    Cannot memory-map file 'dta/music.pbo'....

I doubt my PC is running out of RAM. I have 512mb, and I use Cacheman to free up unused memory also. I have virtual memory set to min of 1.5gb and max of 2gb. I decreased AGP aperature size to 32mb, deleted a bunch of unused add-ons, used the utility to remove 46bytes from O.pbo, but I still get the error. I'm trying to delete more add-ons, but I use a lot of them and I want to keep them. I'm gonna try some different video drivers later, although my current ones have given me the best performance. Any other ideas?

Well, from what I've gathered by searching the forums is that its an ATI specific problem, but I did something to either my game or my drivers cuz it wasnt happening before. I've been using CacheMan to free memory, but I'll give that one a try too.

    Lagging performence?!

Until recently I have had no trouble with this game and my 8500. It runs smooth at 1280x1024x32 with high graphics settings. I think I need to reinstall the game since I constantly get memory map dta/music.pbo errors... A few tips: -Turn landscape detail to low and turn on Anistropic filtering instead. Faster and looks just as good. -When I reinstalled the game after my reboot I noticed it was very choppy. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I went into the setup program to see all my textures were set to 2048x2048 resolution. I wouldn't recommend setting it higher than 1024 textures. 512 should be fine for most stuff, but you can turn cockpits up for better detail. Having all those 2048 textures will eat up ALL of your ram, unless you have a few gigs of it.
  4. Okay, this is really starting to piss me off. I can never play OFPR anymore because I seem to get this error all the time and I have to reboot in order to play again. If I start up Resistance right after the reboot, it works fine. If I do other stuff on my computer and then start resistance, I get the error. Sometimes I get the error on O.pbo, but I dont always have to reboot to play again. I HAVE to reboot for the music.pbo error. I didn't get this error very often before(occasionally retsrating the game after a crash out of the mission builder from a typo, etc...), but ever since I installed the 1.91 patch I get it all the time. I had the old beta 1.91 installed prior to installing the new 1.91. Could that be the problem? It worked fine before.... I'm currently downloading the RedHat Linux 9 ISO's(which takes hours even on cable...) so I can't reboot or reinstall at the moment, but I'll try a reinstall later today. I have also tried a few different drivers, but I still have the problem, and OFPR worked with these drivers before. Running uphill...

My friend showed me this yesterday, and I thought its a bug. When you run up a steep hill, you go slow, but you can turn sideays, and strafe up the hill, but you go full speed. I just installed 1.46, and its still like that. Also, when the AI's drive a tank or truck uphill, they can go fullspeed, but when I drive, I go slow like when I run up a hill on foot.....

Fade warning message, but i have a legal copy!

They don't need to buy the game, or want to, because WE already have it. I'm try to play over the home LAN with my brother. I have two computers in my house, hooked to a router, and we play over it. Anyway, I'm saving my $ for a Saitek X45 for my flight sims, and I don't need two copies of the game. Again, what are the symptoms of FADE, and what do I do if I get infected by it? Do I just reinstall, or is there more to it? Will both computers be affected, or just one?

Ati 8500le 128mb problem, screen is all green.

That happens if you don't completely uninstall previous drivers. You didnt say which card you had before, but it works similar for ATI and nVidia. 1.) Goto add/remove programs in control panel, and uninstall ATI display drivers & Multimedia Center. Standard VGA drivers are automatically used. 2.) reboot 3.) Run "regedit" from the start menu. goto "My computer\HKEY_LOCACL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ You will see two keys with ATI in them, Delete "ATI technologies." The other one is for the ATI multimedia center, and you should delete it also. 4.) Goto find files or folders, then search for "ATI*.*" in C:\Windows. Look through the files first to make sure the search doesn't pull up the wrong stuff, then delete all the files, folder, and executables that start with "ati." If you had an nVidia card before, theres a utility that will search for an remove remaining files. If you didnt wipe off nvidia drivers completey, they might still be there. Get it at www.guru3d.com. 5.) Reboot 6.) Run the .exe for the driver you want to use, install it, and reboot, and OFP should work. If you're a little unsure about doing this, and think you might screw something up, then you should wait. those are the steps that I take whenever I install a new driver, and it works for me. If you do it, make sure to back up your registry first, so if you have problems, you can restore it. in regedit, just select "My Computer," and goto file, then export registry, and save it somewhere. I tried speeding up the process once, and deleted the registry keys before I rebooted after uninstalling the drivers, and I ended up reinstalling Windows.

Fade warning message, but i have a legal copy!

So am I going to be infected by fade? What symtoms should I look for? Can I fix it by reinstalling the game, or does it leave hidden files like those 30-day free trial things, so I have to reformat to get it to work again? Is there another way to play over a LAN without buying another game?
  9. So I don't get accused of software pircacy: I bought this game, and it is a legal version, original from the box. I have never used a pirated version on either of my computers. When I am playing OFP over a LAN in my house, I insert the CD on the host computer, launch & host a LAN game. Since I only have one CD, I then eject it, put it in the other system, start up, and join the LAN game. In a thread in the general forum, someone suggested I do that since OFP does not need the CD during gameplay. It just makes sure that you have an original CD before it starts or something like that. When the second computer connects, I see a message saying, "Remember: Original Games Do Not Fade." Does the game think that I have a pirated copy because both computers have the same CD key? I haven't noticed anything wrong with gameplay on either computer since I started playing LAN games, except for that message. Am I going to be infected by "Fade," or is this just a warning message? What are the symtoms I should look for? If I am infected with fade, will a reinstall of the game fix it, or do I have to do a reformat to clear hidden registry keys and so on? Is there a different way to play over a LAN without buying another copy of the game? At the forums at OFP Editing Center, someone suggested that I burn a copy of the CD to use in the other computer, and it would be legal as long as its for personal use, and I don't install it on someone else's computer. Would a copied CD be detected by the game and cause FADE?

    Playing over a lan....

That works, Thanx! I didn't think you could take the CD out while the game was running.

    Playing over a lan....

Ok, I have 2 computers in my house connected to a cable router. I want to be able to host a game from one, and be able to connect from the other one so two people can play. I only bought 1 copy of the game, so I only have one CD. The game wont start without it, so if I host from one computer, I cant start the game on the the second computer. I downloaded the latest dedicated server 1.42 patch, but I'm confused on how to use it. How do I run a dedicated server w/o the CD from one system, and se the CD on the other to join. I want to be able to play on the host system too. thanx!
  12. Posted: Mar. 30 2002,18:30 For the past 2 months most of my time has been spent with building my new computer, setting up a home LAN, then I discovered an new WW2 flight sim called IL-2 Sturmovik, and haven't been playing OFP much. I remember how to set the view distance in the mission editor, but I thought there was another way to do it outside the game by editing one of the game files. Then, you can have a larger view distance on missions that cant be opened in the editor. Also, it weont force a large view distance in multiplayer, so those with slow systems wont be suffering... How do you do this? Since my new system runs OFP amazigly fast, I dont need to worry about slowing it down too much.
