Happy Zombie Jesus Day! Really, wouldn't chocolate brains make more sense than bunnies?

All it took was one bastard letting me know I could get a Les Paul Epiphone for an insanely low price. So now I have three guitars that I take better photos of than I play music with. My name is Alex, and I'm a guitaraholic...

The proper way of getting this killer look from a Québécois: Simply yell "Hey Frenchie!" * If you wish to continue receiving this glare, follow it up with "That's beautiful man, I'm going to call this shot 'Jacques" *All in good fun, no real feelings were hurt in the production of this photo. People need to start bringing their own guitar!

a tad of softening, a lot of playing around with levels, and a bit of contrast increase - and the eye was edited separately from the rest of the picture. It was one of those shots where I didn't want to use flash but was afraid would turn out too dark - after the edit I'm extremely happy with it

Kids are the perfect subject sometimes

Don't remind me of the cold . Luckily it's getting warmer and that hateful white stuff is melting . Yeah, I'm surprised the squirrel even let him get that close, but it seems like he's used to people feeding him.

'Lit Up' is an awesome track . Recently I've gotten a thing for mellow (lounge, dance, whatever) covers of punk/classic/hard rock songs. Guess it started with the Richard Cheese cover of Down With The Sickness. But through Pandora I've discovered: - Self Esteem by Cuban Boys (Offspring cover) - Turn The Page by Sally Anthony (Bob Seger cover) - Smells Like Teen Spirit by Abigail (Nirvana cover)

No problem, I just found out last week . Basically it's a series of photos taken of the same subject at different exposures (keep aperture the same, change shutter speed). Usually about 5 images gives best results, say -4E, -2E, 0E, +2E, +4E. Then you need a specific tool to render the image as HDR (photoshop CS2, Photomatix)...I found an open source alternative that works well for me here. And yes, it's freaking cold out, can't wait for spring so I can go out and take more pictures . Did come across this today, poor bastard's been waiting for his date forever. Valentine's was over half a month ago!

Still messing around with HDR, going to try for some realistic-looking scenes soon, but I've been messing arround, enjoying the surreal effects you can achieve. My living room:

http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/ <- Freeware! I haven't tried HDR with a single RAW, should be possible, but you won't get a very wide range. The shots above were composed from 5 different exposures. The first ranging from +3EV to -3EV, the second from +2.5EV to -3EV

My first HDR *edit* and my second attempt:

Real songs are about deals with the devil, far off lands, and where you'd find smoke in relation to water - Otto Mann picked up Deep Purple's Made in Japan DVD yesterday for $12, gonna watch it tonight with some friends....or maybe not...as I JUST read the reviews on Amazon and it seems that the DVD is not in fact the concert....ah well, I've got others to watch. Oh and for those who don't know Deep Purple outside of the obvious song, check out Laaaaaaaazyyyy

Can't wait for spring, can't stand having my hands go numb after 20 minutes or so with the camera :P. I'm sending the last one to my family in Cuba so they can see what beautiful beaches we have in Canada.

Monkey see, Monkey do And yes, I do realize chimps are apes.
-
Saw this at work, think it is very cool if true, maybe Planet of the Apes is coming . However, I found it very fishy that no one had a camera during any of the 22 observations of this behaviour.

damn sniper, those reflections had me

Definitely not crap. I really like this one Anyways, took the new camera for the first serious test run tonight - last night of Winterlude in Ottawa, snapped a few shots of ice sculptures.

Installing Ubuntu Linux from a CD that turned out to be damaged ISO:200 Shutter Speed: 1/45 sec F-Number:4 No flash.
-
I need new boots, they get wet whenever I go out into the snow. ISO:200 Shutter Speed: 1/10 sec F-Number:3.5 No flash. Post process: Colour temperature maxed out in Picasa when editing the RAW file, slight tweaking of shadows, highlights & midtones. (mostly making the shadows a bit darker)

for macro shots like those I would go lower on the ISO if I could, but my camera only goes down to 200. However, I think it does quite well at that ISO. F-Number is the aperture - see here for an interactive explanation: Shutter speed and aperture also see Film speed and Reducing camera shake BTW congrats on the D40! I'm actually on my way to the store now to exchange my open box unit for a brand new one - I found last night while shooting long exposure night shots from my balcony that there are a couple of huge dust bunnies on the sensor! . Hope there's some left. Website says there are some left in my local store but only 14 in all of e'm. *edit* After freezing my ass off (windchill must be around -30) I'm back with a brand new K110D - maybe the last one in the store - the clerk had to really dig to find it. Works out in a way, seems the open box camera had a few items missing (lens hood, lens manual, warranty papers! ). Plus I decided to invest in a good camera bag. The K110D looks even more beautiful now with the lens hood attached

Another macro with my new camera - because I'm getting home from work too late and it's too damn cold for anything else. Getting this one below 100kb while still preserving some of the detail had me ISO:200 Shutter Speed: 1/2 sec F-Number:5.6

Taken with my new toy: Taken in manual mode I might add, no automatic settings . I for one like Albert's idea, so: ISO:200 Shutter Speed: 1/2 sec (tripod used) F-Number:5.6 No Flash Camera: Pentax K110D touched up colour and exposure a bit post process. *edit* Another one, this one taken with the camera's macro mode. ISO:200 Shutter Speed: 1/60 F-Number:5.6 Flash fired post process: "fall colors" setting in virtual photographer This weekend I plan on going to Winterlude to get some pictures of the ice scupltures - I think those were actually the first thing I posted here, about 3 years ago .
