WTF?. ??? :0 :( :p :) ;) ???<span id='postcolor'> Hi BoonieRat, Yeah, ACPI can't be removed without a reinstall of Win2k and I was about to try that. But finally I seem to have gotten a hold of the problem. This is what I did: - Upgraded to Detonator Drivers 30.82 - Installed DX8.1b That didn't seem to make any difference at all. Still crashed after a few minutes of playing. Then I applied this BIOS tweak: http://www.viahardware.com/agp4xfix.shtm ... and for good measure also this registry tweak: http://support.microsoft.com/default....SPR=VBB Having those two in place makes a terrific difference and I haven't encountered any crash during two entire missions - even with AGP set to 4X in the Bios. Whew, I'm a happy camper now. Many thanks to all of you for your input and suggestions! Ciao, Toska

Ok, I just swapped out the memory and put two new sticks of Kingston 256 MB in. Flaspoint did run for approx. 15 minutes and froze again. So it doesn't appear to be a memory issue.

Do you have anything like CloneCD installed?<span id='postcolor'> Hi Placebo, The swapfile setting have been left at the stock defaults and as there is only a single partition at the moment it's located on the same partition where Win2K and Flashpoint are installed. No, CloneCD (or any other CD-recording sofware) is not installed. The only extra software after the fresh install was Office 2000, Photoshop 7 and the Macromedia Suite (Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks, Flash). On second thought add the latest Media Player and DivX codec. I have another stick of 512 MB. For good measure I'm replacing the memory to see what effect (if any) it'll have. Regards, Toska

But the article as well as the download page mention that it's an XP specific issue and I'm running Win2K. :o/ Regards, Toska

Hi all, I have Flashpoint, Red Hammer and Resistance. I played FP and later RH when they came out and back then I also had to experience frequent crashes. When Resistance came out it crashed too often to be playable at all and so I decided to reinstall the OS which was already kinda cluttered and aged. So I shoved in a new hardisk, installed Win2K, all Service Packs, all patches, DX8.1, latest Detonator drivers, latest via-4-in-1 drivers and then reinstalled FP, Red Hammer and Resistance. At first that seemed to help tremendously and I could initially play for unsurpassed 4h a piece before the computer locked up the first time. But over the last week this period of playability degraded slowly to less than ten minutes. I was playing the original FP campaign to get up to speed again for Resistance and "Killdozer" for instance locked up 8 times before I could finally beat it. And it's one of the easier missions. :o( The next mission ("Airraid") crashed four times before I even saw the first hostile. I followed the Avon Lady's great guides and helpful topics dealing with crashes, so I have upgraded my mobo-BIOS to the latest version, lowered the AGP memory from 128MB to 64MB and 2X acceleration instead of 4X. The DX8.1 tweaks are applied, too (sound acceleration and debugging set to lowest levels), all bios settings pretty conservative and I never overclocked this box. All in all I'm really at wits end and maybe someone over here has some idea which might help. Here are my hardware specs: Athlon Socket A 800 Aopen AK33 (Bios: 1.23) with 256MB RAM Gforce 2MX 64MB / AGP SoundBlaster Live! (5.1) Intel EtherExpress EEpro-100 Win2K (SP3 + all patches) I know about FADE and more often than not I wondered if those crashes (which got more frequent over the last week) aren't tributed to it. However, I never saw the message "Original games don't fade" and my installation is totally stock with no mods or add ons. I like the game so much that I'd invest in new hardware *if* I were sure that it would help. Does anyone have an idea or suggestions of what else I might try short of buying a new system? Many thanks in advance, Toska
