a sniper. Both ArmA's and Arma 2's campaigns were functional out of the box. I played through both on the first try, and played them through many times afterward. It simply got more fluid for me as it was patched. Something went wrong on your end. Not a game bearing the OFP name. It sounds like your friends enjoyed DR simply because it's more akin to the modern FPS, rather than a simulator like Arma 2. It needs a certain accessability, but not the point that it's dumbed down. And what's with that word, nowadays? "Accessable"? OFP is accessable, so is ArmA and so is Arma 2. But it's not dumbed down, and never will be. Accessable nowadays seems to mean dumbed down... Then why are you standing up for CM's horrible practices deployed with DR? Are you simply blind or do you not care? DR was far, far more broken out of the box than Arma 2. Fact. Even DR's "fans" thought it was. That's pretty bad. For you to think it's not puts you, and your friends, as I said before, in a very, very small minority. Of course, but it's not broken. It didn't work for you, but it worked for many others, including myself, on the first try. DR on the other hand lied about having dedicated servers on it's box. Heck, it lied by simply having the title "Operation Flashpoint", in my books. Both Arma 2 and OA got significantly better reviews than ArmA and OFP before it. They were both in substantially better state at release than the previous itterations, and have simply gotten better. So much better that some reviewers have redone their reviews using the latest patches and gave them significantly higher scores. PC Gamer US has also developed a love for Arma 2, see Evan Lahti and ARMACast. DR definitely needed support, and it never got it. In fact, the patches made things worse. The latest patch removed mod support entirely, and actually caused hardware issues. Now, I'd make the same comments about your perceptions as I did before, but to be honest I don't want to keep typing it. All in all you seem to be a much more casual gamer, same with your friends. Therefore you all found DR more enjoyable as it's much more "accessable". That's fine, stick to DR, but you cannot deny that the game is broken in many ways, did not get support, and you as customers were treated like dogs by Codemasters. But hey, if that doesn't bother you, that's your choice. I just think you're simply giving them an incentive to continue such practices by agreeing to give them your money... -

I call this stage in sequel development "The Cleanup". Quietly and rather nonchalantly make all the issues of the sequel's predecessor disappear from the public eye. Works on the mindless masses that make up DR's pea-sized "fanbase", at the very least. -

On the scale that DR had, and the incredible bore that was the campaign and all SP missions, it's not hard to get that "working out of the box". Would you really want a really boring game that worked exactly as it should but only because of how short it is on features, or would you like one with a few issues but offers a truly unique experience and a developer committed to supporting the game and fixing it's issues? I know which camp I will always remain in. Oh, and the MP hardly worked out of the box. It was terrible, and the patches didn't fix it. Not to mention that the blurb on the box outright lied about it... -
Damn Litos, that was probably my favorite video from you. Absolutely awesome! :D

It's not something that the game is sold with, therefore it doesn't make a lot of sense to put money into advertising it. It would be a different story if it was sold with OA, but that's not the case. People seem more concerned with MW2's MP being a buggy and unbalanced mess at the moment than Arma 2 or OA... The "modern gamer" is not only of minimum brain function, but it is also afraid to try anything outside of the big-name, huge-budget brands, such as Call of Duty or HALO. Most people who are "popular" in the MW2 scene at the moment only own Call of Duty games, and perhaps HALO 3. It's pretty ridiculous to see how these guys confine themselves to one series. I'm a fairly hardcore BIS fan, but I also play tons of other (PC) games.

You mean aside from the horrible DLC and support? -
It looks like it might have an interesting SP campaign, but it looks a bit too over-the-top for my tastes, and might not warrant it's price tag since I know I already don't like the MP. Also, in interviews they've spoken about being more realistic than Battlefield, but that's obviously gone out the window. But there's one cool reveal about that trailer at the very end: Hm... What to do about this...

Here's how I understood it (and what I used as a basis for my campaign, more or less): To me, this seems the most likely interpretation, though there are still a few plotholes. :p

I spotted OA in the Virgin Megastore near me within the tucked away PC section (what's with Virgin and seemingly hating it's PC customers? Most of the games are from last year and they're tucked away in the back...) before I left on holiday. That's a Virgin Megastore in the middle east. If I can find it there, surely it cannot be hard to find elsewhere. And that's exactly why gaming sucks so hard nowadays, for the most part. It hasn't simply become ease of use, it's become spoon-feeding and babysitting. Mainstream developers, at one point or another, seem to have had a revelation that their consumers are retarded and therefore need to be treated as such in their games. Whether or not that revelation was true at the time is irrelevant, but what is true is it has changed most "modern gamers" into minimum-brain-functioning retards incapable of the most basic of tasks beyond shooting their gun and killing their target. This series has actually taught me basic scripting which has helped me develop basic C++ skills, it's (indirectly) taught me video editing, it's taught me 4, 6 and 8 figure grid references, it's taught me leadership techniques and has given me a very simplistic idea of what it could be like to be a real soldier, a career I am considering after finishing my A-Levels. Getting that much out of a game, and more that I can't think of off the top of my head, nowadays is considered unbelievably and almost impossibly difficult by the "modern gamer", and in turn BIS' games are the only games I've seen so far that have the possibility of teaching me such things, which refers back to mainstream developers and their views of their customers.

"Red River"... "Tighter"... So far I'm liking CM giving us a pool of puns to use. :p I wouldn't want them to give BIS back the OFP name. It's garnered a bad reputation from modern gamers thanks to DR. As much as that may royally suck, they can stick with their own bad reputation as they deserve it. -

The most ironic thing about all of this is that they do indeed seem to be serious with that name. Wonder if it will go the way of the "2" in DR eventually... -

Lmao, well, I'm currently without any access to image editing software so I had to use one of those generators which wouldn't crop properly. Sorry. :p Edit: Thanks to the marvels of Paint there's now one that doesn't fail so hard. :D

One will quickly find that the mentioning of CM's "OFP" games rots one's mind to the point where one feels compelled to carry out such retarded discussons, Placebo. I call it the Red River effect... *cough*
