    Damage Model

... PLEASE make the damage handling of vehicles a lot more realistic. Of note: 1) RPG's one-shotting anything that isn't a tank. RPGs don't work that way. I'm unsure of the destructive capacity of the LAW, but I doubt a hit to the armored parts of a Stryker would cause the whole thing to just erupt instantly. 2) HMMWVs and other light vehicles being deathtraps. It's entirely too common to have half the passengers sniped out of the car by light arms fire half a kilometer away. I'm sorry, are we driving around with the windows down? These things aren't exactly heavily armored, but they can withstand light arms fire to a fair degree and keep the passengers safe. This goes DOUBLE for the mounted weapon on the roof. FAR too vulnerable. 3) Helicopters taking damage from light arms fire. To make matters worse, it's very common to have a quick burst of enemy AK fire somehow rupture a fuel line, and the helicopter is effectively destroyed. That is ridiculous. Helicopters not only do not work that way, but they are DESIGNED to be resilient to small arms fire. Additionally, by show of hands, how many times have you seen your gunner killed by someone shooting at you from a mile away? Seriously, I feel safer on foot then in any vehicle in ArmA. Vehicle damage handling is the most asinine part of ArmA by far. A Stryker can be destroyed by .50cal fire, for god's sakes. Mk19s would do absolutely NOTHING to a tank except ruin the paint. Seriously. Don't do this crap again.

What You want as Anti-CHEAT in Armed Assault 2?

The only decent games are ever on the Tactical Gamer server so, yeah, I don't give a damn about random pubscrub servers :P

    Ai thread

Why are AIs in turrets so immensely stupid? When I have an AI gunning for my HMMWV, 99% of the time, even with the proper 'Engage at will' and 'Stay alert' orders, even when we're TAKING FIRE, they simply aim at the sky and do nothing. Seriously, what the fuck.

That's the thing, PunkBuster is pretty much the best solution, but it's really quite a shitty program. It has a very high false-positive detection rate and, as I pointed out, doesn't work with all hardware, and when it doesn't work, you can't play the game at all.

This is a sad but true fact of the modern military. Military games, for example, GRAW2, paint this picture that the US military is equipped with high-tech weapons and armor. The fact is, pretty much most of the military funding ISN'T going to the infantry corps, but instead is going to the USAF. Those shiny new F-22s? They're SUPPOSED to replace the F-15, which was originally designed to be phased out back in the 80s. The fact is, F-22s cost too much, and we can't even afford THOSE. The latest F-15 is the F-15E, and my best guess, working on that fine piece of crap, is that it'll still be in service at least up until 2020 - that's 50 years total for the F-15. However, what isn't known is that the F-15E is ONLY in service because DoD needed to buy them to keep McDonnell Douglas in business. It'd be a horrific blow to the economy to have them go under, so it was necessary to buy the aircraft. Military spending at its greatest. Personally I'd rather see ArmA2 be a joint-operations campaign. Focusing on one branch is pretty much impossible if you want to implement a wide variety of equipment. Hell they have C-130Js, and I'm pretty sure Air Mobility Command controls all those, so we've already failed.

That's funny, because I have about a dozen F-15 guys at our shop that came from Elmendorf who say differently. Who am I going to trust, the guys in the Air Force who were there, or a piece of sensationalist journalism that says "USAF PILOTS SUCk - SHOT DOWN BY 3RD WORLD NATION"?

NONE Anticheats cause MUCH more problems then they solve. Anticheats like VAC also give an excuse for a company to nearly illegally permanently deny me access to a product I purchased. Similar to why I think copy protection is an antiquated waste of money, the new SecuROM doesn't allow you to install the game more then X times. This is an age of 'how can we rape the consumer', and I simply don't want to see the possibility of the publisher stealing back MY purchase without a refund. Punkbuster, as well, has lots of issues. I was completely unable to play BF2 for nearly a month because Punkbuster would simply kick me because for some reason, a piece of my hardware wasn't responding properly (my video card had some bad RAM). So punk buster would kick me. For example, right now I'm running several ArmA mods. TrueView, DMSmokeEffects, SixPack, all of them have no effect on my gameplay but improve it in tiny ways that aren't 'cheating'. Under any anti-cheat I wouldn't be able to use these. Anti-cheating and copy-protection ends up being the same thing - a way for publishers and corporations to spy on my activities, install fingerprinting spyware, and create security vulnerabilities. No anti-cheat. A good spectator system and admin controls will be FAR more effective then anti-cheat. If your server can't field admins to be available for most of the day, you have no business running a server in the first place.

    ArmA 2 on Xbox 360

The one hope is that the PC version will be simply far more 'unlocked' and advanced. However, Microsoft doesn't allow dual-releases to differ in execution because they don't want their sales hurt because the PC release will be 'better'. In addition, downloadable content can NOT be free either. In the end, I just don't see why an Xbox version would be feasible or even smart to try. The Xbox crowd just isn't into these kinds of games, as the sales of Elite reflect that.

They're talking about aiming you noob. As for me being 'aggressive and elitist', you'd probably be too if a bunch of people who never gave a fuck about your hobby in the first place suddenly decided to change everything about it, destroy the reason you liked it in the first place, and THEN pretend like they've been lifelong enthusiasts. As far as I'm concerned, Xbox gamers are the fucking cancer that is the reason games have been such shit quality for the past few years. You tell ME why I'm bitter.

How do you managed it, to get that deep in trouble than? I spare my LAW`s for the tanks. I have no idea what you just tried to say. Fill up your trunk with LAW rockets, only takes one to down the tower. It's a tricky shot but it's possible.

I just can't find this very fun. It's great for a while but then it wears on me, because the numbers of AI that spawn are so ridiculously overwhelming it becomes WORK. I broke into the town and blew up the tower about 30 seconds later, and then managed to get corralled into a narrow alleyway. I basically holed up and held off the AI for well over an hour, and killed well over 75-100 AIs. I was getting tired of it, so I snuck out and blew up two or three tanks and some BMPs. All the while, KA-50 attack helos were strafing me (and amusingly enough, crashing into buildings on occasion) and at least once, the Flanker joined in on the fun. The AIs never stopped coming and eventually ArmA crashed. Secondly, the spy plane NEVER has shown anything on my map. Ever. Third, my save games STILL crash. And this rank thing just pisses me off. I'm trying to find out how to mod it out.

    DMSmokeEffects Beta 4

Great mod, but I have two suggestions. 1) The flames. Yeah. They look pretty bad. 2) While this is sorta fringe for your mod, it'd be nice to make the burning sound better / louder. Only reason I suggest this is because you have that microdebris sound so I figure it almost falls into the realm of your mod.

I love when civilians talk about what they don't understand and pass it off as fact. Cope India was an exercise that pitted USAF pilots against 3 times their numbers of Indian fighters. 12-4 odds. Secondly, the exercise had the USAF pilots flying less aggressively to simulate other hostile nation's air capabilities - meaning Iran. We have a bunch of guys at our shop right now who just came from Elemndorf, I'm sure they'd be happy to hear your opinions on our fighters.

Excuse me, but the whole 'ground combat' thing? That you say is all ArmA is about? That's DONE. It's conquered territory. The only other thing ArmA2 can have would be some sort of infantry damage model and first aid. All the rest of it? We're ALREADY THERE. There's not much more to the infantry game they can add. Maybe some minor shit like fast ropes, climbing, etc. Why not expand it in more directions? Make it as comprehensive a simulator as possible? Secondly, this isn't an 'infantry simulator with vehicles'. 1) Vehicles aren't secondary, rather, there's actually a pretty big reliance on them. 2) ArmA is specifically a COMBAT SIMULATOR. It doesn't say anything about INFANTRY SIMULATOR WITH VEHICLES. 3) How does a more advanced flight model hurt the infantry game in any way, shape, or form? If anything, it'll HELP them, because not every noob can hop in an A-10 and pulverize everything on the map. It's a COMBAT SIMULATOR. That said, for aircraft I'd like, at least on the American side as I don't know/care foreign aircraft at all: - A/A MIS: Either an F-16 or the F-35. F-35 just seems too 'exotic' to me, but since it's fundamentally just a harrier, well, why not? - A/G MIS: The good old fashioned F-15E. Trust me, this piece of shit's going to be around for at least another decade. Unfortunately for me. - CAS: I wouldn't mind keeping the A-10. This entirely depends if CAS is even needed, however. A GBU and a ground-borne laser or using a LANTIRN pod would be sufficient. Alternatively, to keep with ArmA's Harrier implementation, simply have an F-15C as the A/A MICAP fighter. It would be concievably more fair then having an F-35 vs. some ex-Soviet Union piece of crap. ArmA does NOT need to have 14 different aircraft for each side, however. K.I.S.S. In terms of complexity, no, I really don't need to have a fully operational LANTIRN nav pod and TF radar. A simple night-vision overlay on the HUD will simulate the effect aptly enough. I don't need to have the complex radar throttle controls either or an operational BIT page. I don't need to have my Band 3 C/O on my ICMS blow up like they do every god damn day in real life. On the plus side, if they did make it hyper-realistic, I'd have an advantage over everyone else as I already know how to operate every damn system on an F-15

    ArmA 2 on Xbox 360

Are you retarded? Do you know what 'wider audience' means? It means 'MAINSTREAM'. That means dumbing down the game, turning it into another god-damn Counter Strike. Maybe you were too dense to notice, but back in the day, back when PC games were PC GAMES and there was no such thing as 'dual releases', games were BETTER. It's a myth *and* a lie that PC games don't sell well. Dual-releases sell *MORE*, that's a fact, because you have a wider audience, obviously. However, PC games that were successfully and properly marketed and were actually, y'know, GOOD, have always sold very well. ArmA didn't sell very well because: 1) Absolutely zero marketing. I hadn't even HEARD of the game until I saw someone talking about it on one of my IRC channels. 2) It's a niche market game, as it's hyper-realistic and very complex with a steep learning curve. Niche games also mean a smaller market. If PC games always had poor sales, why the hell does John Romero have more money then god and was giving away a FERRARI as grand prize for some tournament? That won't even suffice. 'More controls' is just a slice of the pie, but the fact is that, whether it's true or not (personally I think it's true), publishers treat console gamers as slightly retarded kids with ADHD. There was a Penny Arcade strip a few months ago that had Gabe playing Halo 3, and his mind snapped and he suddenly started talking about how "Troy's parents are out of town so he's throwing a wicked kegger". That's the Xbox gamer 'image' that publishers have and make games that will appeal to that mentality. The "reading is for nerds" and "if it doesn't have tits and explosions its gay". Video games were better back in 2001, before the Xbox and PS2 'mainstreamed' gaming. Every game for the PC had depth, charm, and polish, and even games that didn't have polish ala Tribes 2, were simply absolutely fucking awesome games. I liken it to a classical music concert, when suddenly a bunch of greasy teenagers kick in the doors and start skateboarding around the stage, Linkin Park starts playing, and they start bitching about how Bach is 'gay' and 'boring'.

"More constructive"? Well excuse me for being a little pissed off after spending the time downloading and figuring out how to make this thing work only to find out that it makes the game ridiculously unplayable and that the little 'video' on the first post seems to be entirely faked. Beta implies the product is mostly done and needs polish. Beta is NOT a way to dodge criticism about a poor product or as an excuse for extremely slow progress. If you didn't want negative feedback why even release this? You had to know damn well what the response would be. This isn't beta. This is barely even alpha.

    Chammys Sound Mod

This mod is horrible. My breathing while running is louder then a TOW missile exploding 20 feet away from me. There could be a nuclear weapon exploding one town over and you'd never hear the damn thing. My own gunshots are about as loud as throwing a baseball into a sand dune. The irony is that the tagline is "When realism matters". Realism where, on the damn moon? In regards to music, why not just make it so we can add our own music instead of: 1) Bloating the install file with half a gig of some teenangsters shitty metal because it makes him feel like a rebel. 2) Making me listen to some 8 year old driving around whose favorite song is "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor".
