I had this bug too when playing in the editor in the harbour, I just thought it was a single instance but as you have proven there is a funny thing that happens there. Not sure its a mjor issue though really, not seen it in MP yet.

What settings would best suit my system?
thr0tt replied to David1054's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Try the new NVidia beta drivers, that seems to work for some with NV cards. Other than that it seems the engine has some issues with some systems (Phenoms don't fair well here) so until fixed 18+ is what you have to accept till patched. I get similar FPS btw although top frames are around 32 fps. -
Thats odd, I get a sort of invisible wall type effect in the menu sometime where I move my mouse and it seems like it is being blocked by something or fighting against something, never in game (yet). Do you have any other perpherals attached to your PC that could be auto centering ? Maybe unplug any non-essential devices like joystick / printers etc. just to test this out ? I know only ArmA 2 has this issue but some games I own I have to run a batch file to disable my joystick before running otherwise it thinks I am controlling movement with that. (If it is a perpheral I can show you my batch file etc. to help).

2 things, we knew that ArmA 1 took a long time to get to its current state, its not great but it works. I tried it for the first time for a few weeks and it runs like poo still even with the beta patch. 'We' hoped that BI would have taken all the things they learned from ArmA 1 and fixed them before releasing a new game using the same engine ? Is that too much to ask ? If you say that this is what we should expect from BI then no-one should buy their product on release but 2 years down the line once working, not sure how long a company can last if we all do this ? 2nd thing, this thread has been left open to keep all this crap in one place until it gets out of hand, then it will be closed, a new one will get created (either side of the argument) and it will all start over again, same stupid statements of 'It works for me and the world is rosey stop complaining everyone else' and 'It doesn't work for me so you are all losers' etc. Np's :) -

Sorry but you would be labelled under the "You wanted it. You got it. Now quit your whining. " crew. This is what this thread says to me, bascially I shouldn't mention problems or I am whining I should just put up or shut up. Maybe the OP should not have used such an emotive title for the thread and it could have been taken more in a friendly way ? -
Minor Bug - Fire / Petrol Stations
thr0tt replied to thr0tt's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
K, never noticed. Not a bug then just a feature. :) -
Shoot the petrol pumps in a petrol station (not too close or you will die from blast), once 'blown' then you are able to walk through fire with no effect on health. Destroy a whole petrol station up and you can do the same and walk through the burning building with no injury. Minor 'issue' in the scale of things, just thought I would post it here and let you know.

Exactly HotShot, this OP/thread is the same rant different foot as such. Fantastic that folk enjoy the game and have it working just the way they want, I am happy for these people and would really too like to join their ranks of enjoyment but due to issues beyond mine or any other community members ability here I am unable to which is a real pity as this game has huge potential. No amount of dismissing these problems is going to make it run any better or lose the show stopping bugs. -

8Gb is the problem with ATi cards!
thr0tt replied to soldier1969's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Indeed, it fixes the problem with 8GB of ram if you use the search function you will see there is a host of posts just to do with this issue. It is not the same as the graphical artifacts affecting ATI cards. If only your could change the title of your post to "8Gb is a problem... " not THE problem etc. -
Minor Bug - Fire / Petrol Stations
thr0tt replied to thr0tt's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Walk next to a burning vehicle and you will eventually die, not noticed this next to buildings before so as you say it could be as intended. -
ROFL ! They never have and never will give you a progress report or even state what they are working to fix as it would be more hassle than its worth. Imagine if the bug or issue you had wasn't in their update ? Wow, it would really hit the fan from those folk etc. Nice question but the answer will be 'when its done it will get released' etc.

Money unfortunately not well spent
thr0tt replied to jakal66's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Without these threads then folk may think there is no issue with the game, no issue with performance and all is well. Not only would be new players but BI themselves, as this can be the only feedback they get from the real world and not just praise and love from the fanboys out there who just love the game no matter what state. The OP here shows the frustration that many feel and articulates it better than many so worthwhile. -
How to enable Hardware Acceleration (Soundcard)
thr0tt replied to Stauff's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes, but if it makes you feel better then do it. I hear changing it to 3 gives you a perceived performance boost and the game 'feels' better, admitadly it does absolutely sqaut but on the other hand if it doesn't harm your system it may be the cure for cancer surely ? -

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb669181(VS.85).aspx ...and somewhere in German here they mention that it uses this sound engine http://hx3.de/technische-fragen-probleme-162/hardware-sound-dolby-digital-16467/#post238628 I get 5.1 sound and it works well (one thing that does). -
bad graphics performance - BiS confirm?
thr0tt replied to 7SD-Toker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
...in the next message posted, lol. Point demonstrated gj. Heres an idea, why not start another sub forum for those who have no issues and just want to tell others ? There is always 1 or 2 posts in a trouble seeking thread saying 'mine works fine' whereas you are looking for answers to issues not statements that it works for you. -

thr0tt replied to Stauff's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Check out the Arma2 Other Profiles directory and change it in your username.cfg file i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\<Gaming Name> GamingName.ArmA2Profile And find: soundEnableEAX=0; soundEnableHW=0; ...and change 0 - 1 if you like. -
bad graphics performance - BiS confirm?
thr0tt replied to 7SD-Toker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
20 months left before its playable, cool. -
Setting priority to realtime will have a detrimental effect on other processes running on your system and may even prevent you from playing online. I still think tweaking the game / engine is the only way for this terrible performance to get any better and not making system changes, overclocking to 7Ghz, liquid nitrogen cooling the GPU and running in a dust and air free environment. When the game runs it looks great and in some areas you can even get decent frame rates, it is such a shame as it could have been the best game of 2009.

graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
thr0tt replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Indeed Cat 9.7 latest leak do not fix ArmA 2's graphical artifact issues in XP. If BIS need any testers with pre-patch releases and would like me to enter into a NDA I am happy to assist. PM me if you wish to progress. -
graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
thr0tt replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes. Tried virtually all settings to increase / reduce any memory variable in all the config available to us. Its on one of the pages in this thread. btw, you may have pointed out the VRAM filling up issue but did you post pretty graphs ? no ! lol :D hehe. If only there was a command to stop this happenning much like in GTA4 with commandline.txt where you can stop the amount of gfx ram is used (fixes a major issue with GTA4 for many). -
Wow, nice bug report. No doubt it will be ignored but good effort.
