graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
thr0tt replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Very interesting, I have had a few dots but nothing as bad as that. Sometimes I get a few square pixels just off screen as I turn in busy towns but they are def. text load failures. Those small dots do not look like the original post that this thread is about, so I can suggest checking to see if the card is overheating and cleaning the fan out / reseating the card (in joke :D lol). -
Could this be possibly the best game in history?
thr0tt replied to TheMonster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Wow, unless this is a blatent trap for those who have issue and a way to force them to call you names you sir are not very informed to be it politely. My naughty PC has been good to every other title I own and I am one of those adicted PC gamers who buys almost every new release (wife makes me buy her stuff in return!) I like the sound of. So, if my PC is now being bad (I only assume you blaming the PC believe it is a being of sorts, your words btw) then why has it chosen this one out of the so many I own ? Very odd. But, to answer the question posed, then yes this could have been the best game to date in the tactical FPS genre if it was not faulty. Now questioning if it is the best 'game' in histroy I think you will find some driving game fans, flight sim fans, console kiddies etc. have a different list of game to add to the competition. -
LocalVram - has anyone figured this out?
thr0tt replied to nuggetz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Local is gfx card, nonlocal is the pagefile as stated above. Changing these has no effect on the game. -
Fps Issue-Performance is not affected by quality at all
thr0tt replied to LiFesAgAme's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
So many topics with the same questions and fewer answers, feel free to search and you too can add to the page count on these. I do like the way you state you now have your 'legal' copy, fascinating. -
I did exactly the same but was surfing pr0n, woke up later with tissues all stuck to my belly not knowing if wife had caught me. Should I see a doctor too or not surf late into the night ? Any suggestions would be useful ;)

See you in troubleshooting soon. xx

is my system powerful enough for arma2?
thr0tt replied to BronzeEagle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
He's right you know. To date there is no known system that ArmA II is guaranteed to work on, it is all lucky dip. You could try the demo but that differs from the full game and proven that if the demo works you are not guaranteed to get the full game working. Its a design feature lucky dip processing engine. Good luck is all I can say. -
The only way to get the game running smooth is by luck or get the system built by BI, as there are so many folk here that cannot get it working as it should here but the lucky ones can (some with exactly the sme setup cannot). I suggest BI sell an ArmA II PC that they tested the game on b4 sending you the machine, I would say no point buying more hardware seems a bit extreme really.

graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
thr0tt replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Windows managed pagefile will be 1.5 times your installed RAM, this is normal XP behaviour. Mine is moved to another SATA drive that has nothing on it at all and it makes no difference to the game. -
No chance. But nice try.

My hope is this is just a tiny idea of some of the minor stuff worked on in the patch. It could be some sort of joke especially the 'fixed flares' line I mean lol ! Anyways, lets hope that the 1.03 miracle patch is just that, if not then hey ho, we wait for the next game to come along and just ignore this studio for any future releases which will be released in exactly the same fashion which has been proven.

Engine problem, how much graphical corruption or bugs are you getting ? -

If you don't want tearing then you need to have vsync on, that way your FPS will be 'locked' to your maximum refresh rate (60 is you are using LCD normally). Maybe you are getting confused as to the issue here in this thread ? This one is about graphical corruption not vsync problems. No offense. :) -
Some genuine patch 1.03 information
thr0tt replied to {SAS}Silentkiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I am taking bets on how long before this thread turns into a massive brawl over fixes which are not shown in the less than comprehensive list Placebo has posted. Still at least you can change the flares now, that one has really got me in a tizzy. -
TRSM Tracked Vehicles Sound mod (WSS+signed update)
thr0tt replied to TangoRomeo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
So, to use this mod do I need to upack it, repack it, add config files and modify bits or is the download ok just to use ? -
Yoma, do you have any other games that have this issue ? If you do then fair enough keep searching and I hope something is found to help otherwise why don't we wait for BI to fix the streaming engine and getting it to increase its game cache or whatever it is that 'streams' which would mean no need for any of us to build super computers just to run a single faulty game. just a thought. Ta for the reply on the Sync Tool btw. Its the best launcher and tool out there and I tried a few :)

http://www.theeldergeek.com/paging_file.htm I wouldn't worry about modifying what windows does with it tbh, I have never gained or lost performance when tweaking the pagefile. Tried static min / max, no pagefile, massive pagefile and now have it on another disk, it makes absolutely no difference. Just leave it as Windows manages it.

Patch 1.03.3768 Changelog: * Fixed: Some issues. * Fixed: Some bugs. * Added: Not much but an option to enable and disable it. * Multiplayer: Removed receiving message. This has been replaced with some random dots counting up.... sometimes down but have no relation to the game loading but we thought it would be nice to watch. * Campaign: This has been revamped, it is now a single linear mission to walk to the end of the airfield without crashing, then you win, simple but you will get satisfaction once complete.

Your hard disk caches the information. You will see exactly the same improvement in many other games when running bunchmarks, that is why the first test is normally discarded, 2nd and 3rd tests are probably the ones that get reported. I like tweaking, running the test once, if I can get better frames on the first pass only then that is where the gains are. Sure, I can run it a few times and I get a few hundred points difference in ArmAMark II but that is not what I want, I need to be able to go to an area and get solid FPS immediately.

Cornstar, please also post specs otherwise we don't know on what system you have / GPU etc., thanks for input. -

...and I use AGP and also have the issue so that covers all the bus options. Are we going to get back on to overclocking and overheating I wonder ? -
Having troubles getting past 30 fps during multiplayer sessions. Q9550/GTX295
thr0tt replied to Soliex's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Maybe the FPS reporting is wrong and in fact you are getting 100+fps :D ....nah, its reported elsewhere but wait for the 'why do you need more than xx fps' etc. -
Removal of all buildings possible ?
thr0tt posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
As the title says, once there are mod tools available is it possible to make a copy of the existing island and just remove all the buildings only ? For me, the only major slow down is in or around towns so a more err natural island with no buildings would work pretty well with maybe some vegetation where towns or cities once stood ? -

K, thanks. So will have to create a new island of sorts.
