Really, my impression from the below comment is that you're against the idea. BTW its not just FM but also would probably involve 3d 6dof clickable pit which adds alot more than whats already in A3. Comparing FSX helos to DCS KA50, with DCS all the important buttons work, FBW autopilot channels work, autopilot, trim etc. FSX very basic cockpit, 60% or less of switches do not work or have no use, no ramp start procedure or full manual for EH101 or the other helicopters. FM for EH101 is non FBW and it handles like a helicopter from WW2. Hoist is good but sling load has bugs. The R22 flys much better though but they are both quite basicly modeled thats just a few differences between FSXs helicopters and DCS. Is9uWkP_kU8 Yes its me flying and its just a demonstration of some bugs that must have slipped through the beta testing and are still present in FSX.
  2. Its ok I was drunk when I typed that. Birds nests wow thats a new one.

Ideally if you want the best out of the simulation then you want it to be as flexible as possible and not limited for just one area. I was using the Clan based warfare as an example of where this stuff could lead and how BI could make extra money. I suspect A3 and TOH have quite a similar engine or may even have more in common than that. Gameplay satisfaction is not a problem with this as BI are quite good at putting up immersive missions for both MP and SP. I look at FSX and find that some people are quite put off the by idea of combat in MP and this is just stupid since a Global map opens more possibilitys for gameplay. As it is Tacpac is the only decent mod for FSX that will bring combat to a Global map which extends the combat to intercountry and not just a small block of land somewhere. My own experience with DCS KA50 and comparing it to A2s helicopters I definately miss the 3d 6dof clickable cockpit and all the advantages of its avionics. As it is BI are good at making combat simulators so allowing(not forcing) people to combine TOH with A3 would increase gameplay significantly. Servers could easily have the option on or off and more will buy both to make use of the added features. This way everyone wins, BI can easily evolve the sim as well so it could well wind up matching DCS etc over time.(to early to judge yet how this would compare to DCS KA50 although a large number of flyable aircraft means the aircraft might be less detailed than DCS)

FM must be based on RL data and the Flight controls need to operate as they do IRL for the aircraft to perform the way it should. DCS KA50 uses FBW so its realistic FM for KA 50 but not other aircraft. A bad example is the FSX EH101 which IRL is FBW, try flying it and its 1000 times harder than IRL. The R22 on the other hand seems to fly the way a real one does(from a real R22 pilot). A FM also needs to behave in certain ways when influenced externally by weather(wind), weight empty/fully loaded/when carrying a Sling Load etc. For FBW like a KA50, Blackhawk or AH64 you also have added features like Auto hover, Auto pilot(multi-channel), Auto turn to target and trim. The advanced FM for the KA50 calculates for each rotor blade as well as the aircrafts weight fuel load and external stores. For a MP perspective such a sim combination allows for pilots to do a better job at flying and at fighting than whats already in Arma2. Maybe with a hoist fast roping is also possible. Maybe BI could consider a logbook with MP accessibility like in Falcon 4 with also the requirement for new pilots on some servers to complete trainning missions before MP access is granted on a server. In other words an actual helicopter pilots licence in game to avoid MP accidents etc Which is unlikely anyway since most guys who buy TOH would probably pass the trg missions anyway.
  5. With the walk around will oil checks/hydralics etc be possible?

Thats absolute bollocks, OFP you could only use mouse to fly so regardless of FM it still sucked to fly. In Arma we could use a HOTAS but with Arma2 it has multicontroller support so I can use my rudder pedals as well as HOTAS to fly and although its basic compared to DCS KA50 it is outstanding for an FPS. Any assumption that TOH would have a crap FM you have to wait until its released before judging it. Arma2 has a better FM than the FSX EH101 BTW from my point of view. TOH FM can be easily updated by its devs and could evolve upto a DCS level sim. My advice to BI is make it possible to combine TOH with Arma3 in MP(they must use a similar engine because you can walk around in TOH) that way the hardcore pilots can fly with FPS in A3. Such a combination should also allow TOH to fly in A3 world and A3 to operate in TOH world. Speaking of FM the JSF has a better FM than the A1s fixed wing aircraft. ---------- Post added at 11:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:37 AM ---------- BI has a big opportunity by allowing both to be combined as it greatly expands the role pilots play in A3. You could have servers that make use of a combined A3/TOH with players making full use of the helicopters features. To assume that players in FSX/TOH because they don't like blowing stuff up is incorrect. In the screenshots I see emergency services and a hoist, missions can incorporate action and don't have to be just flying around like FSX is in MP. If you were a member of a combined arms Clan then you would see the potential. Clan incorporates its own Army, Navy and Air Force. When Clans have a war often the pilots have to use a separate sim to the FPS and likewise the NAVY. Pilots use Flaming Cliffs2/Falcon4 Allied Forces/DCS KA50/A-10C, Army use Arma 2/ Steel Beasts(in some cases), Navy uses Dangerous Waters/688i etc. To have Arma3 with TOH allows pilots to fly with FPS as it is the limitations are still bad for fast jet though but all the above is probably possible if A3 allowed a combination with TOH and TOJ(Take On Jets:D) it expands A3 alot yet at the sametime could be standalone for those who do not wish for A3 etc. DCS already allows pilots to walk around after ejecting although you cannot yet do anything past that.

This is an awesome opportunity for BI if they allow MP compatibility between TOH and Arma3. Currently some sims are trying to work their way from jet combat flight sim to FPS such as FighterOps and DCS. By going this path BI is taking a shortcut and essentially making the ultimate combat simulation. If TOH allows FPS mode then its obvious that it would fit with Arma3 no problem if the devs approach this with MP compatibility in mind. Advantages allow for more realistic missions and even more realistic use of helicopters. The current FM for Arma2 is not that bad I actually like it and also fly DCS KA50 so I know the difference between the 2. I've beaten every mission in FSX and acceleration including all the helicopter missions which are alot of fun. FSX is not just about flying from point A to point B but also completeing missions and earning rewards/medals for the log book. From my flying these sims I can see some big advantages if they choose to allow MP compatibility. Ideally arma3 should have a combined mod with TOH which allows same maps in both and fast switching from flying the helicopter to FPS mode. With a clickable pit the pilot has more freedom to use the helicopter realistically such as autopilot, proper TADs(does A2 already have this if not why not?) drones should have variable height(IRL they fly quite high), ground targetting should allow for ground stabilise for both UAV camera mode and TADS and then simple slew and lock. (like DCS KA50) Further potential for more money for more addons for BI: 1/ Realistic terrain addons with larger terrain blocks or Global map. 2/ Ship combat addon like dangerous waters/688I(possible already?) 3/ Realistic tank addon like TOH except tanks are like steel beasts modelling.(individual tank or make a pack with SDK so community could make the rest) 4/ Aircraft addon- Jet combat with Lockon FC2 level avionics or the ultimate would be Falcon 4/DCS A-10C but whats needed is just basic FC2 level to allow realistic combat A/A and A/G. Just look at the JSF in A2 it needs a targetting pod view like the Commanders view in the Abrams but with ground stalising and lock, laser(could include codes for buddy lasing etc) and CCRP delivery mode for LGBs in the HUD plus CCIP for iron bombs for accurate delivery.

    CCIP For dropping bombs

Not for bombs mate and thats the problem.
  9. Has anyone tried to make a CCIP sight for the HUD to drop bombs?
  10. subs17

    CCIP For dropping bombs

I'm good with the CCIP in Falcon which mod for Arma has the sight for the Harrier? BTW you are incorrect on the dive angle CCIP can be used at any angle descent it depends on the weapon type wether its high drag or low drag as to the dive angle. The weapon delivery planner is the best tool for working out your dive angle.

    MK-77 Napalm

Is it possible to make a CCIP sight for bomb delivery? Thats what Arma needs for accurate bomb delivery.

Does anyone still play ArmA Online?

ACE is awesome on Arma I still use it.
  13. Nope just curious you guys have done a great job with your mods so far and I know it would be quite difficult to accurately model a nuke. Now about that spare barrel are you guys modelling spare barrels for MGs? Just asking.:D
  14. Actually they ran in the initial contact with their packs following that they ran quite a distance after evading the Iraqis I can't remember the exact distance but it was over 15km with webbing and rifle. The balance to this is the running speed which is either full on or walking and ideally you want to have a speed in between because with a heavy load he can run 2kms. ;) ---------- Post added at 08:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 PM ---------- Nobodys complaining we are just merely discussing it. ---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:54 PM ---------- The reason why I asked about the body armour was to see what the weight was you guys were using for your calculations for the stamina and also damage modelling. Another question will the M240 and other MGs have a spare barrel? ---------- Post added at 08:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ---------- Nice are you guys modelling Flash and EMP effects for the nukes. I'm all for nukes in MP.:D
  15. Its not modelling PC gamers to Arma its modelling a real soldiers performance to Arma. IMO when you start a mission in Arma its assumed that your character is fresh on the battlefield unless you're continuing a campaign. Its also assumed that regardless of class your character is 20-27 years old and fighting fit. You have to base the performance off someone who is in the mid to upper level of fitness. If the character is infantry then he should be able to walk long distances with a heavy load because thats what they do. ---------- Post added at 06:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 AM ---------- Could that mean then perhaps it might be better to model different SF types since SAS/SBS carry alot more than that in most books I've read. Are you guys modelling body armour as well because I think that will have an effect on the stamina and damage modelling.
  16. I wonder if perhaps its possible to model different running speeds then there would be better results such as 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. It might be similar to the effect of running uphill in Arma you would start off at 100% then through a precalculated distance drop to 75% and then 50% etc. M240 12.5kg 3x200 rnds belt = 5.4kgx3 = 16.2kg M67 = .4kg smoke = .5kg Total 29.6kg Not that much weight really although body armour might add 7.4+kg depending on the type.(total 37kg) plus 2 litres of water probably around 39kg. BTW Those weapon effects are awesome especially the M136 and I like the flash bang effect very cool.
  17. So what is the machine gunner carrying for that test? Also are you guys going to model different types of body armour and their associated weights?
  18. I used video footage from movies which were exactly as mentioned in books which were written from interviews with people involved. In Bravo 2 zero the patrol ran quite a distance and then later Chris Ryan walked all the way to Syria(160km) and that was from more than just one book all the books written about it showed the same. Same can also be said for BHD yes those guys after fighting all day and all night ran all the way to the UN Compound. Just because its a movie doesn't mean it didn't happen they are both great stories and there are interviews as well if you look on Youtube with some of the soldiers. Competitions can show you the level of endurance that people can push themselves and same with fitness tests which was why I mentioned it. Psychology and adrenalin in a computer game is actually simulated by the player himself. You don't need to simulate either aspect because the experience from the game will deliver that if its done right. For a combat sim like Arma the effects I think aren't the same as games like Halflife since the player is less afraid of bullets than he is of getting eaten by a giant monster.:D Probably the best aspect of ACE1s damage model is the player screaming in pain which is very cool there is definately some good aspects in the damage model although its basic 1st aid its very well done. Yeah I agree I look forward to seeing what they come up with so far the list of improvements make it by far the most authentic FPS.
  19. I think the side mission for the convoy involves more than 3 vehicles and also the convoy attack on your base is at least 5 or 6 armoured vehicles. Definately it is one of the best MP missions ever created especially the ACEmod one.
  20. Its a pity that they won't make a mod to allow weapons in the FPS mode as its quite cool to walk around in DCS after you eject.
  21. Well that sounds awesome I look forward to seeing that in action. ---------- Post added at 06:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 AM ---------- I wasn't actually complaining merely pointing out the reality that there is no Black out IRL. And I backed that up with: 1/ Historical accounts from actual battles including video re-enactments of those events as an example. 2/ An actual Blog of average soldiers competing in a competition(including women) which tested their endurance and skill. 3/ Comments from an actual soldier which supported my views on the topic. I think there is one way in which you could potentially make dehydration a factor is to add the water intake to the players character which adds not only an extra area to keep an eye on but also more weight overall to what the character has to carry. And then like Dukenukem you also have to go take a piss every now and then which is well beyond hardcore for an FPS but it would make things interesting.:D
  22. Yeah I think something like that would require cooperation between companys as ideally you would want the aircraft aspect to be separate from the other types but all to use a common MP code and map. As it is with FO if you look at their screenshots you'll see that they modelled underwater terrain as well as preparation for just such a sim. That would allow the FPS Navy Seals to be deployed from submarines etc. I think the technology is there its just a matter of some companys having a go at it. Maybe for the Global map you would definately have to use the same bubble approach as Falcon 4 especially if it has a dynamic campaign.
