Something to round out the year with (I've made four ArmA machinima total this year), probably my last serious film for a bit: u_8pVgwdGT0

Hi guys, Just finished up my latest project and thought I'd share it with you. Hope you enjoy! WP

Awesome advice - thank you! I think of myself as a storyteller first, and I kind of bring the technical elements together as I go. So there's always lots of room for improvement. Will keep all of this in mind for future projects :) ---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:53 PM ---------- Glad you guys are liking the video. I definitely had strong influences from I Am Legend (lots of scenes) and The Road (in particular the scene with the hanging), plus elements of other films as well (There Will Be Blood, No Country, Full Metal Jacket, Moon etc) though some influences are a lot more subtle. The main inspiration came from an old episode of the Twilight Zone with Charles Bronson and Elizabeth Montgomery called "two." That had love story elements sprinkled in that don't apply, but the underlying theme - reconciliation between enemies (US/Russians no less) with no reason left to fight - was carried over. Anyway, I apologize for forcing the mods to merge the thread, I just wasn't sure how best to share this. I am glad you guys have enjoyed it though and I do appreciate the feedback!

Hello guys - I hope I'm not being too presumptuous by starting a thread for this, but since it's been awhile since my last project, The Bombmaker, I thought I'd share this. This was a complicated and challenging project - a lot of work went into it. I hope that you guys enjoy it. This is my first ArmA 2 machinima, though I've made several others with the original ArmA. Let me know what you guys think. (I tried embedding it but no luck, so here's the link)

Yes, I took the sound files, according to the characters, listened to them all and converted the ones I wanted from ogg to wav. It wasn't that technically difficult but it took some planning. And thanks for the positive feedback. =)

Morphicon (petergames.de) ArmA 2 Download Released
Warpoet replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
That's a long, long time from now. Parents buying games as gifts for their kids probably don't want to have to deal with activation keys or DRMs. They want the box. Have to say I would prefer one now as well. I ordered a physical copy of the original ArmA from Morphicon (or some affiliated retailer), and it took awhile, plus some extra shipping fees, but I actually GOT it and didn't have to worry about a download manager corrupting my PBOs. I personally use digital download services for music (DirectSong) and games (Steam), but those are in a much higher category of quality than websites like Metaboli that basically just hack up the files the way people do on rapidshare, slap together an extractor and then mail you an activation key (which I guess is what you're paying for). The answer I got from tech support was basically just "try again." So here I go, downloading the whole damn game AGAIN. Spent about 20 gigs of bandwidth on this. On the bright side, I guess $3 a gigabyte is better than 10 (not). TO WHOEVER ELSE IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH METABOLI DOWNLOADS: I noticed that the corrupt file errors seemed to happen when I tried combining the installer with bin files that had been downloaded at different times. When I put the original downloads back together, the installer at least ran. By ignoring the gazillion corrupt PBOs, I got about 2 gigs of stuff extracted. Nearly all of the large PBOs (400 megs plus, so pretty much the entire game) are missing. It's possible that it was all because of the download manager (the one they recommended, though they now suggest I use "two or three" different ones) but I'm not sure. Giving this thing one more chance. -
Morphicon (petergames.de) ArmA 2 Download Released

By installer I was referring to that .exe. It worked the first time, but told me during installation that the PBOs were corrupt (not all but most). That's when I re-downloaded the first bin to see if that made a difference - and now the installer won't even start. -
Morphicon (petergames.de) ArmA 2 Download Released

What a nightmare. I am very, very unhappy with Metaboli thus far. I can handle having to wait 12 hours to get my activation key. I can even handle the fact that their installer looks like someone made it in ten minutes and that they used screenshots from OFP: DR. What I can't handle is being told after spending 8 hours downloading that a gazillion of the PBO files are corrupted, then re-downloading the first bin file (there are 4) only to have the installer not even start after that, instead giving me this: Runtime Error (at 46:4764): The source file is corrupted. Of course, since their installer wasn't programmed to give any specifics, I had to move all of the files to separate folders and see which one it doesn't like. It asks for the fourth bin first, accepts it, then asks for the first one and gives the same error. I've downloaded that one file four times. That's 8 gigs. Not only is it not working, but now, if I re-download the installer and try to use it, then it won't even accept the fourth bin. No idea what is going on. I just know that I didn't pay 60 dollars to put up with this crap. I sent an e-mail (in German) to Metaboli. I sure as hell hope what other people have been saying about their support isn't true. -
I tried this - I didn't see any improvement in FPS. I have a pretty powerful rig and am really enjoying testing the mod out, but I'm disappointed by the frame rate issues. There is huge potential for multiplayer fun here, but only if the FPS can be worked around. A few things I've noticed: - The FPS doesn't seem to be a consistent problem, but instead seems to cycle, i.e. it will be fine one second and then freeze the second after - Having friendly soldiers onscreen seems to drag FPS down a lot more than having fast zombies does, especially when the soldiers are firing their weapons - Cities don't seem to be a whole lot worse than open areas in terms of FPS; I get better framerates sending 40 or so SLA to clear Corazol with about 150 zeds in it than I would 10 SLA on an island fighting 60 zeds - The generic zombies (Zombie 1-4) go down a lot easier than all of the other ones do; zombified soldiers or civilians take a hell of a lot more damage and usually require a grenade or a machine gun for one person to kill them in time I'm very noobish when it comes to mapmaking; all I'm good at is throwing lots of units on the map and giving them generic waypoints. I am still enjoying the hell out of this mod, and I'd actually teach myself to make MP maps if I thought it could work. Imagine how much fun it would be doing a co-op where players just have basic vehicles that they can fetch from a few bases scattered on the island, and then go from city to city clearing out hordes of super fast, uber-dangerous zeds. It'd be even cooler to have the cities start out with civilians or even soldiers and let the players clean it all up. I'm just wondering if it can be done. Could you have units spawn and let the players clear the island one city at a time? Could it work?
