Well we finally got ours working and I thought I would come back here to report what was causing our problem, just in case this happens to anyone else. Our first mistake was using the stars in our clan tags "*TLC*". The stars must conflict somehow with the way the file is read. Drako over at MDx figured that one out and corrected the files and had it working on his site, but for some reason it still wasn't working on ours. Today he figured out that we had different users on the server using different URL's to the squad.xml; as we were trying to test different hosters to see where the problem laid. Well it turned out to be just that. When you have two or more players calling the same XML file from two different locations it causes the server to only pull the XML info and somehow blocks the picture from being shown. I had all my guys change the squad info back to our original URL, restarted the server, and BOOYAA!!! Squad logo now showing on all vehicles and arm patch is working. I would have never figured this one out. THANK YOU Drako SO MUCH - YOU 'DA MAN - We are new to ArmA/OFP and the help we have received so far from the community has been outstanding to say the least. This is not an easy game on the backend if you are new to it, and it's good to see people willing to help those of us that are new to the community. Thanks again Drako, really appreciate the help.

Brok3n -Not sure what you mean by not public FTP? This all should pull pull through http. Not sure what FTP has anything to do with it. But we did create the Arma folder under our public HTML directory if that's what you were talking about. Sgt Major - yep we have the right path under our player profiles to each site we tried to host the files. Not sure what could be our problem, I've even had our web guy comb the script files and he can't figure out why it's not working, now he's more frustrated than me LOL.

Still not getting it, but narrowing the possibilities of what it can be. Drako took a look at our files, he made some edits, and uploaded them on his webpage and all worked well. But when I take the files he sent us and uploaded them on three different hosting accounts, the picture never showed. So I'm guessing that something is not setup right on the hosting accounts we've tried. We created a folder in the public html directory and placed the files in that directory. Does anyone know what we could be doing wrong? We know the graphic files and XML work, because Drako had it working on his account. We just can't seem to figure what the difference is between the hosting accounts. I saw a post where someone said that they had to edit the XML directory, could this have anything to do with the problem? Thanks for any help in advance.

I have been working on getting our server configured with the right options for the past couple of days and still running into the same problems. I setup a server profile to read my armaprofile with all the options we want, but the server seems to only read part of it, making me think I'm doing something wrong. I followed what others have said in the "Disabling 3rd person" topic and have searched the forums and wiki looking for what I am doing wrong, but still am having the same problems. Same of the options are working but others are not. At first I set the server to Veteran mode wanting the weapon crosshairs gone and some of the other options turned off, but some of our players were unhappy about not having the map options and friendly tags, so I figured that I could just set it to regular and turn off the weapon cursor and some of the other things I didn't want, but for some reason it's not reading my profile correctly. I got the map options back and the crosshairs turned off but I cannot see friendly tags. This is kind of important, because it helps figuring out who you are working with and it helps to know who to kick when people are being idiots. Could friendly tags be linked to some other option I have turned off? Here is what I have done so far: I created a folder called "users" in my Arma Folder and a folder under that called TLC. The shortcut reads as follows: "D:\Program files\Arma 106\ArmA_Server.exe" -name=TLC "-profiles=D:\Program files\Arma 106\users\TLC" -config=server.cfg Once I launched it the first time I saw the folders that Arma created in the TLC folder D:\Program files\Arma 106\users\TLC\Users\TLC D:\Program files\Arma 106\users\TLC\Users\Administrator I edited the TLC.ArmaProfile in the TLC folder as follows: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">version=2; blood=2; viewDistance=3000; terrainGrid=3.125000; volumeCD=7; volumeFX=7; volumeSpeech=7; singleVoice=0; playerVoice=0; gamma=1.000000; brightness=1.000000; fovTop=0.750000; fovLeft=1.000000; uiTopLeftX=0.000000; uiTopLeftY=0.000000; uiBottomRightX=1.000000; uiBottomRightY=1.000000; sceneComplexity=300000.000000; shadingQuality=7; shadowQuality=2; soundEnableEAX=1; soundEnableHW=0; difficultyMP="regular"; class Difficulties { class regular { class Flags { Armor=1; FriendlyTag=1; EnemyTag=0; HUD=1; HUDPerm=1; HUDWp=1; HUDWpPerm=1; WeaponCursor=0; AutoAim=1; AutoGuideAT=0; 3rdPersonView=1; ClockIndicator=0; Map=1; Tracers=1; AutoSpot=0; UltraAI=0; UnlimitedSaves=0; }; skillFriendly=0.750000; skillEnemy=0.600000; precisionFriendly=0.750000; precisionEnemy=0.600000; }; class veteran { class Flags { HUD=1; HUDWp=1; HUDWpPerm=1; WeaponCursor=0; AutoAim=1; AutoGuideAT=0; ClockIndicator=0; 3rdPersonView=1; Tracers=1; AutoSpot=0; UltraAI=0; }; skillFriendly=0.850000; skillEnemy=0.850000; precisionFriendly=0.850000; precisionEnemy=0.850000; }; }; showTitles=1; showRadio=1; I also copied in my Arma.cfg which looks like this: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=9615.000000; Resolution_W=800; Resolution_H=600; Resolution_Bpp=32; MaxMsgSend = 256; //Help Minimize Lag MinBandwidth = 1024000; //Help Minimize Lag Everything seems to be working the way I want it, except for the fact that we cannot see friendly tags anymore and the only way I can get it to work is to roll it back to default which makes the cross hairs come back which drive me crazy I'm sure I am doing something wrong, I am new to the ARMA/OFP series, but I have been managing gaming servers for quite some time, so a nudge in the right direction would help greatly. Thanks in advance for tips or suggestions you can offer.

LOL that's for sure, no hosting company in the world is offering Gbit access. Gl33k is right, you have a Gbit ethernet card in your box. Log into your server and go to DSL reports and do their speed tests to different servers around the country and you'll get an idea of what your transfer rate is.

That's stupid, why would they make those dependent on one another? Is there any kind of post or wiki on profile options and their dependencies? It will save us server admins much time troubleshooting why things are not working the way we set them to be. PLEASE FIX BIS! Without friendly tags how do you know who you are working with in close proximity? Or how do you tell who is being an asshat on the server to kick/ban? You telling me the only way to do this is to enable those horrible cross hairs? I hate cross hairs, nothing realistic about that. When will gaming companies quit making games with them? Especially when they sell them as realistic tactical shooters. Hopefully by the time 1.07 goes final this can be corrected.

I created and manage a non-profit game server company back in December called (TLCservers) that our community created to fund our game servers and to help other communities keep their cost of server rentals low. Once we start to turn a profit, all proceeds will be going to charity. We were looking forward to offering low cost servers in the US for ArmA, but after getting ours online I can't see how we are going to be able to do it. Right now we host a couple of COD2 servers for different clans, and those servers only eat up between 2-60MB's of memory and barely touch the CPU's when active, but Arma starts out at 280MB of memory before anyone connects and goes up from there and it eats up CPU processes like an Ethiopian at a chicken wing eating contest. The box we rent from The Planet has a dual core Intel Xeon 2.4 Ghz processor with 2GB's of RAM and a 10MB Up and 10MB down connection with 10 IP's. Even if I shutdown all the COD2 servers I can't see us getting another Arma server running stable on that box. If you could get two Arma servers on the same box running stable the cost of rental would be at least $100 month and that is not making one cent profit since we pay $200 month per server. As Arma runs now, I doubt we could offer servers for it and turn any kind of profit. I am looking at getting another box or two for the east and west coasts, but I need to know that I can get at least 3 ArmA servers per box to run stable or else the servers would cost at least $125/month which to me is way too high for a game server. With 3 running on a box I can see the pricing for a 24 man server being much more in line with what I think is fair. Charging that kind of money you should be able to open up the server to all it can handle, not just 20 or so slots. I rent 64 player COD2 servers for less than $100/month with VOIP and some other extra's but with the way ArmA runs now, I can't see us being able to stick to our motto of offering "low cost" servers to the community so we will probably not rent them until something changes. If a game can't run at an affordable price we don't offer it. Keep checking our site or better yet, check our forums over at Tactical Leaders to see if and when we expect to be able to offer servers for ArmA at a reasonable price.

I have noticed this as well, but am having my own issues getting my server to read the profile I have set correctly, so I'm not sure if the problem is on my end, or something has changed from 1.05 to the present version, but I am getting wasted a lot more when flying than I used to.

I run my settings at 1680*1050 with everything set to high or very high, and I'm pulling 40 FPS on average. BIS guys - thanks for the hotfix, all my LOD problems are pretty much solved. I get a texture flicker every now and then but its way better than it was with 5154. Thanks for responding to our issues so quickly. I only played it for a hour or so because of the joystick button mapping issues, but the texture problems I was having seem to have been fixed. Keep up the outstanding work!!

The beta is running as a mod as not to mess with your version that is working. The shortcut needs the mod reference so it knows to look in the right folder when starting the game. That way our 1.06 or 1.05 versions don't get screwed up. When 1.07 goes final it will launch as normal.

We're still not getting it right, but I believe we are getting closer. The paa is no longer crashing the TexView Software, but when we open it, it's showing up as a gray box, when we uncheck the alpha channel, it shows the image. When we save it to PAA and upload the image it does not show on the vehicles in game. We're thinking that we are choosing the wrong options when we are trying to save the file. What options are you all selecting when saving the paa file?
-
It happens to me and my mates alot. Very frustrating. Most times we have to disconnect and rejoin to get it to go away. Can't wait for this one to be fixed.
-
Awesome, thanks for the info Drako and to the others that have provided info as well. Spider and I have been trying to get it working but still haven't gotten the image to show up in game on any vehicles. We will go over this info and see if we can get it working. I knew some info had to be missing because our image showed up on the webpage, but not in game and we never saw a reference to the PNG. We couldn't figure out how the web page was pulling it, but the paa wasn't showing up in game. This should fix our problems. We will try this out and report back once we have it working. Thanks again.

Does anyone know where to get TexView at? The only place I can find it is here: TexView But the download link is a dead link. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
Thanks guys, I'll take your advise and try again. I'll let you know what I screwed when I get it fixed to help others to avoid my mistakes. I was using a PAA plugin for photoshop, so maybe it does something different to the file than TexView.

www.clearmysix.com/arma/squad.xml Thanks for taking a look. I can send you the png/paa files if needed. The PNG shows on the link, but the paa is not showing on vehicles in game.

How to apply a patch to a dedicated server
TLC-Smokey replied to Rambo-16AAB's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Everything on the server is a default install, no addons no custom anything. I have created the registry entry as it appears on my computer, but it still gives me the same error. What do you think of my idea of uploading the contents of the DVD so that I can install the game on the server avoiding the need of future uploading? Do you think I will get errors for not having the disk in the drive? -

Bump Anyone? -
Tactical Leaders *TLC*, US http://www.TacticalLeaders.com Status: We are currently looking for mature ArmA players that like to play as a team, lonewolvers need not apply. We're a group of older guys mostly 30+ that love tactical gaming. We have our own dedicated box and host servers for other gaming communities.

I have been trying to get this thing to work for a couple of days now, but I cannot get the image to show. It's reading the xml file correctly because when you hit P ingame you can see our info and the words Tactical Leaders appears on the vehicles, but the image is not showing up. I have followed the wiki on how to create the image and setup the files and all, but for some reason it's not reading the paa file. Any other suggestions on the particulars of the graphic file that isn't covered in this? http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/squad.xml Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

How to apply a patch to a dedicated server
TLC-Smokey replied to Rambo-16AAB's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I am having the same issue. I created the registry key and recreated the entire structure of the key as it is on my PC, except the path that it is actually installed to (different path on my server). And the error I receive is as follows. "Arma: Armed Assault is not installed on your computer or the installation is corrupted." The version that is currently uploaded to the server is the 1.05 Sprocket if it makes a difference. My server runs Windows Server 2003. - Now my question is where to go from here. I ordered the US DVD 1.06 version that I will be getting on Monday. Should I install a fresh copy of 1.06 and patch my local machine and upload back to the server? OR - Can I just upload the contents of the DVD to the server so that I can just run the install, avoiding this problem in the future? Will this method work or will I run into a problem with not having the disk in the drive? I have accepted the fact that i must upload everything again, but I was hoping that I could avoid having to do this in the future by installing it directly on my dedicated box. I don't want to waste time uploading the entire DVD and have it not work, only having the upload my patched install after. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
How to apply a patch to a dedicated server
TLC-Smokey replied to Rambo-16AAB's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I totally agree!! It's absolutely ridiculous. It's going to take me two days to upload this everytime they release a patch. I can't remember the last time I had to do that with a game. -
I can't get the squad image to work at all. It's reading the data in the XML file, but doesn't pull the picture. I read through the wiki on it, but I'm not sure if there is something with the picture file that I'm not doing right. I can't find too much information out there about using it.

Thank you, I believe that solved my problems. I'm a happy Arma junkie again!!! Update: I'm not a happy Arma junkie again The texture problems are still happening no matter what I set it to 8, 16, 32. I have figured out that when the problem happens if I change resolutions and then change back everything is fine, but it keeps reoccuring multiple times an hour. Sometimes it crashes the game, so it's not a great work around. Also I have noticed that when these problems happen the action menu becomes unusable. I can open it up but scrolling my mouse wheel does nothing, which makes getting in or out of vehicles quite frustrating.

mine errored out on Campaigns/Ca/pbo, but finished successfully. Everything works fine except the texture problem myself and other 8800GTX owners are having. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....1067067
