Moreover, I'd gigooly any info AT ALL, regarding your plans for the AC-130 . For instance, the variant, proposed loadout, planned features, etc. Gigigiddy Goo! okthnxbi
  2. Actually, the purpose is to put as many operators on the ground as is possible in the least amount of time- without having to land the helo.

    BOS mod navy seals

Quoted for truth. This is what they typically would be seen wearing on missions today. You'd also see them wearing peshmerga hats, guttra, shamaghs, and various other garments to help them blend in/form alliances with, whoever the local population are. Oh, and one must never forget dark sunglasses, ball caps, and BIG, chunky, dive watches. Dive gear would be black, OD, and desert tan wet suits, or dry suits, with rebreathers. Once they hit the beach, they strip out of their dive gear. During airborne HALO/HAHO jumps, teams will wear OD, and desert tan flight suits. Extra equipment, such as weapons and dive gear, is secured with paracord. Back in the sixties and seventies, they would usually wear tiger-stripe, OD fatigues, and sometimes even bits and pieces of kit worn by allied nations. I've read many accounts of SEALs in 'Nam wearing blue jeans, "VC pajamas", and even open-toed sandals on operations. Back when I was in the Navy, I would often see them walking about the ship wearing OD Nomex flight suits, "chocolate-chip" desert pattern, and khakis shorts/trousers with blue and yellow hooded sweat shirts and tees. This would be considered their garrison outfit. I received quite a few briefings and training evolutions from SEALs dressed this way. Basically, they wore/wear whatever is most functional/comfortable for the mission at hand. Besides, you've got be a VERY BIG man to tell an 800lb. gorilla what he can or can't wear when he's cutting throats, kicking in doors, and taking fire in some forgotten Third-World Hellhole.

The "dirt geyser" effect is certainly cool, and I look forward to seeing this in the game. My only point of contention however, is that spray of earth and rocks is being caused by an explosive warhead- so it should also produce a burst of fire, and/or smoke at the point of the explosion. I figure the hand grenade effect would be a good starting point.

Hi, your Pavehawk looks amazing dude, seriously. I can't wait to see it with the refueling boom. Do think you'll be doing the Lima with the ESSS, and/or the DAP variant? That would certainly be SUPER AWESOME!!!!

    Mortars

I have a question, and hopefully, this could be helpful; Couldn't a mortar, shell, artillery rocket, etc. be modeled after the Scud? ( which, I believe, was made using Mando's Missiles script? ) So basically, certain basic config parameters could be adjusted, models would be created and modified, and eventually we'd have a weapon that could be used to strike any target on the game map- in theory.... So, assuming the above could be made to work, the next question becomes: Will the AI be able to use the system effectively against a human player? Oh, BTW: As a spinoff of the above, the same system could be used to simulate over-the-horizon artillery support from ships, long range land-based artillery, and airborne gunship. ( I need an AC-130 so bad! ) Or.... Could artillery, or mortars be simulated more effectively, by "setpos'ing" a gun barrel high enough over a game map, so that the AI can detect and attack any target with direct fire? I guess that would require some imaginative modding to make it look realistic, and to make it functional. Anyway, I'm hoping someone who knows a lot more about OFP/ArmA modding, might be inspired- or, could at least tell me why this couldn't be done....

    Dan and his flying machines

The nose should be a bit longer, and more chiseled. Keep it up! I'd love to see a good representation of the "MiG-31 Firefox" in the game. It really cracks me up when I think of how technology has actually taken shape since the release of that film. Laymen such as myself can see that the Firefox couldn't have been nearly as stealthy, fast, maneuverable, or as heavily armed as the fictional aircraft was supposed to be. They were very entertaining books ( I believe there were at least two or three novels. ) as well. The real world has turned out to be so much different from the author's vision.

    T-90

Once again, the West has proven it's capability of penetrating dense air defenses, destroying those air defenses from stand-off range, thus allowing the heavy bombers to attack with relative impunity. Using low-observable aircraft, unmanned platforms, and cruise missiles, there are no known cost-effective defenses against that kind of attack. Cruise missiles, stealth, and offensive electronic countermeasures defeats the SAMs and radar. Low-observable fighters defeat the MiGs and Sukhoi interceptors, And stand-off range attack munitions, and ARMs defeat the short-range/low-altitude systems. Wash, rinse, and repeat until air superiority/dominance is achieved. These are not unpracticed, immature tactics and technology- the West has gotten VERY good at this power projection game. One might argue that this is what they do best. One must assume that a number of aircraft and missiles WILL get through, and eventually, they will knock out the air defense network. So, that means the tanks themselves must be made more survivable versus the inevitable horde of weaponry that will be sent to kill it. The tanks can be up-armored, and upgraded with defensive technologies that may lessen the impact of anti-armor attacks, but then the tanks become larger, heavier, more complicated, and MUCH more expensive. So, in conclusion, all the effort to produce and field world-beating MBT's, can only be achieved at very great cost, with the inevitable result of diminishing returns for the enormous national investment required.

Are you suggesting the Challenger is no longer fitted with a 120mm maingun? As far as I know, just about all Western tanks utilize a 120mm maingun, and it has yet to be proven that it cannot defeat any current or proposed Russian MBT. If given the choice of having to operate a modern Western MBT or the Russian equivilant, I'd choose the Western MBT without hesitation. There's ample reason to assume the Western weapon and armor combination will prevail over the Russian tank- and if that's not enough, there's the additional factors of tactical intelligence, net-centric warfare, training and crew skill, logistics, and support. Besides, the simple fact is, the Russian tanker shouldn't be worried about the enemy's tank. He should be worried about all the types of advanced robotic anti-armor weapons that will be launched in swarms against his tank by the West's aircraft and artillery, long before he even sees a Western tank. As inexpensive as the Russian's best MBT is in comparison to the best of the West, smart anti-armor weapons are cheaper and far more plentiful. A single cluster bomb/missile/shell like the WCMD, SFW, JSOW, LOCAAS, and ATACMs can devour an entire tank column's worth of armor with a single attack. One B-52, B-1, or B-2 fully loaded with WCMD, or SFW could effectively wipe out an entire tank battalion with one sortie. Realistically speaking, the most effective, and safest use of heavy armor these days, is to employ them against an enemy that doesn't possess a massive array of advanced anti-armor weapons.

    6thSense.eu Presents: WeaponPack

I really hope you can fix it soon, because I think this is what is keeping the AI from firing the weapon. Would it be possible to create an AI-friendly M-32 that has only one muzzle? Maybe one muzzle might be effective for humans as well, if you could extend the player's vision far enough out in front of the muzzle, that your zoomed vision was not blocked by the elevated barrel? Perhaps a ranging reticle could be used in addition to the reflex sight? Maybe you could use the mode key to switch between a long-range setting, and a reflex sight for direct fire? Have you seen the addon that allows you to fine-tune elevation and windage with the arrow keys? Maybe that could be adapted to super-elevate the muzzle for ranged fire. Also, is it possible to "lock" the weapon on a target with a right click, and then elevate the barrel to the appropriate elevation, until the "locked" symbol appears on the target? It might be a bit of a cheat, but would still require the player to actually find the correct elevation before firing.
  15. Cool. You rock. Carry on.

Do you have any plans to do the HK21, 21-E, and or G8 MG's? They are some of my favorite weapons ever produced for OFP. I'd really LOVE a scoped G8, with various magazine/feed options.

Yep, I'm requesting the SCAR and variants, as well. And while I'm at it, I want Santa to bring me an AA-12 shotgun, an Ares Shrike LMG, and an (X)M-25 Air Burst Weapon. Just chalk it up to greed, and virtual reality bloodlust.
  18. RKSL has already mentioned that they intend to do a Predator, I'm not sure whether they mean the "A" or "B" model, though.

    More effects?

Here's another; A flash-bang effect, that stuns both human players, and AI. This would be a great tool for CQB/dynamic entry/MOUT missions. In OFP, there was a grenade addon that caused "ringing" in the ears, as well as a blinding flash if you were too close to the detonation. So, it could "stun" humans. Even better still, would be a scripted effect that could cause any character in the effect range to "DoStop this", and drop to prone position- effectively immobilizing the victim for 2.5-3.5 seconds or so. Might even be fun to cause the victim to drop their carried weapon, if they were very close to the detonation. IRL, that is how stun grenades work. They cause such a massive sensory overload, the brain of the victim has to stop everything non-vital, and "reboot". It's like how the nuke effect drops my frame-rate to zero for a second. And then you simply kill them. And BTW: Someone tell me if I'm stupid or crazy, but would it be possible for smoke grenades to create an invisible target effect, that the enemy AI would have to target? I'm thinking that a smoke grenade would produce a number of very small, slow moving, invisible enemy targets that the opposition would have to target for the duration of the smoke effect, causing them to ignore everything else, and/or waste their ammo shooting at them. Each side would have their own smoke grenades, so that only their enemy can see the targets. I suppose a problem might occur if you were to use an enemy smoker- your own nearby AI troops would be rendered 'tarded, while the grenade was smoking. But, I think I could live with that for 10-15 seconds, if it meant I now had a good reason to fill an ammo slot with a smoke grenade.

    More effects?

Thermobaric bombs have nothing to do with fire. There are/have been developed, and/or currently in use- thermobaric, and FAE-type weapons with an added incendiary effect. Some of the proposed Agent Defeat Weapon warhead options, and the RPO-A Shmel for instance. That said, I specifically mentioned napalm (type) weapons as well.
  22. VIPER SHIVA

    More effects?

I can think of two additional effects that would be really helpful for addon makers: 1. Persistant fire, that causes damage to models. Just an incendiary warhead, that creates nothing but flash, fire, and smoke. I want napalm, and thermobaric bombs. 2. A timed, or proximity-triggered detonation. Proximity would be best for simulating air-burst warheads. I'm sure I'll think of others.

    6thSense.eu Presents: WeaponPack

First off, I'd like to thank you for another excellent addon. The new M-32 MGL is a HUGE plus to an already fantastic pack. There are some points though, that I'd like to address: 1. The reason the M203 UGL was developed, was to provide the grenadier with a better weapon to defend himself in close combat. He could simply switch to defense by going to the attached rifle, instead of having to rely on some frags, and a handgun. Now it seems thirty years since the adoption of the M203, we've come full circle- the grenadier has much more firepower at his disposal with the M-32 MGL, but is back to a sidearm for self defense. Somehow, I doubt the Marine grenadiers are going be satisfied with a measly 15rnd. M9, instead of the M4. So, I'm wondering if this weapon could be carried as a secondary, in addition to the M4? ( and maybe a handgun for SPECOPS units. ) If weight was that much of a factor, perhaps the MP5 could be carried as a primary. ( But, considering the MP5 is being phased out of service, and is not much lighter than an M4, it's probably more realistic to carry the M4. ) 2. The AI doesn't seem to like using the MGL. 3. The tracer isn't very realistic, the M433 doesn't have a tracer. I understand the purpose of the tracer in this addon, it really helps to aim the weapon at long range. So, could the tracer be greatly reduced? Right now, the grenade looks like an out-bound comet with a long red tail. 4. The velocity seemed a little low in comparison to real life M433 grenades. 5. The grenades explode on impact even at point-blank range. IRL, the M433 arms at about 30m down range.

    Mortars

It's a vital piece of kit, actually. Perhaps a larger problem would be how the AI would use it, and how difficult it would be for the player to use it. I LOVED CoC's arty system, but it was a bit clunky for me to use, and the AI couldn't use it at all against me, as I remember. I'm typically one the peope who'll always complain about realism, and I don't want something totally arcady, but a plug and play pbo, that is fairly quick and easy to use would be absolutely AWESOME.

    MAKE SHOTGUNS WORK

The way I remember a buckshot pattern being best simulated in OFP, was to give the ammo a small area effect ( like a very small grenade burst ), causing a small amount of damage. The maximum range of the pellets should be limited to about 300m, accuracy limited to no more than 100m. *There have been numerous, and still on-going, no doubt- tests with flechette shells, and they can even be purchased online. Flechette ammo would allow an increase in range and accuracy out to 300, but would probably produce half the damage of a typical load of .00 buck. I'd say the area of effect should be about 25%-1/3 of a square meter, causing about 3-5 hits of 9mm subsonic worth of damage. In addition to the buckshot shell, every shotgun should also be able to load a slug shell, with a increase to range, accuracy and damage. It should also be noted that there are new, advanced, military shotgun slugs that can breach reinforced doors/locks, penetrate armor, and even explode like a small grenade. Now we just need an XM26 LSS, an AA-12, and some FRAG-12 grenades to shoot out of them. The un-informed should see this: http://www.defensereview.com/modules....sid=741
