Color me impressed. Obviously a lot to still do, and the simple "characters" do nothing for me (but that's not why I play OFP/ArmA!, but heck if this doesn't get me excited. Bring it on... I still want to see more evidence of the NPC interaction and how real or involved it will be.

I'm still on the fence about ArmA2, so I'm looking forward to whatever comes from GC to sway me one way or the other... (for now)

I would hope for this to be a must. If they are serious about a more "RPG" element--or have they dropped that route? I guess we will find out from GC08.

And that means... more videos soon! Right? Please?

Carrier Command: Gaea Mission
Strucknine replied to mr_centipede's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Ah! Are you kidding me, I read this book! It got some great reviews (some scifi site had it in their top books of the year) and I have to agree with them, but I had no idea it was becoming a game. Carrier Command eh... my friends loved this but I never got into it (too busy playing Uridium). Thanks for posting that link to the original, see if I can get an emulator running and see what all the fuss is about... oh wait, which is the best format to try? I had seen it on Amiga, is the PC enhanced or is it back in the EGA days? -
Oh I dunno, maybe I'm an optomistic kinda guy, but considering how far digital graphics have come in the past twenty years, and the rate they are improving, this sort of thing doesn't really surprise me. Not that it isn't impressive, just sort of... inevitable. I pity the poor bastards who have to model everything though!

This sounds really good, but I will probably wait for the eventual DVD set to watch it all together. Did that with Band of Brothers and enjoyed it more. The Wire... one show I really want to start watching from the beginning. I hear it is a "spiritual successor" to Homicide: Life on the Streets, which is one of my favorite shows ever.

Interesting topic... I sort of agree but since these types of games never really have much of a story or continuity I don't think anyone would think they'd need to play the earlier games first (see CoD1-3). Usually when I see a sequel to a game that didn't have the best reception I think that it must be better and many of the problems fixed. There have been some notable exceptions though... hoping ArmA 2 or II or whatever isn't one of them!

Quality is always preferable to speed. So many games get released too early and suffer for it. Yes, patching is great, but first impressions also count... I've had games where I say "Hm, a bit buggy, maybe I'll come back to this in a couple of months when it's been patched" -- and then I never play it again. I know a lot of people who did this with ArmA. I don't mind the console porting at all though, if it is handled properly. BioShock is a great example of how to do it well.

ArmA II DirectX 10 or DirectX 10.1?
Strucknine replied to Alienfreak's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Good point, Baddo. I rarely upgrade, and only when really necessary. I very much hope ArmA 2 sticks to DX9 and not fall into the Vista-only trap -- although I guess that depends on the eventual release date! If it ends up being 2009, then DX10 will start to make more sense... -
Alien on Commodore 64. Sure it's only blips & blobs, but damn if it didn't scare the heck outta me when I was a kid! I wanted to be scared by F.E.A.R., but it didn't do it for me...

Sweet! This will make things easier, I like it. But if it is a slow dog, then I would prefer the previous editor. I hope you can switch between the different modes.
