    thanks for the tip wipman. I've been trying out a bunch of different things for the scope. Each one seems to have a downside: 1. aimpoint style. The view through the scope is way WAY too small because of perspective. And, it's ugly as hell (my fault, because it's my first try). 2. "optika_" style. This uses a mask or some kind of 3d shape. What it looks like though is a standard old-school texture ret. Also, it looks bad on widescreen because the edges get blacked out. Ok, but not great. 3. Currently trying to get a new "optics only" model working, so you'll look though a seperate model when scoped. The Good news: I've got the zoom working exactly the way I want. Using the +/- keys (default) you can zoom between standard magnification (no-zoom) and 4x zoom (about the same as ACOG). I'm hitting targets at ~450meters first shot, almost every time.

    Matt was working on this replacements. It was all him, I knew nothing about it, so I'm afraid you'd have to ask him. send him a PM. @RW: the IBH is on my list, as is the MICH. Seems like the tier-one units use all three.

    I was in "group" last year and I'm now in the airborne infantry. I spent 7 years in the Army, including 1 year in Iraq. Out of respect for my fellow soldiers I'm going to have to go ahead and call this guy out. He's a poser without a doubt. Until I see some hard evidence or see more convincing "language", I'm not buying it. But, he doesn't have to prove anything to any of us does he? Nice looking units, keep up the good work. First, this should go to PM. PM him yourself. Second, I've seen him around the BFS forums and maybe at GR.net. He has proven (to me at least) that he is who he says he is. and just to get back on topic: I've got 4 new units sitting around my harddrive all finished but doing nothing. 2 with ballcaps 2 with tan helmets (from AimPoint) I'll release 'em, but I'll say you need Queen's Gambit to use 'em.

    nice. I didn't realize there were 3 different types of MICH helmets. Since you guys have been so supportive, I'll post a WIP. The vest is (will be) a Paraclete RAV. Please make suggestions. I especailly need help with scale. Should the vest or mag pouches be smaller or bigger? please C&C, it's the only way the model's gonna get better.

    Thanks Road Warrior. I just had a look at the Eagle vest and it looks exactly like what I've been seeing in pictures. As far as modeling goes, it's almost identical to the Paraclete RAV which I have been making. Do you have any good reference shots? otherwise I can try specwargear. welcome to the forums too.

    guys, yes, I do want to add all those things. I too would really like to see baseball caps and shemaghs and traditional Afghan hats (forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure what they're called in english) in ArmA. They would go nicely in a Green Beret addon, if I can ever figure out how to export stuff properly. But I'm not going to throw everything into one addon. It doesn't really make sense for assaulters to be wearing ballcaps, and it doesn't really make sense for intel/recon to be wearing assault vests. First addon will be Delta "shooters" Second is still up in the air (as is the first unless I get some expert help).

    Thanks Zadoff! about my next weapon, I haven't really thought about what it will be. First I want to get this one done right, and that won't happen until I get the Short-Dot looking nice and working well. Also, I've started working on making new character models.     Ok guys, I need some expert help again. Looking at the BIS aimpoint, I found this: Here is the view you see while aimed. How can I make one of these for the Short Dot Scope? Where would the geometry go in the 3d model, and how in the config could I get it to display properly. I really need some help with this guys. It is what's halting the addon's release. How in gods names did BIS get this to work?

    In-game WIP. ShortDot and Silencer. The white sparkle is from the normal/spec maps. They haven't been updated to match the new texture yet. That will be fixed. RH has done an awesome DMR/sniper version. Hopefully he'll let you see it.

    What are you using to edit them? Oxygen? Thanks and good luck on your M14 I'm using 3dsm 7 to do the modeling. I've got a BIS soldier in .3ds format (it was part of the examples pack they released). When I need to export I just convert back to .3ds and it'll go into Oxygen for final export.

    Me and RobertHammer have been working hard getting these finished and in-game. There's around 5/6 different versions. New sounds. New config (thanks to RH). Updated ammo box. They're working fine, but need some tweaking and polishing still. Mainly sorting the scope out.

    Indeed, Bugkill is right (he should know, he's the one been helping me with research). I've been busy with my M14 this weekend, but once that's released I can work on this stuff. The plan is to model a group of 4/5 unique Delta operators to start with. ArmA doesn't really have any "assaulter" units, so these would fill a big gap. Different helmets/vests/holsters/boots etc. All similar but with slight variation. They'd all be based off the original BIS models, but just with new gear. I can model/texture and even make simple normal maps, but I will be looking for someone to help get this stuff exported.

    Yup. That's exactly what I used to do with my Ghost Recon characters (never released ) Of course, with GR it was easier, all specialists had names/bios to start with. But I used to put rank in there as well. Not sure what unit I'm going to represent right now. I think starting off with just US Army Special Forces would be good, or maybe some JSOC operators who are part of a task force. All similar gear anyway. The "group" as you say, would perhaps give me the most options and be easier to make into other units later. But yes, I like the names idea

    Thanks for all the replies guys, and the PM bugkill. I've seen some other people start to put extra pouches and stuff onto original characters, so if I get stuck I can ask them. The goggles would be hard, but it would be cool. Helmet's would be a good start. I really want to do a whole new vest though. I also want to make these: Peltor Military Comms baby steps.

    Lol, I say "special Ops" because I know people would understand it. Clav would know exactly who I was talking about if I said "Group", but most people wounldn't, so I just go with "special ops" and leave it at that. Never had to repeat or make people understand what I was talking about. Any reference pics either of you guys could send me would be greatly appreciated. Pics that are from straight on are better. But everything helps really. I want to try and add little bits of kit to the base models. I'm good enough in 3ds max, that it wouldn't be impossible for me. Model/texturing would be easy, getting stuff in-game is the hard part. I was thinking new helmets, and headsets. Maybe even putting an entire new vest over the old one. Clav and Bugkill: What are the biggest errors with the models? PS: been trying out COD4. it's fun

    Actually, I've already got the long barrel done. took about 2 seconds. I just take the verts of the original barrel and stretch em out a bit further. It stretches the texture on the back of the barrel, but it's mostly covered anyway. But ya, he'll get it when it's done. How many versions/what combinations would you guys like to see? here's what you've got to play with right now: long barrel, short barrel, front grip, silencer, short-dot, irons, sniper scope

    Bugkill: Please rant more often And this one's for you. I've never made boot textures before, so they're a bit rough. And yes, I will put them on a character with un-bloused pants. texture detail is on medium

    I need some help here. (see pic bellow for illustration). For the aimpoint style scope, is this how I do things? ArmA supports proper Alpha textures? So if I use a spline box (one sided) it will look normal? I could use these for glass and ret textures? I've never tried to make a weapon for 1st person view before. Updates: Short-dot, silencer, front grip are all fully unwrapped and ready to be textured. (as you can see). So that hard part is done! All 3 are on one texture. The rets&glass will be on a third because I forgot about them/don't know how they work Thanks for the pics H.H.. Also, I've agreed to let RobertHammer have the sniper version of the gun exclusively for his RH mod (because he's been so kind and put the gun in-game for me). I'll probably release a mini-addon with a few versions of the EBR, but you'll see the sniper version first in RH's mod.
