    Something i just dont get.

If you open the hatch and dump 5 tons of treacle in it you also get a tank rendered useless. Also maybe the AI gunner's inability to effectively target vehicles 50% of the time is an attmept to simulate a sneaky infantryman running up and jamming a rock down the barrel. Don't forget that Brave SLA Infantry will surely twist M1's cannonbarrel to U with crowbars "1: 4, target that T-72" "4: ready to fire" "1: 4 fire!" "4: Roger!" *KA-BAM!* "4: Status red!"
  2. Has to agree that i've "seen" the same thing. Well still, i'm holding my thumbs up for CM Maybe OFP2 will take bit different aproach than ArmA.

    Fixing ArmA

Ofpforum ruled lots of things out which i'd hope to see, mostly tweakable AI related and AI's boosting in many warfaretasks. Bugs in ArmA don't bother me as much as things that are not in ArmA's AI. And those most likely are things that can't be added, or it takes lots of detication and work from BIS. Mostlikely they need engineoverhaul. EDIT: OH! So i voted for consentrating on ArmA2. And fixing some worst griefmakers in ArmA.

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

Not quite right. I've been radio-operator (Vietnam era US radio), regular grunt and squad leader in militaryexercise with markers, it was quite fun, exhausting and educating. Ofcouse using laser and actual rifles would have been even better, but for that terrain markers were quite suitable (better than airsoft). We had also machinegunners (automatic top-quality markers), platoonleaders, companycommanders(! ), APCs, AT-guys, mines, supplylogistics... You name it to company level and we most likely had it. Medics were left out, as earlier events had shown that it's not good idea is that big scale (rules has to be simple so that they are hard to be missused) It's about attitude and possibilities. And i quess i've seen more "realistic" things (that exercise) in paintball than you or me in airsoft But i'm not saying that it wouldn't be possible in airtsoft... It's just not as good solution, because of large amount of people and big firefights/battles so hit has to be visible and person has to feel it clearly, this isn't the case with airsoft.

Does supressive fire work in ArmA game?

Oh! It's MP compatible atleast somehow, i was sure it wouldn't be atall. EDIT: I don't have a glue about scripting for MP.

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

I would prefer Paintball too, but there's one big BUT... I sweat like beaten swine. This far i haven't found way to prevent loosing my visibility because of sweat droplets in the visor. Haven't had change to test thremal masks, but i doupt their effectivity in my case (lots-lots of sweat). Last time playing paintball after long break was saddening experience because of that. Airsoft's wire mask is better, i need only to worry about my glasses. From airsoftguns only thing remaining is M9 Beretta (ohh the memories with this baby). Sold my Fa-Mas and Spas-12.

    Military games other than Arma?

Airborne assault-series. In Europe it's hard to reach (so i've heard) because of publisher messes. I own first of the series, which is about operation Market Garden. Fantastic game, focusing on leading big scale battles with flexible chain-of-command. Hard to describe, but it's very much different from ordinarry militarygame. Basically i can choose to lead coprs or batallion (or something in between) to do some particular job. No need to micromanagering, if one doesn't like it. I just give them orders like: attack there. and AI will take care of the rest. Reorganizes troops, starts it aproach, reorganizes troops to assaultformation, plans the use of organic artillery and assaults! etc... Infact AI seems to do better job than human in leading the units in battle ----------- Now to "It was nice to be young and n00b... and to be easily impressed" games: ----------- Close combat II -Bridge too far. Still one of the top games. Hard to say anything bad about it. ----------- Don't know is this right genre, but UFO (or X-COM)... Aliens terrorizing small town at middle of might, i hated these missions Or plasma beam hitting troop who had ready-to-be-thrown handgrenade in his hand for assaulting dropped UFO ofcourse grenade was alien version, so massive friendly fire (more like slaugther) happened. ----------

    Expansion: Arma: Queen's Gambit

True. Contenst of expansion is somewhat average (comparing to other expansions in the gamingindustry). Then again i remember that there has been disgussing about thing that future patches for ArmA would require that expansion... So there's change that Vanilla ArmA will be droped of from the wagon of progress in future.

    Combat Mission: Shock Force

pfft it is 2 totally different games, how about play both? I mean you gotta want to shoot something yourself instead of telling people to do it for you =p Ofcourse someone can think ArmA only as FPS... I play and make missions to ArmA tactically. I expect (and try to mod it into ArmA, because of it's lacks) that AI/mission works somewhat in militarymanners and teachings under elements that are present in battlefield... both games are called simulations after all, so i see lots of similarities between these two. So no, i don't/can't see ArmA as FPS and i think i'm going to need break from it (been scripting ArmA about 1 and half years now) and play something that can be called complete.

    Combat Mission: Shock Force

Goodbye ArmA (for sometime atleast)... I'm running away with this piece of gold. It's just has everything that ArmA (sadly) has not. I'm fulfilled

What kind of exercise is this?

It's used for "brainwash" human to obidience. Swiming in frozen lake during nordic winter or forced to wash squadmates bellies etc... Everyone is doing it in form or another. So nothing tactical with that... Or atleast i hope so for sake of chinese soldiers...

    Combat Mission: Shock Force

My hotkeys works as should, no lag. I wouldn't change the camera (already love it)... But in urbanterrain this might get truly bad. Awfully lot good things from earlier combat missions have been dropped off: like xxx amount of useful hotkeys. This should be in my hometown's postoffice just same same day i get my sallary Already won two times that demo-mission as Syria with Elite difficulty... Quite easy infact: After understanding (reading the briefing properly) that US needs to attack too. Earlier i thought that they were ordered just to block my movement. I seen laziness of targeting enemies on their own happening with not so dangerous enemies. Forexample T-72s seems to open fire instantly if they spot something like US tank. But i've been testing realtime-mode so i'm not certain (no review possibility). Balanced seems to run well with my rig too (lots of smoke causes lag), but high settings causes quite severe lag.

    Combat Mission: Shock Force

Bad camera has always been weak point of combat mission-series. It takes lots of time to get used to and someones dont get used to it ever. It took me a year or two to finally adapt to it. commanding interfare isn't same as in earlier combat missions, but i handle it quite well already. Trying to beat that "official" mission (not tutorial) as Syria... Man, it's hard (almost campleted it once! ). Terrain and daytime just doesn't seem to give anything that i could use as a advantage. Well i'm still learning the system and open plains sucks. I can see forest map type...

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

I'm freaking out again... Made a mission which had attacker (small platoon) and had defender (big squad). Attacker was given guidelines of action: If enemy is spotted, halt, tie down with presence&fire then hit the flank of the sucker. They performed somewhat well. Defender was another case... Why in the H*LL they can't have even slightest clue of defence positions! I can't help it, but if ArmA is lacking this feature, i can't cope idea of ArmA being even infantry simulation. Hold-waypoint is just pathetic way to defend. This thing is regulary driving me complitely nuts. If they can use bounding overwatch and search for cover, then why can't they form even basic defencepositions. Those dumpasses are just standing there in formation and hoping that enemy wouldn't come... Atleast AI doesn't know how to sleep or start cooking dinner (boy, am i lucky!

    Combat Mission: Shock Force

Nice to be able to test tactical solutions, which i'm going to use in ArmA, thru modern combat mission (CMSF should have mission editor... Haven't checked thou). When making (good-)mission i usually make samekind map in combat mission representing ArmA's battleterrain and start deploy troops. Then transfer those positions to ArmA. It's funny how much easier (and more efficent) it is to do in combat mission. I'm not thinking and setting units by ArmA's rules, but by actual (realistic) tactical solutions. They are not optimal ofcourse, but usually i'm more saticified that way.
  21. In a way Sahrani is too flat to my liking... and in other way it is too round to my liking! I agree with dmitri: Too flat in that way (i liked high terrain detail in resistance most). But then again too much mountains in Sahrani... I somehow can't design much anykind warfare-activity to those slopes expacely in NS.

    Loudness of movement

Been thinking this for a while. And i've come to conclusion that movement doesn't generate loud voices at all. -Running or jogging is too silent, it should give away positions very easily. -(duck)walking is too too silent in many situations, like in knee tall grass, forests. But for sake of AI maybe this should be kept as it is. -crawling maybe is as it should... Ofcourse that's not realistic, but there might be severe problems for AI in this. Ofcourse tempo of ArmA would suffer more. Sneaking towards enemy positions is timeconsuming operation, 100 meters might easily take 10-30 minutes. But it would be realistic. Then again forexample flanking during combat would become too slow as fighiting ends in maximum of couple of minutes. BIS seriously should (in my mind) figure out ways to make firefights longer. Not in accuracy of shooting, but in tempo of movement and using cover. Atleast AI should be given ways to advance slowly. Right now they seem to act in same pattern, which is fine in long range combat, but is bad in close range (less than 100 meters). So my idea would that if enemy is closer than 100 meters (maybe) units start to walk more during engage-order (which thay now do too open, more stealthy style would maybe be better) and engage-order should ALWAYS consist about half of squad moving as one unit, not as mass of men in amok. And attacker's, without engage order, tempo of bounding overwatch gets dractically slower. So in short: -Sounds turned louder in some movement types (jogging and running), also random "snaps" and other sounds at some times. -tempo of AI's bounding overwatch and fulfilling engage order cut down if enemies are near. Would enable much more tactical gameplay and realitic gameplay. -stealth mode in poor visibility terrain. AI should move about 10-20 meters and halt for listening, watching.

    Loudness of movement

100 meters is consideret to be distance from which normal speaking voice can be heard (clearly) or careless/haste movement in nature. Ofcourse with noices from movement, size of unit is essential as well as many more factors. But fast/carelessly marching squad can be heard to long distances, but slowly and carefully advancing squad might not be noticeable from background noice. But demandments for AI might become too hard if ArmA would try to represent meaning of being silent and not being silent and prepresenting background noices as well. Such as bushes ad trees causing noices during wind.

    Default models too thin

Infact i think that in OFP resistance guys had that sizable rucksack (is this correct term?) which could be shot at but bullet just went past it... Not sure was it vanilla OFP or FDF's russian MVD-troops. So yeah, i think that your right in this.

    Default models too thin

My point is that military fatigues make average joes look bigger Not sure what you mean by fatigues... I'm not native english speaking... So i might understand you saying complitely wrong. But here it goes: That extra "mass" isn't flesh or bone... That stuff which needs to be hit so that one cannot function. This is what ArmA represents... It doesn't seperate flesh and cloth. If your get hit somewhere -> your dead or wounded. EDIT: Just like Abs said.
