I successfully installed ArmA on a business laptop some months ago. Unfortunately, the GPU was too weak to run the game properly! I left it at that. Now I tried to install the game on the brand-new computer of a friend just to see what it actually looks like. Well, I put in the DVD and *nothing* happens. The DVD does not show up as being loaded nor does anything start. Since it is a DVD writer I suspect that this is the copy protection at work! Hopefully it did not do any harm to my friends computer! I cannot describe how much this upsets me! If it was not for the fact that the game was bought months ago I would be so keen on bringing it back to the shop, opened, and ask for a refund. This is the only action that possibly stops this madness. So I am still waiting to finally play the game that I legally bought! Best regards, Thomm

***** ATTENTION: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ***** Shamelessly turning this thread into my personal campaign diary, here is the latest on Thomm's Resistance Campaign! Finished the heliport destruction mission yesterday! The new definition of fun! I read a little bit about it beforehand and I have to agree that the definite way to finish this mission is to steal the V-90 that is parked in one of the hangars. I parked my squad in the ditch at the southern end of the runway, where they lay still until I rejoined them later on (the are turning into real killers, by the way! They begin to scare me). Approaching the base from the south (no BMP patrols there) I sneaked along the runway stealthyly, passed by the hangar with the BRDM and ended up next to the V-90, undetected. I entered the V-90, started the engine, and pressed W to roll out. Hint: this seems to work much better than to apply lift (Q) and fly out. I shot around a little bit, then flew to the coast to take cover "beneath the horizon". After that, it was pop-up shooting at the Shilkas. I did not figure that out at first, but the Shilkas are not stationary; they approach from the NE, so there is some time until they appear within sight! There are very dangerous and there is little margin for error when dispatching them! Using Auto-Hover from the orders menu is advantageous to provide a stable weapon platform. You will take a lot of damage fighting against the Shilkas so make sure that you save before you start the chopper! Once the Shilkas are disabled, you can start man-hunting around the base! This is very dramatic: Use the (V) key to use the weapon camera. Switch to HE ammo for the cannon! What you will see through the gun cam is frightenly similary to the AC-130 footage that appeared on the web some time ago ... soldiers running for their lifes with no chance to hide from the all-seeing-eye! War is hell! After I destroyed everything within range I flew back to my group and destroyed the V-90 with a RPG. We then encountered a patrolling BMP and an enemy squad, both of which were easy to overcome. After that it was back to base! **** QUESTION: Does anybody know what the boxes around the base contain? Anything useful? Regards, Thomm ... starting to suffer from OFP insomnia!

I tend to leave my squad behind until I am sure that I killed all visible enemy soldiers myself. In this mission it certainly did me good, because while I was sniping around the base they were waiting at the Chateau and kept killing stragglers. Guess that saved me from these troubles! Regards, Thomm

I had the same problem! If I remember correctly I killed all the foot soldiers in a few seconds (with a Bizon) but left the BMP alone. If it takes too long to kill the guards, or you are detected too early, they will shoot the hostages, so be quick! As far as I remember the hostages could escape without being shot by the BMP, but I could not avoid a "failed" mark at that first objective. I destroyed the BMP as soon as the hostages had left and carried on with the mission ... Hope that helps, Thomm

**** COUNTER STRIKE SPOILER WARNING **** WooHoo! What a blast! Finished "Counter Strike" last night! First off, the tank attack was unbeatable with a brute force approach! Took some time to find the right configuration to defend without friendly losses! And then came the bad surprise from the skies! All attempts to keep my crews in the tanks AND alive failed! I then ordered them to disembark and take cover in the nearby woods. That kept them alive and the helos from attacking (the tanks). But how could I save the tanks?? Well, I remembered the numerous M2s just in time! They proved to be excellent AA guns (do not forget to lead)! Soon, the paratroopers were repelled and the two attack helos were downed. But, still, the Mi17 kept circling over the base, with me unable to lift the M2 high enough! Switching to RPG launcher I took another chance ... HIT! Funnily, onky the Mi17 was accounted for in the statistics. Obviously the other copters were "abandoned" by their crews and did not count as kills! After that it was a nice victory parade to the extraction point! Great Game! Regards, Thomm

Okay, okay, so I am guilty of cheating. But I have to add that the fact that I save often does not mean that I die often! Also, I am of course satisfied to achieve the highest theoretically possible score while not loosing any team member! Guess that is human after all. Partly, this is because I do not want to spend more time than necessary with the game, because I need that time for my own projects. Actually, I did not play the other two parts after I finished the respective campaigns, simply because I felt that I "solved" the game. Hopefully, I will be able to apply some of the advice found here (Super AI) along with the advanced squad tactics described in one of the other current treads (didn't even know that you could form fireteams). Maybe in the context of mods like Nam or Invasion. But even without saving: the fact that you have regular access to weapons like the Dragunov and AT weapons for the whole team DOES make the game easier, doesn't it? Regards, Thomm

I recently bought OFP:Resistance and am wading my way through the campaign now. I just took the large town single-handedly and I am started to wonder if maybe the game is too easy compared to the previous two iterations?! The persistent team members make me very reluctant to risk the life of any of my soldiers. So, basically, I do everything myself, which is facilitated by the Dragunov I secured in a previous mission. I have about 8 tanks now, tons of ammo, and all my team members carry RPGs. In fact, in the Scrap mission they disposed the enemy reinforcements on their own without me even noticing it ... In the next mission I have to face a tank assault! Seems that I will not be able to beat this one on my own?! But with my numerous tanks, there won't be a problem either ... So: is Resistance too easy, or am I just to easy on the savegame cheat? Regards, Thomm PS: Great game either way!

You can also play it Rambo style by leaving the jeep and instead follow the road to get to the lower village. Start eliminating the opposition there. Use lots of grenades, accurate long range fire and scavenge RPGs to destroy the vehicles. After clearing that town you can either proceed to the other town up the hill or go back to the jeep. Either way, the rest of the enemies should be easy prey and your squad stays alive. Regards, Thomm

Alright, here comes my version: Plant the 3 bombs. Note that the bombs are NOT satchel charges, since they do not show up in the inventory. You can pick up and place as many additional satchel charges as you want (in my first attempt I placed no less than 7 satchel charges around the camp; not that it helped me in any way). Start with the BMPs and proceed quickly, because a truck with soldiers arrives soon. If you are late it is still possible to find blind spots, though. After the bombs are placed, go to the pair of speedboats to the right of the quay. Slide down the bank and walk as far into the water as is necessary to aim at the tail gunner of the middle speedboat. Detonate explosives. Shoot the tail gunner as a precaution. Then go prone and sneak to the building in the corner of the camp. The soldiers are very busy defending themselves and may overlook you. After some seconds the officers will emerge from the building (or so it seemed to me). Get close to them ... and be taken to the final cutscene. Quick and clean! Regards, Thomm P.S.: Red Hammer seems to require better hardware than the original game! My Celeron466 nearly choked on that mission!

In the "Rage" Mission of Red Hammer something very strange happened to me. In the first camp I spotted two T72s and decided to borrow one of them as a platform for my destructive job. So, I board the tank and start shooting at stuff. After some moments the tank crews appear, only to be gunned down. But not all of them. One broke through the fire and mounted MY tank, as the driver. Great, I thought, now this guy will drive with me in circles! But no - the newcomer OBEYED my orders and suddenly I had a fully operational tank at my hands! Turned out to be quite convenient, since - at the same time - I apparently did not get shot at. Did the AI soldier keep other AI soldiers from firing at me?! Or did I hit them first, I do not know. Anyway, it was a very interesting twist of the initial plan! Since this is my first post on this board, I want to sincerely thank the makers of OpF for their incredible technical achievement and for the immersive hours I have spent with the OpF Gold Edition.
