Not very encouraging news about ArmedA 2
Yuzzi replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Like how? Yes it's possible that in someway they are, like modding or view distance (compared to high end PCs), but i would still be seeing mostly same kind if product. A proof? OFP Elite? Oblivion's Developers said that Oblivion wasn't scaled down because of Xbox 360. -I know that high-end PC is different beast, but most of us are still using average level PCs and that is something which is scaling down PC game developement as games are aimed at these guys too. I'm sorry that we are using poor PCs -And i've read few small dev-team in game business to curse the fact that extra resources are drawn form makeing game better (like squashing bugs) to get games to work with big amount of different hardware Its not about the horsepower. Rather than the performance difference, its two things that makes console->pc ports feel scaled down: 1) the controllers 2) distance from which you look at the screen In oblivion, pc-men had to use several mods to get UI feel bearable, default inventory had only laughable amount of stuff showing at once (because console-men dont see smaller stuff from their far away chairs). Also the crosshair was disturbingly large. Need for speed underground series (atleast 1&2) had so horrible menus on pc that it really made me wanna brake something. You have to browse through millions of options WITH A FRIGGING KEYBOARD to do a simple thing that could be done with a single mouse click. Now imagine PC mission editor in arma2, that doesnt utilize mouse because console gamers dont have it. Its not flaming, but something that really frightens me. -
Its a good idea, and suggested before too if i remember correctly.

"How many here really believe the M4 is still able to fire a round?" No one, most likely. But its a game and realism doesnt always equal fun. EDIT: Im not a weapon expert here and only been in military for six months but my RK 95 didnt die for taking an accidental dive every now and then :P

Yeah. Im sure it has been discussed before but some sort of weight system would be very nice addition as not taking so much crap with you would suddenly make sense (faster running, slower tiring - even more so in water, too much weight would degrade swimming speed to almost non-existant forcing player to drop some equipment, but NOT automatically as in arma) .
-
I find it hard to believe that one can swim with a rifle, AA launcher, couple of satchels, ammo - SF or not SF
-
I personally dont like the autodrop weapons feature at all. Maybe if you had an option to drop your weapon - and if you dont, youll sink or your swimming is hindered somehow? Special forces could handle swimming with weapons better than regular but that takes the game towards role based system which im not sure that people want.

What part do you need help with? maybe you could count alive tangos with a script something like this: _tarray = [t1, t2, t3, t4] _tcount = 0 "?(alive _x):_tcount = _tcount + 1" forEach _tarray hint format["%1 enemies alive", _tcount] And name tangos as t1, t2 etc. Not sure with the scripting syntax, been a long time.

Not sure but I think theres a fixed lifetime for bullets making it impossible to shoot very far

Hi. Me and couple of friends started a dedicated linux server while ago. It works fine except for this one thing - it will not run some missions (and yes, all the needed addons are there). When admin selects the map, people get "waiting for server" screen and hang there till #missions command is given again. The problem is related to the filename somehow, because sometimes renaming the .pbo file helps. For example if I upload a map called "the bestest mission" and decide to update it, and throw in a new version with similar filename it will not work. Name doesnt even have to be nearly the same, newly loaded maps with words "bestest" or "the" in them will not work either after that. Then simpy renaming the map to "workdamnit" will fix the problem, but then nothing similar to "workdamnit" will not work when uploaded. Rebooting server with #shutdown -admin command doesnt seem to help.

What I mean is in ofp you cant pefrorm a tactical reload - leave a bullet in your gun and change the clip with your left hand so in case of an emergency you can shoot once, even with no magazine attached. This would be a nice addition in cqb-situations, and I wonder why its not included in ofp since atleast in my military training they repeated it over and over again "always, always do this.."

Yes well Im not a programmer (atleast not a good one :P), but to me implementing that thing really does not SOUND like a loads of work. Anyway not compared to some other, maybe not so needed suggestions made on this forum.
-
Great idea indeed. And doesnt sound like too much work for bis. With this feature it wouldnt feel so stupid to sit in a boat with a straight spine while enemy MG hammers the water around you.
-
Yup it sounds cool. There might be a need for more options than just on/off propably.

In ofp2 would be smooth if important-to-do-fast -commands (like eject) could be bound in a key instead of having them in action menu. And the ones that already have a keyboard command (reload-R, binocular-B, nightvision-N) may not need to be in actionmenu. They just hassle things up and make it harder to find command that youre looking for. Things like this are anyway very unpractical to use from the actionmenu. The menu is a cool feature though, but no need to have basic things there imo.
