Okay. Then i misread your post, sorry. About rest of your post... I agree with many points, all i think. My NATO-opinnion is bit twisted, most of military staff are thinking that NATO is good option, and i've read more positive (and objective! ) text supporting NATO than against NATO... Then again what will Russia do if Finland joins NATO? I see this thing as big problem to Russia, a geopolitical issue with Gulf of Finland and NATO's control over it from both Estonia and Finland's coasts near Saint Petersburg. There is so much intresting and problematic issues but i'm out of energy at the moment and rusty english ain't helping. Â EDit: Text taken away

Concentration mode when sniping : How?

Yes that how it's displayed in the game. Idea behind it is more complex, but that is being nitpicking. Idea is that player shouldn't (if idea is still the same) shoot before few seconds have passed, at that point of time players accuracy is at it's best.

Concentration mode when sniping : How?

It was said (before release of ArmA) to be such that there few seconds delay after it works optimal and you can't hold it for too long as after that it's effect kinda wears out and even makes it harder to hit. It's to simulate certain metabolic things (like eye's ability to focus) when trying to shoot accurately... If i remember right. Infact i don't know does it have that big effect on accuracy after all... Over time i didn't use it anymore.

So Britain who had been allied with Russia against the Germans (and before that the French), decided to back the half of the Russian civil war that wasn't backed by the Germans. (The so called "counter revolutionaries"). You said that Britain backed the Russian Revolution which was during WW1. Remember Russia was on our side at this time tying a significant number of Germans down at the East. It would make no sense for Britain to support the revolution which would take Russia out of the war releasing loads of Germans to the Western Front. I haven't studied the period, but in the movie (I know, I know) the machine guns they get to storm the palace with come from British backers at the embassy. I think the bulk of the counter revolutionaries action takes place after the end of WW1. From what I could find on Google it pretty much seemed to support your case for backing the counter revolutionaries. It didn;t seem to be a very united policy however, more sort of regionally based. Backing whatever particular warlord had control of the area's of strategic importance to us rather than a defined foreign policy towards a recognised government. Still open to find out more, all hints gratefully recieved. Well atleast my country, Finland, got diplomatic shaking from UK goverment after ww1 as they were waging small (unofficial) war against Lenin's side in Karelia. Atleast if my memory serves right it was UK which did this. About Georgia and Russia's motives. Like Baddo stated earlier, Russia's actions in Georgia by far were related to NATO. We (atleast Finns and possibly Swedes aswell) have had quite harsh comments about joining into NATO, could say that they are quite openly threathining to reply with force. As long as i remember Russia's tone in this issue has not been so harsh and openly hostile as now.

What small details would you like to see?

Hellop: The difficulty is to refine good idea into good working script which handles everything ArmA-universe throws at it (and handles it well), that is something which is very hard to speculate before testing. Besides we definely have difference in point of view of what is forexample recon behaviour fo rairplane or what is good tactical position etc. I've tried and failed and i'm not willing to discuss any more about it.

Considering you never exactly explain why this evil was necessary, of just how exactly his seemingly purposeless acts of murder saved those you love, all that still doesnt really account for his motivation now does it? I mean, if I was a raging anti-Semite, I could repeat most of what you said about the holocaust. Unless of course you don't care what other people think about Stalin and you're asserting that you admire him, which is barely a half-step up from what Spokesperson is doing. +1

Where are you from? When were you born? Sorry for not reading the entire topic, but upon reading this, I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was awake, not to mention sober. I'd like to add to this. alot of people having whining about the USSR and how they miss the 'old ways'. I'd be willing to be alot of the people here were not born or too young to remember what it was like to live in Communist Russia. Many former citizens of East-german does wish that it wouldn't have collapsed. You see: living standarts gone bad after that. I remember what kind picture i've had about Russian (as it western neibourg) for last 20 years: Poor. Not the same it was earlier. I've heard what some people behind border say. They say that time during Sovet union were good times compared to current. I dont' understand how someone can think that (some) people doesn't wish Soviet union to come back? Some blind westerns who thinks that revolution is just mild thing which doesn't have effect on humans' lives? Russia was (maybe still is) main example of capitalism gone very bad.

But you could have it a lot better, if nobody got richer on your expense. Maybe. I won't say that system i live in is perfect. However i can't see how it could be any better. Risks in altering it are too great.

If yor not leader (=Shepherd) then your sheep as well. Or it there something else... Herding dog maybe? I'm sheep, no arguing with that. As long as ruling class makes sure that i'm happy i do not wish to revolt (=escape my pasture). I'm quite happy now.

Okay i think it's time for reality check. Spokesperson sees that he is the Joker, the One Who Sees Things Behind Fog, the Falcon i.e the Truthseer, maybe even as the One Who Leads All. While those who are against him are just Lambs, the Herd, The Ones Who Are Lowest of All... Yes he, the Spokeperson, sees you as the ugly, dirty and un-educated peasant folk from dark age which has gathered behind village priest and is holding hatches, ropes, torces as it gets closer to Witch (=communist) who knows things better than Priest (=capitalist). Spokeperson, do you fantasise youself as Stalin or Castro ever?

What small details would you like to see?

Yes. Easy to script with even current scripting commands. Altough the way they search cover is bit odd and many times dumb + ignores some very good covertypes like terrain's forms and buildings. Not upto modern standarts anymore. Not easy to script. In fact it's quite impossible with current scripting commands if we take individual soldier's point of view. How do you teach to AI a basics of good tactical position (what ever that may be in different situations, or is it wise to hold positions or move). However it's possible to halt them and order to take cover and restart moving only after there are no known enemies. That is something, however i wouldn't call it smart (=good) tactical position, as i've seen it too many times to turn against it's user. There are very specific commands for many "subskills" of AIs, but they are still inactive. That would make it very possible to give certain minuses for certain weapons if user is not specialist. It's doable at moment but it's quite poor way, yes that's setskill and i think SLX did it to atleast player with setfuel when modelling suppression (made player fatigued). How? Overall: I'm not claiming to be expert on AI: There's alot room for innovations.

    Fww2 - finland at war 1939-1945

Define winterequipment for finns As troops could have complete set, like fur capped guys and helmet wearing guys in picture, or just cockade in their (civilian) cap or somekind mix in between. And as most finns at that time had to resist those same elements in their daily work they probably had better winter equipement in their homes than Army could give them. Basically all they needed was cockade, weapon, bounches for bullets, skis (if not brought from home) and snowsuit. And by photos it seems that Von Rundstedt has got facts right when it comes to authetic gear (some well equiped by army) finns wore at that time. And i don't see any problem with gear finns wore in those pictures i've seen. After all i wore almost same clothing during my service in arctic heights and during one of the coldest winters in last century. We didn't wear high-tech clothing, but based or clothing on same princibles than also men during winterwar did. So: -Yes: Cloves are not necessarity. It's better to have good pair(s) of mittens and learn to use them always. Cloves are good thing sometimes, but not necessarity, unlike mittens. Then again ArmA doesn't support (creative) use of mittens. -Yes. Most likely all troops didnt' have issued helmets. Mostlikely all troops didnt' even wear helmets issued to them (same during -41 by some infosources). Troops might sometimes wish to see and hear better instead of getting insufficent protection from rifle's bullets.Again Arma doesn't support switching heltmes on/off. -Yes. Clothing might seem to be light, because that is what it is: Warm and light. Greatcoats are only usable during long freezing nights, when you are in your guardpost and trying to remain somewhat still. Besides winterwar had different conditions at different times and locations, ranging from minor -10 to extreme -40-50 celsius. EDIT: I'm not participant of FWW2 project. Just paying keen eye.

Gimme more disasters like that anytime. Paid 30 euros almost 2 years ago, and still having fun with it now... Not to say it was perfect, but why the hatred suddenly ? At least, it exists and you can play with it. On the other hand, OFP2 is still 6 months away at minimum (probably, more as ususal) and will cost you about twice as much (60 euros or even more on consoles seeing how COD4, Crysis or GTA4 were priced) It's unfair to compare a 2009/2010 game with a 2006 game. According to the date you joined the forums you didn't play OFP as long as many others. And I can tell you: I couldn't finish one mission in ArmAs editor because I did all this for 5 years already and I want something new! I tried 6 months to make ArmA different than OFP was and after that time i grew weary, sad & angry. If i wouldn't have played OFP atall, ArmA most likely would still be my top game. Just like OFP was. For that reason and for what Suma said about ArmA2 i'm looking more for OFP2... But who knows. Overall i'm guite happy with Brother in Arms and Vietcong at the moment. Sadly they dont' have proper mission building tools... Really sucks!

    Ai thread

Sounds like ArmA has it's 'open fire - engage at will' corrected to be again OFP-like. In OFP this was the case: At dark night AI could actually hide from something like tent if having 'open fire - engage at will' and refuse to move as long as it was unsure what was the object it saw. yes i've withnessed this: they remained WHOLE night in forest and didnt' come out to open because ONE MEDICAL TENT (yup. I blew it up eventually with handgrenades). Yeah, sometimes it worked like miracle for combat's atmospehere and sometimes with something like that medical tent or hostile object it didnt' work at all. Enemy tank seen at forexample 2-4 kilometers could cause whole front to freeze and seek cover, and they would remain there as long as any enemy were seen. Overall i think this is still one of those unbeatable aspects of OFP's AI. No other game offers this kind selfpreservance for AI... and besides AI could be two extremes: regular aggressive active self or passive selfpreservant self. However this strong point in OFP's AI was never really used in missions by my experience. In ArmA with versions i've played (1.09 beta and earlier) it didn't work this way. Combat behaviour FSM most likely mixed with this 'take cover' feature from OFP if combatmode was set to 'open fire - engage at will' : AI had 'move'-order and 'hide'-order issued every second. Resulting strange atempt to get moving and hide during each passing second. Well it took quite a moment for BIS to fix this thing if it's true what Charonos has seen and it has been in vanilla ArmA, where some addons or mods are not doing their things. I had to resolve this in suppression scripts by issuing 'dostop this' to AI before telling them to go hiding... Combat behaviour FSM didnt' seem to interupt with this (most likely because of dostop). Result -> AI actually was able to hide as FSM wasn't forcing it to get moving. Ps. I've played ArmA just long time ago (version 1.09) so i don't really know what changes has been made. I just comment on basis which i understanding to be the case. I'm not necessarily right. So basic formula in this case is: enemy seen -> hide order issued. Enemy not seen in couple of minutes -> hide order canceled. And basic cure is: Dont give AI 'open fire - engage at will', in other words combatmode "red", if wishing to keep grunts movings.

Didn't know that Russia have only small numbers of soldiers and other military things.... You might be supprised to know that this indeed is the case in few years. After revolution in 90s Russia has been able to buy only small amounts of military gear. They haven't had money to even keep up what they got. Tanks, ships, airplanes, etc.etc.etc. are in poor shape already. Militarybudget isnt' too big even currently, it's smaller than France's military budget (compare the size of land mass, siize of army and population of those two contries). How many units are capable to form combatunit cabapable to fight in less than weeks or months? And how many needs that time just to get their vehicles working? Besides russian military is riddled with social poorness. Too low amount of money to correct things, like poor livingstandarts of officers (and moving to professional soldiers doesn't make anygood for officers paychecks). This makes things even more uncertain, it can hamper down will-to-fight of even the well equipped combatunits. Russian's worst threat doesn't come outside but from inside currently. I see no reason to play fool daredevil trying to sort it alone. About rest, i think there have been pretty good answers. Ofcourse US involved and that part of story-line in this incident aswell is just damn shame. But then again that is very common, and i don't expect CM or BIS to be anydifferent from others.

Built in Revives in ArmA 2!?

Infact when thinking about OFP/ArmA community i think general impression i'm having is that things have turned more arcadey, and most of people are infact happy about it. JIP and respawn particularry has made this come thru. When it comes to revives... Well, anything beats respawn, ecpacely when it has been watered down well: -5-30 seconds waiting after death. -large selection of kit available after the respawn in weapon boxes. -insane difficulty level: hundrens or thousands of AI troops to be slaugthered by ~10 players, who respawns about 100-300 times during "mission". -JIP allowing hours lasting frag fests, which reminds me more from my nightmares in childhood than good games/missions i've played. Those never ending nightmares which had this feeling that they will not end ever. I've played few mission like this in ArmA... Infact: all MP missions (exept that coop in demo) which i have played were like this. Anything, be it heavenly intervention, revive, healing potions, healing white-magic (lets add black magic too), healing over time and all sorts of other feature beats what my experiences with ArmA mostly have been with respawn and JIP. God i miss OFP coops... Each day more and more.

Fonts and controller... My-my-my. I know one too, it's pox. It spreads from hands of gamey console-gamers to hands of hard-core PC-gamers. Games made for both consoles and PC are what makes it to spread. Remeber to wash your hands folks. More hotter is better. Or wear rubber gloves. Not flaming but...

Sorry but i've been user, builder, optimizer of my own PCs for 15 years. If that doesn't make me enough in the 'level of aptitude' then i'm bit confused. Yes i'm not claiming that i'm expert (anymore), but i think i have idea of what are the problems when i comfront ones, usually. Like how? Yes it's possible that in someway they are, like modding or view distance (compared to high end PCs), but i would still be seeing mostly same kind if product. A proof? OFP Elite? Oblivion's Developers said that Oblivion wasn't scaled down because of Xbox 360. -I know that high-end PC is different beast, but most of us are still using average level PCs and that is something which is scaling down PC game developement as games are aimed at these guys too. I'm sorry that we are using poor PCs -And i've read few small dev-team in game business to curse the fact that extra resources are drawn form makeing game better (like squashing bugs) to get games to work with big amount of different hardware

    The rainbow six covering system

It would be more if they, the AI, finally would understand on their own that they can take better cover inside house than outside house. Really, there is no need to crawl out of door to hide in closest bush when lead starts flying. Overall they could finally understand that buildings in general does work as cover. dunno i haven't played newest rainbox six (only the first one), but i think this is the first thing

Yes. PC usually comes with bloated Windows. For PC's bloatness (compared to price) and technical problems (compared to price) i could turn to consoles, most of my best games ever has, for some reason, desided to not work with my newish rig. Sadly i'm (computer) wargamer and consoles aren't much offering games for my taste.

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R

Yup. Yantar is worst area when it comes to snorks. But personally i hate bloodsuckers more. had "fun" with one of those in small village at night in 'Warehouse'-district, i had NVGs and shotgun but that didn't give me much comfort, bloodsucker has nasty way of roaring now and then. It really actually wasn't much fun, it was freaking horrible! (my character is already alcoholic, i myself will soon be aswell) ... And those are harder to snipe at distance than snorks. Well Controllers and all kinds geists are even worse but luckly they are rare. Game is quite good, worst thing i can think of are too small areas. Two times more space for each area would have been quite okay. Now they feel too much compressed, awfully lot of action packed into small area. Then again no 'fast travel'-option and each trip across two areas costed much in ammo and healthing supplies + the time it took on foot is already an issue (in vanilla Stalker). If trying to play with hasty way, like i didn't play the first playthru time. My 2nd try is much more relaxed and i do enjoy traveling in game, well i can spent half an hour to turn my Jeep on it's wheels after slight accident on road which turned my jeep upside down. Oblivion lost mod in use right now.
