    Confirmed release dates and countries.

There is neither a french nor an english version at this time, so any copy of ArmA sold in Switzerland will be german.

    German Version out!

No, but we talked to 505, the UK version will have diffrent radio chatter. Instead of orders, the soldiers will be telling jokes about the huns in a random order  Also the "sprint" animation and speed will be changed to the walk made by john cleese in fawlty towers -------------------------------- on topic: I'll be in heaven when I get my SE this week. Hope it gets here tomorrow or thursdays, that depends on the lazyness of the german post. Also I can't understand why morphicon should be the wrong choice. So far they've done a really good job, for example by letting the community order the SE first or answering questions from the fans (they mostly were answered the same day - someone mentioned, 505 wasn't so quick... in fact, they didn't reply to his mail)

    First ARMA impressions

There are so few people that want to buy ArmA, that the game is on 11th place in Amazon.de hitlist for games... If you add filter for PC Games, its 6th place... Yes, I know many of those sales are from european players - but still it seems, that ArmA is selling very well in germany.

    Performance Tweaking Experiences

You need to give the people some time to test the values. For me, I have to wait til thursday or maybe friday for my SE and my new hardware to arrive, before I can tell you how that tweak works out for me. Wonder what value might be right for 1 Gig of ram?

    Balschoiw goes Gamestar

2 questions we had in our IRC chan: - could you test if the radio queue will still prevent the AI from following your orders? (like you're in a tank in the heat of battle and AI is reporting "T72 12 o'clock, 200, BMP 11 o'clock 500..." ect. and while the AI is talking, you can't give commands to your gunner or driver, that was really annoying in OFP) - could you look, if there is an option to turn off the "beep-beep" after a radio command? thx in advance

    ArmA Progress Updates

"Ich möchte diesen Teppich nicht kaufen. Bitte." ----------------------------------------------- Can't wait for news on the german special edition, as my friends will buy me that one as a birthday present  And well - gonna need to buy me a new PC now, the old one will only meet minimum specs Â

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

I think the pope would play the german version But seeing that list it is quite clear, why 505 plans for Q1 2007 - all those countries need a localised version of the game text, thats some effort too... And IMO they are just planning carefully, they don't exactly know when they'll be ready to publish ArmA in all those countries, so they rather told a later date than dissapointing the customers even more by telling an earlier date and having to delay it, cause they're not ready...

    Germany 1985

I hope someone makes some decent NVA soldiers, i really missed those in OFP, always wanted to have a "germany against germany"-battle

    William Porter's Blog

Thats quite a neat idea, could set up a fake 'News' site and have it linked on wills site. He can then say things like 'im sure youve heard of the recent (linky) news' and just have some mock up news story on the situtation on the island etc.. Meh.. just an idea. The Paraiso Times

    ArmA Preview at Ofp.info

I thought this direction dot feature was in OFP:E too? But it disappeared if you chose a higher difficulty. At least thats what I remember...

    Latest screenshots available

My first thought about those was: hey, they have molehills in ArmA \o/

    German Publisher

Thats not all correct. Since the Erfurt School-shooting (and the following changes in german law to make it stricter) the USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle = Entertainment Software self control) is the one that's playing a greater role. It's an institution that rates DVDs, Games etc. for how suited they are for children and teenagers - it's pretty much like the ratings in the USA. Companys pay a fee to have their games rated by USK. And if a game has a USK-rating, it can't be put on the index by the BPjM. And because of that, there are more "violent" games on the market in germany today than before the erfurt school-shooting (even if it was not intended) - the games don't get on the index, they just get an "not to be sold to minors"-Rating by USK and can be sold normally. Totally chaotic and typically german, isn't it?

Or just watch some WW2-movies... Well I hope that you can switch language to english just like it was with OFP. I never liked the german translation in OFP, so I always play it in english...

Germany to drop conscription by 2008

Just wanted to add some comments, so foreigners can understand the situation here in germany a bit better... In Germany the conscription was the choice for the Bundeswehr for one important reason: the Reichswehr, the army of the german republic from 1919 till 1933 was, as it is called by historicans a "state in the state" (don't know if its correctly translated). The 100.000 men of the Reichswehr were somewhat separated from the rest of the population, for example they had no right to vote. This made the Reichswehr a somewhat non-democratic institution and in 1921 for example they were ordered to quell a nationalist rebellion from "Freikorps", organisations of veterans from the first world war. And the didnt follow that order, claiming "Reichswehr won't shoot Reichswehr". Above that they were somewhat happy, when Hitler came to power, because he in 1934 gave them more troops, more weapons etc. Well, after that the Bundeswehr wanted to create the "citizen in uniform", they thougt, if every young man has to do service in the army, it was to become a democratic institution (as it really is today) This is one of the main concerns regarding a professional army in germany, that it would again only attract nationalist or other individuals considered "problematic". On the other hand, speaking for a professional army and against conscription and civil service are two main points: Germany is cutting budget to the Bundeswehr, so in order to save money they don't call in all young men any more. This means inequality between those who have to go to the army or do their civil service (this is a rather high percentage of young men) and those who "save" this time and can continue with their career. Then there is the fact that in the past only men could do service in the army. Women could only become medic oder musician. After a decision of the european court some years ago, germany opened the army to women, they now can do almost every task there (i think only submarines and combat divers are "men-only" now), so it is a situation where young men have to go to the army, while women can go if they want. So, something had to be done about this situation. And if the politics would have done nothing about it, this would have been only a matter of time, before the german constitutional court in Karlsruhe or the european court put an end to that situation. @placebo: nice thought, but it wouldn't help, the kids here in germany are somewhat the same i think For my point, i think we should have a professional army, for we no longer need a large army of recruits, we need professionals to do a large amount of tasks all over the world. The Bundeswehr is in many foreign countries to do UN-Missions, like Bosnia, Cosovo, Afghanistan etc, this has somewhat overstreched the possibilities of the german army.
