I have played a couple of MP games and they were just pointless. Everyone is a rambo and you have the usual w*nkers sitting in a bush for the entire round popping players off. I want to play on TS with a team but I don't want to have to join clan or something like that. They all take it so damn seriously, it's boring, this is a game, nothing more. Just wanna have coordinated game play because without it ARMA MP is dead boring, unless you like Vehicles, which bore me to death.

How do i get maxmem=512 to work on 1.05 beta patch
Talbot replied to kiwi1234's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Mine looks like: START "" /D"%CD%" /B "%CD%\beta\arma.exe" -mod=beta -nosplash -maxmem=512 I haven't checked to see if its using more RAM than specified but the issues I had with the textures and crashes just vanished. -
I'm running the 1.05 Beta. I will try and make a video, maybe its just the way war is... but it confuses the hell out of me because I can never ever tell which way anything is coming from, especially vehicles. So I end up running straight toward danger without even realising it giving some camping b*stard the satisfaction popping me one. Helicopter sounds are more or less perfect, they sound distant when distant and loud when flying over my head... all good.

I pretty much did that and my graphical and crash problems have all but vanished. Have you tried taking out the FDF Mod line? -
I forgot to mention I had tried them as well when I was diagnosing my crashing problem which is fixed now.

When playing MP games (or even SP games for that matter) the sound seems to be totally screwed up. Tanks sounds like they're about 10 metres from me yet they are in fact a good 500. When I'm shot from a distance, it sounds like I'm being shot from about 2 metres away. When I turn my back on tanks, the sound goes muffled... its as if the sound doesn't know if its coming or going. Running a Creative X-FI Extreme Sound Card with the latest drivers. I have turned EAX off both in-game and on the audio control panel. Hardware Acceleration has been turned off in-game... it seems to change the way the sound operates but doesn't change the basic principle that a tank sounds like its 10 metres away when in fact its on the other side of the sodding battlefield.

A batch file is (mostly) just a text file where each line of text is executed as a command (exactly as if you had typed it manually). Open the batch file in any text editor and you will figure it out You have made me feel a bit stupid, thanks a lot. (Done it, cheers).

attention, I received a warning for this kind of comment!! I've been having the same problem but what adds insult to injury was the fact that the game would crash randomly and give me some retarded error. However, for some reason, after adding -maxmem= 512 to the command line .exe short cut I played for 4 hours and had absolutely no crashes and no texture distortion. This was suggested to me by.... I forgot... someone clever. This was with the original 1.5, not the beta. I can't figure out how to get -maxmem=512 working with that batch file. I have probably jinxed it now and it will start crashing and giving me the texture bug again.

run in windowed mode in Vista should fix this... add to the commandline of arma shortcut: -x=1024 -y=768 -window replace 1024 and 768 with the resolution you wish. Yep, thanks Gonk. I managed to get the maxmen thing working with the original shortcut .exe but how do I get the resolution command line and the maxmem working with the beta batch file? Adding -maxmen etc to the end of the command line for the batch file does not work. Moderator edit: Do not include pictures in your replies.

This has worked, thanks. Well... at least it works with the original 1.05 but how do you force the batch file for the Beta to use it? And what does maxmem actually do?
-
Yes, I started it with the Batch file. Wish there was someone else getting the SAME error message.

Just crashed again. Was running perfectly through the third or fourth mission in the campaign. I reverted, saved and loaded several times. I had shot all the convoy soldiers when a script was loaded and the game crashed with the error. Gonna try that short cut addition, see if that helps.

If I hadn't have installed DX then I don't think the game would have loaded at all. Probably try that anyway. I have DX 10 installed, is that a problem? It runs more or less perfectly for a while but then randomly drops to desktop with the above error.

Seriously getting tired of this error....
