  1. lol, only playing with you, its a matter of choice if folk use it or not. Personally I would like yo see all the effects in the game usable by everyone but if they are not then mods like these can help folk get rid of them. Some games don't give you the option to remove the effects and that way the playing field is equal, if your sight is blurred due to granade or fatigue on one side and someone modded all the 'negative' affects out then in a competetive game you would lose out. If there is an in game option to turn off grass then most likely people will use it as it gives them an advantage etc. but as all the pp effects are optional and not forced server side then I guess this is purely a graphical nice to have. I am glad I can run it all on high now with AA to normal, before I too had to disable all PP effects. :) Now, can you make me and me alone a mod that helps me shoot straight ? ;)

Arma II is going on the shelf...

Did you manage to create a config for FSX where the screen doesn't exhibit tearing ? I have tried everything and I still get a weird texture type tear similar to vsync off but not as bad. PM me your tweaked config if you managed it please :)
  3. Cool, we just need a mod now to play the game like it was meant to be played, wireframe, that way there is no distraction from these 'features' or graphics that can be so off putting in a milsim.
  4. Came across an odd thing, not sure if its a bug and it only happened once as yet but riding a motorbike across the airfield then all of a sudden a large bang and smoke, could be a tyre blowing but it was a bit extreme. Map was editor with only me on it btw.
  5. If they wanted this sponsorship then they should have sorted it out before releasing the game, there is no way a vendor will sponsor the game after its market release. If you feel BI are needing more of your money then just buy extra copies of the game from them. I am sure they have posted somewhere where they make the most profit in which game version you buy, failing that just send them some cash, I am sure they would appreciate that.
  6. Artifacts happened on release, patching has made no difference either way. Patch to 1.04 then head over to the beta testing area and get the latest beta.
  7. New system spec below, 60fps dips to 31 occassionally in some areas and while looking at forest canopy. In game settings from left to right: VD 3500 1650x1650 3D & Interface Normal High High Normal High Very High High Normal So far I have had no graphical corruption as per my original issue with this game, this means my issue was not related to my XP installation as I removed all the drivers and put in new mobo then loaded up new drivers so I have the same XP install (diff drivers I know), I also have Windows 7 installed on a different disk, same spec as primary disk and both operating system appear to run the same with Arma II. 1 FPS killer I noticed is if you drive a busted tank and use 3rd person view, when it starts moving and a cloud of black smoke come out the rear it really knocks the system for six, like 2 fps, this is def an issue with this event not gfx or cpu related. Now, Dwarden, if you want to buy my old HD3850 AGP and mobo then I am open to offers for your new AGP 'test' system to fix the issue for the other folk out there who still have an issue. Or, I could build it in a spare case I have with a fresh XP install and do some testing if I have time.
  8. Best thing to do is ignore all the tests and the 80+ page sticky about graphical corruption to start your new thread discussing what has already been discussed and failing. Cool. I may start a new thread about graphical corruption and the way I think it has to be your card overheating then going through all the types of cooling systems everyone has only to find that has nothing to do with it. Still passes the time while BIS are hard at work fixing the issue. Saying all that, if it helps get to the bottom of the issue then start as many threads as possible with all the different 'things' it could be. Tomorrow I will find out if my motherboard / RAM and GPU are anything to do with the issue as I upgrade to PCI-e at last and get an HD5850 along with some DDR3. The drives should also perform better as the current mobo is only SATA I and new is SATA II (drives are SATA II btw so been running slow transfer).
  9. Getting a new mobo shortly including an ATI HD5850, if i cba I will reinstall ArmA2 and see if the fault still occurs with that setup. Still going to be XP and may have a Win7 partition as I can't afford the o/s atm so will use the RC.
  10. I think we should flood the boards with more of these types of guesses as they really help. My turn. The lack of beta patches lately is probably because the server is full and there is no more space for it. The competition is now open to your guess good luck.
  11. Simple question gets attacked, nice work, unless this is reverse psychology and you are in the troll looking for feeding ?
  12. It does improve the FPS but noticed that Steal the Car mission half the trees were floating 20ft in the air. Good start and maybe a good pointer to help get some frames back. Buildings would be a good one.
  13. Runs like arse here. Mind you my spec is below the recomended. No beta patches for a while, could be a good thing... or they are all AFK :S

    ArmA 2 I/O analysis results

I would like to see how original unpatched ArmA 1 deals with it as I think this way of streaming was added in a much later patch, that would determine if this a design decision to get performance for some and effect other in a more diverse way like the graphical corruption type issues.
  15. Everyone with the issue please PM Dwarden who has kindly offered to look into this, his post is buried a few pages back with the requirements. BIS are unable to replicate this problem and as such will not be able to fix it, they need information and tests I would assume run by those of us who have the issue. There is currently no work around known to date, there is no fix, please PM Dwarden to get things rolling. Here:
  16. lol. ...and maybe a 'Christmas patch' too that has a snow version of the islands ? Last beta had poor performance for many, 210 was the better one but still far off from being a performance patch unless they release a series of patches that cripple the game more then undo it with a 'performance' patch ? Still, happy to beta test the next patch when it comes.
  17. Is it me or in the past couple of weeks we have had more pirates post here stating their love for ArmA yet they love to admit to pirating games and what not ? I mean, because folk say they pirate all 'other' games etc. but didn't pirate this one how are we to believe this and they are all honest now ? I stupidly bought 2 copies of ArmA II, download from Morphicon and the UK DVD version, now I may be more stupid that the pirate poster for posting that fact. :/
  18. 210 works best for me, 323 had a very negative effect on performance. I thought a performance patch was in the works or is this still a pipe dream ?

    Congratulations BI!!!!!

I am sorry but surely illegally downloading a game to 'try b4 u buy' or download a movie to 'watch before you rent' etc. is illegal even if your intention is to buy ? I am no law student but almost certain that is the way the law is in many countries. Whats to say you aren't currently using an illegal version of ArmA II or seeding a copy you 'deleted' ? Good luck.

    Congratulations BI!!!!!

Oh ok, my mistake, it was just the OP starts off by saying OF:DR and CM has stolen the name but doesn't have the same etc. which to me was making the reference to OF:DR and not just praising the fantastic work that BIS do on their very nearly perfect game ArmA II. Ok, I will sign this too, great work BIS in making games.

    Congratulations BI!!!!!

Shouldn't this thread be in the other CM OPF: DR thread like all the other threads comparing the 2 games ?
  22. There is nothing wrong with the game, BIS have already stated that this fault only occurs on a 'few' machines so not worth bothering about. If you are experiencing the problem with the best CPU and GPU and memory in your PC then it must be the area you live in thats the issue, there is nothing wrong with the code in the game, may be worth trying another game in the mean time.
  23. Just wondering how many folk have reduced the amount of hours put into this game since its release ? Personally I was trying to play this every chance I got and most the weekend spare time I got was to play this game, this has now changed and I only dip in and out every 1-2 weeks. Not sure if its due to the bugs, performance etc. or what but feel that I don't have the time to find a game, try and tweak the settings to match the server to get a smoothish gameplay experience and find a team to play with etc. I've even spent more time now on Fallout 3 which feel much vaster. I do hope that the expansion will bring my interested back next year or a wonder patch to give a performance boost but as already stated by BIS my system will just not cut it.
  24. There is a mod I believe that will increase grass distance but why do you think it is only rendered in a certain circuference ? Performance... increase everything add lots more objects etc. and the performance will be even more dyre than it is now.
  25. It is one of the many many bugs that appear on ATI GPU's that BI appear to ignore. The main issue though is a massive graphical corruption that makes it look like an overheating problem although proven time and time again its nothing to do with heat but a code problem.
