British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
StormbringerGT replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I don't chime in here often but this was $10 well spent. My highlights: 1. Cool Campaign 2. Good voice acting on some key characters 3. New weapons 4. new vehicles to play with in the toy box :D 5. A bunch of new single player missions I've spent $10 on worse stuff for sure. Hell we just ate at Chilis and I spent $16 on their Fiesta Trio but it was very meh. Anyway, to me its well worth it. I voted with my wallet! Also the only bug I came across this time was during the training sequence getting my medic to heal someone he would't do it. I played the entire campaign (twice) and all the single missions and I did not crash to desktop once! Thanks BI this was a blast! I especially liked the opening! -
Aircraft rudder has a mind of its own?
StormbringerGT replied to xPaveway's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've also experienced this. When flaying in a straight line, my plane likes to "turn slightly" left and right. I thought maybe turbulence was to blame but when I switch to 3rd person my rudder was flapping away! -
New Patch made things worse!

Lower view distance (I had mine at max), also helped with framerate tremendously. It also reduced slow texture pop-in. -
New Patch made things worse!

I completely agree. But Im a texture artist and those 8gbs I have get filled up fast with pallettes and paging files. For modern Games, 4gbs are probably more than enough. I'm not sure who that comment was directed at however, Cpt. Goose. regardless, Ive got my gaming working flawlessly now. I've set everyything to Very High except, Textures. I have that set on Medium. That seems to be the culprit of most peoples major framerate issues. I also play with low aa and af. By keeping the Post Effects on high or higher it hides some jaggies. However Post effects are not for everyone. Not everyone likes the way they look. Also the title of this thread is now very misleading. The patch did not make things worse. I patched at the same time I updated to the new Nivida drivers. Once I rolled back to old nvidia drivers, everything got better. I didn't have to limit my memory or use winxp. The coding in the game could use some work, but then again, so does 99% of the programs I see out there! -
It appears I can get way better framrates, if I set my textures to normal. They still look good and in a firefight you don't notice a difference. Some people may want to try lower the textures, that helped with stuttering and "texture pop inlag" not sure if I described that right. Think Unreal engine texture problems. :D

New Patch made things worse!
StormbringerGT replied to StormbringerGT's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah actually I just installed them and it fixed my graphical problems. I m still getting bad performance genrally, but the game looks good and is playable at least. -
Thanks I will let you know of my findings! Also I dunno if this helps anyone, but I am having a very similar issue in Empire Total War. I am using the newest NVidia Drivers. Alright! I did two things, I went back to 182.50 drivers. I also limited my memory as per your guys suggestions. The game runs great! I got everything cranked on Very High and I get a very playable 30 FPS (my game was saved in the middle of a large firefight and it runs great) I'd make a video and show it, but FRAPs ruins framerate and ruins the point of my video. Its also worth noting that after doing both of those my Empire total War problem went away as well!

New Patch made things worse!

I noticed today that in the options, I cannot set my texture or my video memory any higher than normal. There are no other available options. Just low and Normal. They both used to go to Very High. Private Plowjoy, Thanks I'll give that a try and post results. Starfire, Im using 168.18. ---------- Post added at 06:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ---------- Alright same problems using that tagline after my shortcut. No noticable changes. ---------- Post added at 06:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 PM ---------- I also noticed in my CFG file that these two settings are set extremely low for some reason: localVRAM=128024512; nonlocalVRAM=128024512; -
I have 8gbs RAM in my system, how do I limit my system RAM to 4gb to fix the problem? Unless you are talking physically taking the RAM out.

Alright so I installed and played ArmA 2. I saw some performance issues so I hit the internet and found out about the EVGA SLI thing. Cool. I then found out about the new Patch for Arma. So i snagged that as well. After installing those, when I play now my performace is almost worse. On top of that some of my textures are black or white and stuff doesnt render until I'm on top of it, sometimes not at all, it stays all blocky. Playing was better for me, before the patch. Anyone having these issues and have some fixes to share? Im running Windows vista 64bit 8800 GTX 756MB in SLI EVGA 680i MoBo 8Gbs of RAM Any help is appreciated. EDIT If you read down I found out that the newer Nvidia Driver seemed to be the culprit. I had a similar texture problem with Empire Total War as well. Rolling back to 182.50 fixed most of my problems.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I now know how that works better! Im not sure if 64bit is worth it however. Im sorry, I was very tried last night. To explain it further it just wont install. It claims I have 1.07 installed, which I dont. I have 1.08. It then say I have to have 1.08 to install 1.09. Anyway thanks for your tips and thoughts. Its people like you who fuel communities.

Thanks for the tips Ill check when I get home. And yes I noticed if you add up the video ram of my two video cards and subtract from the 4gbs of ram, I get the same number that windows reports me as having. I read that microsoft paper months ago, but I still dont understand why it doesnt do that in the 64 bit version? EDIT Also when I said it wont work at all I meant that the Beta patch wouldnt work with my direct2drive version. EDIT AGAIN Off topic. But if I physically put in 6GB worth of ram in, will that allow me to have more available ram in windows? VIsta 32 Ultimate only supports up to 4 gbs but after my video cards take their 1.5gb share that puts me close to 4gb. Right now I physically have 4gbs of ram but windows only reports 2.3 due to the 1.5 my video cards eat.

Im running the Direct2Drive version of ArmA which downloads at 1.06. I've shoehorned 1.08 unto it (im not supposed it says) and have a good time playing. I have everything maxed out and have no performance issues whatsoever (will post my specs further down). However the one issue I am having is random crashes. I cant pinpoint when or how often as it just seems very random. I think once during an Alt-Tab, but I've Alt-Tabbed plenty of times. It just seems to randomly do it. Once every hour, every 5 minutes, not for a day. Its getting frustrating. I've seen that people have had succes trying the Beta, but that won't work with my version at all, I tried. Does anyone have a work around for this? Any ideas or solutions? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2.40GHz EVGA 780i Motherboard (just did upgrade promotion for it) 2 SLI 8800 GTX 768 4GBs DDR2 Ram (However this drops thanks to my video cards and Vista) Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit 2 500GB Hard Drives in a Raid 0 Array That is what I am runningthat affects performance My system is hooked up to a Mitsubishi 65inch DLP Television, so my max resolution for any PC game is 1920x1080 but I dont see any performance loss from the old Sumsung LCD 22inch I was using the resolution was 1680 by 1050 on that. I also use the Nvidia Control Panel to make it fit the screen. Its the "Resize HDTV desktop" task. I also set it to 1080p using the "change the signal or HD format" task. The only other performance change I could think of is I have my sound card disabled, Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer. The reason for this, unless i get a converter for the wires, there is no way me for to get the sound from the card to my surround sound system (Samsung 5.1 1200W HT-WX70). However my onboard sound rocks a digital audio (firber optic) output and my receiver has a digital audio input. So I lose my EAX function but I gain true Dobly Digital DTS 5.1 surround. Performance wise I don't notice any loss due to the fact that I am using onboard sound. Someone said that onboard can slow your system down, but I've never seen it. This wasnt alwasy the case months ago using almost teh same exact harware configuration I had multiple display issues and crashing with this game, but recent patching and Driver Updates (I am running teh newest Nvidia BETA) have fixed teh performance. So if anyone has any ideas how I can get 1.09 up and running that would be great! The message I get when trying to install 1.09 is this: Gamer version 1.08 required. Your current version is 1.07. I installed 1.08 so Im not sure whats up. Again, Direct2drive version doesnt officially support above 1.06 yet.
