I want to do something similar to this. I'm going to build a server, actually just a computer with a decent CPU and 2GB of ram, and host dedicated servers. I have a copy of ArmA on disc (not downloaded), would I have to install the game and dedicated server software on the server itself? I will not be playing the game on the server, just hosting. Also, I have a router and modem. Where would this server hook up to? My router? Also, I have 2 other computers connected to the router. When they are both connected to the server, will the server take away from the internet speed and cause me to lag?

I've worked on a few Half-Life 2 mods. But they failed, because our leader never gave us work to do, and never wrote back to emails. It wasn't all bad that they failed, because I learned a lot from other people's mistakes. I know how to deal with people on the team, but getting the team to deal with is my trouble! I'm definitely going to put together a design document, and some 2D art. If that doesn't work at gaining interest, I don't know what will. Look for news in the future! -

I really want to do a mech simulation. Something similar to Steel Battalion, but without the huge controller. It would be cool to see about 30 mechs all walking together on a big field or something. It wouldn't be fastpaced mech combat like Mech Assault, but something much slower. This is what I am thinking about now Don't act like an idiot Ironsight. -

Ok, thanks! I'm going to rethink of a new idea. The more I thought about the Chechnya mod, the less enthused I became about it. I'm going to think about it more this time, and create something to present. -

Unless someone can find the positions I want, then it's over. No one wants to be a part of a mod, they don't like. Not many people know about this conflict, which is why people don't join. WW2 mods will always attract attention, anything else is pick-and-hope for the best. I tried to set realistic goals, with a presentable job request, and present it on multiple forums. However, this doesn't work at all! Does my request have to be in 1337 for people to understand? I guess professionalism is out of date or something? -

Oh well, I don't like the idea too much. It would be exactly like Flashpoint, same vehicles, weapons, blahhhhh. For now, I'm done with this idea. Perhaps in the future I will think of another idea, but it will probably fail, and no one will join, repeat.... Thank you for your wasted time! -

If I can't get help with the mod, how can it survive? I've gotten two people interested, and they have never wrote back. I'm not going to spend the effort and money for a site, in which no one is interested. However, I've learned that trying to do something NEW is not good, I guess WW2 mods attract more attention -

There is nothing to beta test. The mod is just starting up, and I need the basic positions filled, first. -

I just think it makes the game very "gamey", almost BF2ish, where anyone can hop into a tank, and go on a rampage. Limiting the roles to certain vehicles will make more strategy, instead of everyone teamkilling for the tank or the helicopter. Do you really think a regular infantry can operate the tank turret, fire, and load? I don't think so. However, in this game you can. I know this game doesn't accurately portray the normal occurrences in a M1A1 tank. Steel Beasts actually requires a bit more knowledge to actually accomplish something. I just think it should be restricted for realism sake, gameplay sake, even if it's very simple to operate the tank in the game.

Regular infantry are not trained in driving tanks! Tanks require tons of training to operate them safely and correctly. A normal infantry guy wouldn't know how to set distances for the main gun, or load it. A Hummer is basically a car, not a complex battle tank. So anyone could drive a Hummer. Same with pilots. Only pilots should be able to fly helicopters/jets, and normal infantry shouldn't. As a result of this, certain roles should be locked out of certain vehicles, to make it realistic. Look at the training for a M1A1 tank in REAL LIFE, see how tough it is. And yes, people are trained in operating just this ONE tank only! That is their job. Yes, it's realistic.

How about maybe just tank crewman can operate a tank? Since now, everyone, even a regular infantry soldier, can operate a battle tank. Not very realistic, and if it limits to crewman, it might cut down on this problem.
