Graphics engine improvement
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to bn880's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
You know, all these things are possible, but they'd all need a 1GB Geforce10 to run. -
Sounds like an attractive idea. However is scraps 2 equally good ones. 1) Rank climbing scrapped 2) Some people like to play as just a grunt.

Copperhead rounds? are they armour piercing rounds? -
Speed up, and hold that speed
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to Harnu's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
The way you describe it seems a bit anooying to use. Opflash 1 already has something like that. You have the turbo button which makes you go faster but makes you lose a bit or road control. -
Im not suggesting that the game should be made into an RPG, but imagine the possibilities with a great emphasis on personal and squad experience benefits. We could finally all have a Private Pile in our platoon! Personal (You, the player) + Having to carry your injuries in some form or another from mission to mission. + Improving abilities like Marksmanship, Fitness, Pain-threashhold, Carry-strength, Leadership... + Receive authorisation from HQ to use a new weapon. + Climb ranks (unless undesirable). + Specialisation like Heavy weapons/Light/Medium. Squad (the whole dang platoon private!) + Coordination + Obedience + Orders given to the correct soldier. e.g. "Take that tank out Pvt. Doyle!" "I only got me a rifle sir!" + Carrying the wounded. + Sacrifice + Heroic buddy efforts, "cmon Cleetus lets kill those suns o bitches!"

Hold down right mouse button for "pose control"
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to Prospero's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Might actually cause more problems that solutions. May become too fiddly, and how exactly are you supposed to look up at the sky and down to the ground if the up/down motion is assigned to prone/stand? One thing though, is that the spped at which you turn and get up needs to be improved. I found it way too slow trying to get up off the floor and although it was realistic speed, it was also very frustrating. -
suppressing fire and a fear for bullets is definately a mega+. You could also have an experience system where the more experienced soldiers are less afraid of confronting fierfights. Also, a more experienced soldier can follow orders more precisely as well as more effectively.

Which would you most like to see improved/added
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to Montanaro's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Suppressing fire commands, model animation variances, most definately an artillery system make it very complex and fun. Here is some potential dialogue: "Load S80", "Target 80-70-475", "Ready!", "Ready!", "FIRE!" *BOOM* ..... *pause and whistle*........*SMASH!* -
Dont think that way mate. Think of it this way: "A warrior that enters the battle as a boy with a stone will die quicker than a man with an iron fist".

Question about ofp 2 marketing strategy

Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Time. Am i right? -
Oops. Wrong thread.

All these would be a great addition. I mentioned before that perhaps a kind of Rainbow 6 interface should be included for close combat assaults or raids. This problem is not too difficult to solve, but unfortunately it would be a huge addition to the 700 (or so) MB of space on the CD.

Artillery and realistic radios
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to Harnu's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think that radio coordinate relay commands should be a skill that the player must develop. They should be technical yet efficient to carry out. Perhaps only the leader and/or the radio operator should be worried about coordinate relaying? -
First of all, the system used in VietCong is merely a watered down squad interface version of OFP. It seems easier to use because there are less commands available. One exciting idea to explore could be use of voice recognition build into the game. There may be set phrases like: 1) Contact! 2) Cease Fire! 3) "Bravo" attack APC! Unfortunately this would be a huge project. Although VR sounds like a simple concept, it is very difficult to design it to high efficiently.

Graphics engine improvement
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to bn880's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
The graphics engine will be a major problem to solve for BI. OFP is a very open and wide game in terms of ambience. There are only 2 clear-cut solutions that i can see. 1) Crank down the graphics complexity of the game. or 2) Install the latest graphics card. Unfortunately it seems that most companies like the second option as it passes the problem on an entirely different market. -
I didnt find the display of the unit editor to be much hassle. Although selecting commands using the numbers on my keyboard was a bit annoying. Perhaps this is the only solution to such a problem? The idea here is to have as many options open to the player, yet make them as easy as possible to access. As of yet, i do not have a solution for this.

I read a post from someone before saying that squad member and also opposition troops must have a more independant decision making tree. By this i mean, soldiers can have characteristics as they react to a situation in different ways. Discipline could be a factor here. Also, a more minor thing could be that perhaps the tactical decisions of an enemy sqaus should be more cunning and try to mislead the player.

An obvious fault in the OFP physics was the falling and slope reactions. Although it wasnt wholly important, in order to further explore the possibilites of OFP2 then these should be repaired.

Mission Idea- Perhaps the emphasis on alternative approach should be stressed? In other words, i would like to see missions in this kind of structure. [do] "A" [through] "B" [or] "C" [then] [try] D. Also, i would like to see missions taken forward at the speed and style of commando-like raids. Perhaps even a kind of Rainbow 6 approach of storming and taking prisoners.

Question about ofp 2 marketing strategy
TheManWithManyIdeas replied to havocsquad's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The release date will influence the marketing strategy most of all. It is important to introduce this game in an appropriate way in respect to other games that will be released at the same time. However, there is aslo the argument that the game (being hard-core) will not need to be extensively advertised. Hard core gamers will originate from the original release and immediately look for the sequel. Though perhaps if i were Marketing Executive, i would stress on advertisment the core-features of the game. Simulation.
