While I completely understand where you're coming from Grim, I'd rather not have a mod close the only thread dedicated to the console version of ArmA2.
PLEASE stop being confrontational with teh modz.
-
Just because BIS took 'next gen consoles' off the listed platforms on their site doesn't mean they canceled production of the console version.
Maybe they were sick and tired of getting e-mails asking when the console versions would be finished. Maybe they took it off because the console versions won't be released until late next year. Who knows?
But BIS has stated a desire to make a console port on several occasions in several interviews, and unless BIS makes an official announcement that confirms that the console versions have been scrapped I will continue to wait for a console port of ArmA 2.

It's the converted OFP theme, first found (unfortunately) in ArmA 1. Refer to the comments in the Youtube video.Horrible, horrible MIDIesque rubbish. You're better off sticking with the OFP version, at least that one at least sounds like some REAL instruments had something to do with it.
Do you happen to know where I can buy/download the ArmA soundtrack?
-
I'm trying to find a particular song online.
I know it was the theme song for the original OFP, but this version sounds different, like its newer and possibly higher quality.
Maybe its the theme song from ArmA1, I don't know.
I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me the song title and what game its from and i'd REALLY appreciate it someone could provide me with a download link.
Anyway, here's the song I'm looking for :

It would be nice if they gave us some information regarding a console version, other than wasting our time trying to work out whether there's any intention for a release.I've emailed them but no response, doesn't look promising.
Don't worry about it. They can't formally comment about a console port until they've found a publisher for the console port. Apparently they haven't. As soon as they do they will let us know.
-
I found this in the ArmA 2 PC 'Bin.pbo' file, the config file inside that:class Regular { displayName = $STR_XBOX_DIFF_REGULAR; description = ""; visionAid = 0; .....
Notice the display name? Interesting...
That makes me happy in the pants.

Now that sound a lot better!Did you play the elite on live if so you would have played some of my mission. I was one of the main guys making COOP missions. I do hope ARMA2 will have better player vs player missions then the same old TDM,flag and sector. Have a nice day.
PS. What group did you play with back in the day with the elite.
I played OFP: Elite with a few friends of mine. I wasn't in any group so to speak.
-
Yo XGS Che Guevara you just lost me and most of the old community from the elite that you are a real player. Lets go over this again. Most missions were COOP play with the only focus on TEAM WORK not Rambo or Chuck Norris gameplay. For the player vs player mission like TDM well it's about the team not your score and if you played flag or sector without good cover fire from your team you can't bunny hop to safety with this game.
I am starting to think you never play the elite or OFP1 on PC so you should go back to the OFPDR or COD forums because you have no clue about this game. Have a nice day.
---------- Post added at 12:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 AM ----------
First thanks for the links great reads and some good information on the whole console game process before it gets to the market.
Do I know you from the elite.
I was just talking shit whilst masquerading as a mainstream gamer and throwing in an Aliens reference for good measure ('cause Aliens rocks). Apparently it worked very well. :)
Don't get me wrong. I played the original OFP on PC along with Red Hammer and Resistance AND OFP: Elite on XB. And I can't express how much I valued teamwork in versus and co-op.
I guess I was just bored. I'm so sick of run-and-gun mainstream shooters and I DESPERATELY need ArmA 2 (preferably for XB360).
-
Yeah the amount of cross platform owning these days is huge. To me there are no Console or PC gamers........Just gamers.---------- Post added at 08:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:40 AM ----------
I think its purely down to a lack of publisher.....I dont think you're allowed to confrim your game without one.
I may be wrong though?
I want the game to get a publisher and be released for the XB360 SO FUCKING BAD! Its been years since I've played the original OFP and I needz mah fix!
When ArmA 2 does eventually come out for XB360, I'm gonna pwn so many noobz. I don't mean to brag, but I AM the ultimate badass.

The lines get blurred though when you have reprisals against the civilian population or the "freedom fighters/terrorists/resistance" starts targeting civilian collaborators/traitors etc (like what happened all over the place during World War 2). You can bet your ass the Germans were labeling the French resistance movement as "terrorist activity", especially if said movement was killing Frenchmen (which they did). There are no clear lines as far as I'm concerned, it's totally your point of view
In Iraq for example, the terrorists/freedom fighters are targeting civilians as well as US military, for example Iraqi cops, Iraqis who were trying to vote, women who are going to school etc. All messed up stuff from our perspective, but from their perspective these are people who are violating God's law+helping the infidel invaders and thus deserve to be killed.
Totally NOT justifying their actions but I'm just saying... think about it.
True. But you also have to take into account the Iraqi freedom fighters/guerrillas/insurgents that AREN'T targeting civilians (even if they're a minority).
-
This thread is epic.
@ The OP : You can do just about anything with the mission editor.
Concerning the terrorist vs freedom fighter debate : IMO, A terrorist is someone who uses acts of violence against anyone and everyone (including civilians) in order to instill fear to achieve their goal. A freedom fighter is someone who uses acts of violence against government forces/military forces (who are oppressing the civilian population) in order to achieve their goal (which is to make the quality of life for the civilian population better).

I think Crytek is a perfect fit for someone coming from OFDR.What's CM's apparent strategy for "building" on OFP? "Oooh' date=' look at the pretty graphics! I'm gunna shoot meh that red barrel. Mmmmmm.... fiiii-iiire."
IMO, the main thing that people point to when discussing Crytek's work is how it (game, engine, Cevat's Italian shoes, etc.) "looks." Which... I mean, it's cool. But, I found Crysis to be pretty boring. [b']A very sexy version of Halo, more or less.[/b]
So, yeah. A good place for someone from Dragon Rising to land.
I agree completely.
-
I'm sure most of you have heard recently that OFPDR will not have free look and will have stereotypical red explosive barrels placed around the game. I'm sure you've also heard that the damage system allows you to take a direct head shot without major damage.
I just found this and my hopes and dreams for OFPDR are near death.

This vid has single-handedly convinced me that ArmA 2 will be the best shooter for the next decade simply because of how epic it is.

72;1305092']There you go again. ;) Like MadMatt said many times - there is no official statement so far on a XBOX release. Nothing. Just an old announcement on TBA (To Be Announced). So it hasnt even been announced yet.Imagine how much you loose of the ARMA experience with a console. I mean just look at the boys playing away with "AttachTo". :) Wouldnt work on a console. I see the "cant afford a pc" though. Its a shame its so expensive these days to have fun. But for a XBOX release - i think you might be boned there mate. Might.
Alex
I know it hasn't been "OFFICIALLY" announced' date=' but Marek Spanel did say that he wanted to bring ArmA 2 to the consoles and he also said that OVERALL the PC gaming market is going down hill (mainly due to piracy) and a console release makes sense financially.
But don't take my word for it. Listen to it from the horse's mouth :

I just saw& got blown away!!!That blew me away as well. In all honesty, that is the BEST presentation of war I've ever seen in a video game.
The footage makes me sad because I'll never experience that many units on-screen for the XB360 version (I can't afford PC gaming), but at least I'll have that EPICLY awesome gameplay that BIS is known for.
-
Nobody at Gamestar or BIS have stated that it is the Xbox version of the game. You are just assuming based on the interface. They have not announced a console version, so it makes no sense to show one.
There have been PC builds of ArmA 2 shown running with the Xbox interface. That isn't the first time.
From the mouth of Marek Spanel himself, CEO of BIS :
PLAY AT 4:16
-
That's the PC version. Notice the mouse pointer. If it was Xbox footage, they would have said so.
Incorrect. That is footage of the Debug Kit for the XB360.
The Debug Kit is PC compatible since the game itself is first developed on a PC for the XB360. That is why you see a mouse cursor.
Also, on the bottom of the screen you will see the "ABXY" XB360 button scheme.
-
Unfortunately, ArmA2 has not been officially confirmed for the 360. So, your wait may be longer than you anticipate.Debug Kit video footage never lies :

I just saw a horrible post from a forum mod on the official OFPDR forums. It goes something like this :
"CM are not trying to mimic OFP1, that point alone will say that OFP2 has to be different to what extent, CM have said they are taking a different direction and one that opens up a game that had a narrow target audience and make it more accessible.
This game was delayed many times and it is apparent that the title is on the home run, which means launch Autumn (Fall) 2009, like it or not the release date can not change what is coming.
I personally like the new look, the old one was dated & difficult to say the least. It's more serious than COD & it's clones, it's less of a nightmare than ARMA 1 & OFP 1."
The preceding post is one the worst things I've ever heard. And the sad thing is that I feel that the forum mod's post reflects the views of CM on OFPDR.
I won't throw OFPDR to the side just yet, but I'm EXTREMELY worried with how that game is turning out. ArmA 2, on the other hand, impresses me every time I see low-quality gameplay footage on YouTube. I can't wait for ArmA 2 on the XB360!

HiThere is a pinned XBOX 360 thread
Kind Regards walker
You're right, there is.
Don't I feel stupid now. :pet1:
Thanks.
-
No one knows yet, there aren't any release dates yet for console. BI cant say anythign either. So does that mean that a console port isn't even confirmed or just the console port release date?
Because I saw an interview a while back where one of the ArmA2 devs confirmed a console port. Actually, I think I have it. Here it is :

Thanks for replying btw.

I've been tracking the development of both ArmA 2 and OFPDR and I'm sad to say that I've spent more time following OFPDR than ArmA 2. :(
Anyway, my question is this : What is the projected release date for the XB360 version of ArmA 2? Is it this year?
I know many will reply with "use the search bar". I did and I couldn't find a definitive answer. Someone please answer my q.
