    And it's hardly realistic - have you ever tried to jump while aiming an M4? I mean, jumping as seen in FPS games is quite impossible, I think... At least with a rifle and some 30 kg of gear on your back. I been running obstacle course with combat gear (15 kg, no bodyarmor)... Ropes, crossing nets, hopping over 1-1.5 meter walls etc.. Only thing that i couldn't get over was Pole-obstacle in about 2 meters height: I could hop to it and pull my self up... But combatbelt's big frontal pockets didn't allow me to get on that pole (there wasn't a wall, only that pole and so i couldn't use my feet at all), that was only obstance that i couldn't cross. So i don't see reason why even 1 meter high obstacle should be immpossible in ArmA. Run towards it and put your hands on it and jump... Rest is about controling your body (not stumbling to your gun, and you raise your feets across that wall). No matter how ArmA presents it, jumping or climbing, but it is possible IRL and would be good feature in ArmA too... Just today i had issues with that too good collosiondetection That sounds good system... But is it possible in ArmA? I don't know...

    AI detection in demo vs. retail

    I use bushes alot, and they seem make difference in hiding: if im under fire, i usually seek for closest bush and usually make out of it alive, if i just make it to bush (enemy still fires at me when i'm in concealment but at random spot... But i enjoy longer firefights (and more realistic firefights) so i play about 0.5 skilllevel, precisionlevel in about 0.75-0.9. I think that player just needs to use bush properly, you have to be inside bush (some leaves are infront of player) not so that players face and shoulders are visible... firingdisipline is also essential, no bursts or 1 shot in second snapshots. I usually use 2-4 seconds between shots. My ArmA version is 1.02.

    Well it wouldn't be miracle if that IRL cannon locks itself to target (via laser tracking, radar, CCD... ). Never heard of Spike ATGM forexample? Well it isn't weapon like Ka-50 cannon but a missile, but target tracking could be same kind, sensors get the location of target and computer adjusts cannon correctly to target. The thing is: Can ArmA present this? I don't remeber a single weapon (not ammos like missiles) in 1.02 version that can track down the target... Somehow i feel that i isn't possible. was in OFP a single weapon that could automaticaly track target? I can't remeber a single one.

    Funny occurance

    thats because the config and scripted AI behavier is changing from time to time, thats hard to be change Yes i know. Some things are that mission designer clearly didn't think that armor values etc... are going to be changed in mods: Some tank should blowup so that cutscene proceeds, but new&better armor value + too few AT-lauchers = Cutscene gets stuck. (and how they could have known that OFP will be so moddes as it is... So no i'm not blaming designers for that.) But there are still some "problems" with plain OFP too. I like them, gives some extra tension and level to cutscene, as they are just missions, not pre-made animations.

    I haven't noticed that and i've seen that cutscene four times now ... Well maybe next time i'll get lucky. With OFP there was too those stange things... Like CWC campaigin's ending cutscene. Sometimes something funny happens, but sometimes whole cutscene gets stuck... expacely when using mods.

    Worth to buy the game now?

    Well ArmA with same number of AI troops + twice the view distance runs better than OFP on my current system so go figure about performance...that's called optimization. that is true. OFP started to lag bad (3-6 fps) in my computer with aprox 300-400 units, decimated mechaniced batallion vs strengthed infantry company... ArmA 1.02 runs very much better (20 fps) with same amout and type of units and higher viewdistance. I find it amazing.

    Problems with Upgrade, PLZ HELP.

    -Try also tweak refresh rate. I use different refresh rate (75 hz) on desktop and in games (60 hz). That seems to cause problems with ati x800. With my ArmA that hasn't been issue, but others games like OFP, Oblivion and Gothic 3 freezes, or other ways ruins game, quite often if refresh rate is same with desktop and game. -One other suggestion... This is very long shot, but tune desktop's resolution to higher than game uses. So if ArmA has 1024x768 turn you desktop resolution to 1240x1024. My combat mission-series seems to lock my computer just like yours ArmA, but that resolution thing fixes it... I hate this new era and it's no-good and unreliable graph cards!!! edit: AHA! fasad figured out reason why it doesn't work.

    Visual cover in grass over distance.

    Exatly what i'm thinking too (and i don't have sligthest clue how it would look like in-game ) Same texture used in soldier than with ground... can it be that hard? Chameleon-effect should we call it? ... Maybe player and AI has cone-of-sight which decreases chameleon effect: so in center of their view area (forexample player's monitor) chameleon effect is more visible than in edges. But balancing takes time, expacely with all kinds of optics etc... Oh and something that tells AI than it can't shoot accurately something which is lying in tall grass.

  15. there is thing i encoutered: If unit has no weapons and in safe mode. Then he's given weapon with "addweapon" command, result: Unit gets stuck. He is just standing there with weapon in his back. In combat mode he takes weapon from his back and keeps on going. I tested with civilians, i don't know about others.

    Health system

    What is the point: If medic keeps man alive (but severly injured = not fit to fight), it still doesn't bring any benefits/aspects to game. They aren't comming back to battle, not even in campaigns as those usually last too short time for severly injured guy to recover + ArmA and OFP doesn't focus on tracking some personalities. In games like Jagged alliance and X-Com that thing worked well as campaign could last long time (even years in game's time), you always saw how your guys are recovering. But ArmA doesn't have that kind of focus, and there is no need for it. Maybe Game 2 with it's rumored dynamic structure can give that aspect. Maybe player gets hit to legs and war rages on for mouths as player is recovering in hospital. That could be intresting point... Or maybe player gets out from hospital after war in finished (i can imagine Game 2 forum's troubleshooting section: My campaign lasts only one mission! Is this a bug! )

    Please fix the AI

    One thing might make CQB much more better for AI. If AI could be defined to ignore "combat" as it is in aware stance and spots enemy. Something like "this enablecombat false". In aware they scan around, move slowly and take quite steep turns in corner of buildings. But when "combat" kicks in, they start to go prone then sprint and go prone again, they waste more time in moving than in spotting enemies and trying to shoot them. Or then their movement in streets of towns/cities could be made to be like inside of buildings (as AI doesn't rush, but slowly walks forward). Maybe by editor placed trigger or sumthing? One intresting point-of-view is "vee" formation as it usually forces group members to check behind building and walls as they try to maintain that too-big-for-towns formation in frontside of leader. It causes some stupidness expacely in "combat", as they try to do bounding overwatch. Group can get stucked expacely in tight alleys.

    Navigate by the stars?

    I use hour method to determ north in daylight . Sun rises from east at 6.00, at 18.00 sun sets down to west. At 12.00 sun is in south and 24.00 in north. At night you can see which direction is north as northern sky is brighter than others because of the sun and at summers sun doesn't set down at all in here! Then again at winter sun might not rise at all in lapland. Then it is easier to find North star. I use naturemarks such as antnests, mushrooms in trees and things which english names i do not know (and i'm too lazy to check). Haven't checked if naturemarks works in ArmA, but i have my doupts

    I shot the eagle...

    WHAT! The eagle stays there where it lands! I shot one but couldn't find it's corpse... Oh dear... Now i have to shoot another of those... It looked nice as bullet hit that sucker and there was that bullet-hitting effect, reminds me of Platoon the movie btw... Made me feel proud to be man with the gun. Almost like in one huntergame where i was supposed to kill whole bunch of warthogs with .44 magnum revolver. ...

    charonos: Sorry, i was in haste and didn't even read properly what you wrote, so my sorry. Infact if triggers operate sameway as in OFP, you can make forexample 5000x5000 trigger with west present condition and maybe repeatedly working/checking intead of once. If you then write command "man countenemy list trigger" man doesn't count what he knows, but what trigger knows... And trigger knows everything with given condition. I don't remeber did anybody present work with countenemy... It should, if i remeber correctly. That is you best shot: countfrinedly, countenemy etc... are for that what you need. Hope this makes up my earlier stupidness. Edit: If this didn't bring light to the issue your facing, i'll blame my english next EDIT2: if trigger has condition west detected by east and i put command "eastman countenemy list trigger": Eastman doesn't count what he knows to be hostile (the west), but what every east units knows about hostiles in vicinity of that trigger...

    If you need the civilians to be considered hostile towards east&weast, then you have to make a old trick: Make resistance hostile towards weat and east (aka "none" in weather menu), then make a civilian-group but add a resistance guy (with 0% probapility of presence) to lead that group. But if i remeber right you have to make that in start of the mission. If you join reistance and civilian in middle of mission, then civilians aren't considered to be hostile, but civilians offcourse shoot west&east on sight. Setpos-command might be ideal to switch places with non-hostile civilians and hostile civilians if you wan't middle of mission-event... Bit tricky but i can't figure out other way Infact setfriendly thing partially works with civilians... West and east consideres them to be hostile, but for some reason they don't shoot them. They target them, they report them to be hostile (if i remeber right they used word "enemy civilian at 12 o'clock" at one of my playtests and they tracked me (the goody-goody civilian with loaded AK) with their guns), but the last thing: squeesing the trigger just doesn't work?

    Well i don't feel same about OFP... Actually can't, as i'm working in a Lapland war 1944 - 1945-project for OFP. But i can't wait the time that it will get converted to ArmA... As ArmA is new ruler of the kingdom ... Yes it is more demanding ruler: learn/adapt that flightmodel, shooting isn't as easy as before, controls are more demanding etc... But still it offers me a better kingdom with more opportunities. yes you could still keep improve things that has been done in OFP, but what i am talking about is another "break through", dont get me wrong, things thats new for us could still be able to created, yet the amount of scripts needed, the things that you need to add/reduce to match the needs of the old engine, the amount of time spend on making better stuffs, and the very important thing: the engine it self, all shows that there is little room for another mind blowing break through (go and try to make an 1940's era of hong kong island map in both engine, and see which could be done better) OFP is still alive, but not as kicking as she used to be Yes that is what i'm talking about too... I just can't feel bad about OFP as i have to work with it... And project is intresting so that keeps motivation up to mess around with OFP.
