Switching between Scope/Ironsights
Second replied to welcome to hell's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Because ACOG it self works pretty well in CQB. Two eyes open. AGOC we have has red reticule, that is visible and when you insert it on to what you see with other eye, voila! Atleast that is the official story, i haven't had change to try it. But seem to work pretty well with other optics i've tried, alought they dont' have this red spot. Probably not as good as ironsights or aimpoint for that matter (however better than emergency sights they removed, it seems ), but much better than ArmA at the moment. ArmA won't get this right as there is just one eye, one monitor. Same with aimpoint. -
Dunno what people can tell, only speculate. AI hasn't much showed new things in time of your both absence. Latest "pure" show of AI is about year old leaning video. After that... hmm... i think evidence of AI having something brain-melting new features is zero, nothing, void, emptiness or in another words: dark wasteland. Micro-AI to me right now is just newest hype thing without proof of what it will become. Bit like All-Mighty, Possibilities Unlimitless, Hand of God Himself .FSM back in good ol' days. Hard to say about animations, should be able to play with them. They seem to be fluid in videos, well at least some of them. There seems to be different hand positions related to weapons like rifle with grenade launcher.

Can you send it to me if your not using it now? Should be already pretty cheap if your interested to buy it from some local store ArmA i mean, dunno about ArmA2 thou

And i've uninstalled it once

Yup. This is my main consern. There will be changes but are they drastic enough to make gameplay (in firefights mostly) feel new instead of OFP-like? Right now i'm holding my horses. LOL Right now i'm mostly satisfying my firefight-urge with Medal of Humor: Airborne. Which is bit pathetic, but right now when Vietcong ain't working on my Vista i'm forced to play it. And tweaking AI values like aggressiveness and weapondamages seems to be pretty easy.

No thank you to realistic sounds. I had my right ear ringing for several months, it's nuisance really. Listening whole life-time of that might make me nuts. Last nail in coffin was when one guy accidentally discharged his weapon 1 meters away from my right ear while barrel was directed to my overall direction (Learn to keep safety on you freaking baboons! ). At distance over few meters even it ain't that bad but if barrel is bit behind you, like 1-2 meters to 4 o'clock (while firing past you, to 12 o'clock), it is whole another thing.

I'd expect vehicles to perform pretty much as arcadey as they have before. Painting devils to walls, but i'm more and more skeptical of this whole AI thing. There is nothing, except some over year old leaning videos. I just wish BIS could bring alot of improvements to infantry-AI. Ofcourse some of these improvements could/might be added to vehicle-AI as well.

Present me a piece of AI code which understands attack helos hovering 3 km away destroying every vehicle in sight. You can't? Oh, damn. Maybe we should remove attack helicopters from this game all together seeing as how AI doesn't know how to use them effectively. You indeed are just as downgraded as your posts seems to suggest. Am i suggesting that tanks should be taken away? I make this clear to you: No. N-O. And in slow manner; N ... do you follow me yet? .... O is NO. Lets try again shall we: N + O = NO

Not again. Some just please present me piece of AI code which understands to go for flanks.

One question that MANY fans care about.

Why if it's scared it would go at chopper and look at it interestedly? Cow-AI needing bit tweaking Like i said it moves too fast while step remains too light. Young light weighting cows might move bit like that, but not older ones. Ofcourse it can be that BIS has just walk and possibly run animations and not anything in between. No need for so complex animation structure for such marginal things as cows. Not biggie that cow animation thou. Human animations aren't 100% correct either. -

About cows... Something is wrong in their animations. Fast movement but yet light while moving (it's like they walked at jogging speed) and mostly lacking sway of udders! Red cow in end had biggish udder, those things sways let me be telling you. That is all i can tell. They looked nice overall. Only thing really bothering me was animations where that Marine walked away from his HMMWV, using safe behaviour. God i hate that animation, have hated it for year already. And also too "stiff" while walking in general seemed bit odd when women (older ones with head wear) entered church in 1:04. Young babes looked hot (i like) atlough unhappy (i don't care, as long as they are pretty). Overall looked nice. I could imagine that being part of intro to campaign itself. -

You made up much better name Mine was 'Neo-Aliens Pacify by Assault' which is so lame sound in it that i didnt' post it.... Damn i posted it after all It wasn't that simple, that is situation in war's end. Croatians fought against Bosniaks in -93. Were they having alliance with serbs for that brief time, i don't know for sure. I haven't seen any info about having such. UN was third party in war, it didn't form any kind official or unofficial alliances to any side. UN Peacekeepers form various countries on ground gave it also physical presence in war. As a side note: While trying to just tone down war UN was doing favor to Serbia by it's ban of weapon shipment for any side involved in war (Bosniaks were in desperate need of weapons, Serbia wasn't). This was source of major anger to Bosniaks towards UN and i'm not sure how they feel about whole organization these days. -
Anyone else still playing old/retro games?

Second replied to berghoff's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Was that the one with futuristic helos? Yes! Exactly. The first one was called Havoc (with the blue engines) and the second, the really cool one, Venom (red engines)... Ahhh such a great game Didn't EU invade and take over USA in that game? It got good scores in reviews if i remember right. I didnt' buy it, my rig was useless those days. I'm not much playing retro games. Mostly just golden memories from those days... But that is what they are, memories. UFO 2 (X-COM 2) that underwater Aliens vs Mankind thing might be latest which i played last year, not much different from 1st one. Just that it mostly happens in underwater and names and outlook of things has changed. That i only even closely retro or old game i've played in a long time (mind you, i started my gaming hobby in year of 1990 with C-64, so 2D jumping games with ugly outlooks are only which i count to belong into "pure" retro-class)... Well Hidden & Dangerous might be another. It's tens years old so it's semi-old. No? ... Well i play relatively old Japanese action/adventure-games, like Final Fantasy and others. But most of those are not retro or even old. Just old looking. -
Why not? We did for Arma. Â Sadly there is so few of us Compared to them (who didn't)

I played AA they said i'm an pathetic idiot (either my team mates or game, i really don't know) and based on that i will say that it's game for idiots only.

Is this like William Porter's blog? It was supposed to indicate ArmA's release, wasn't it? However William sort of lagged behind... Well he was middle of war and all, so i guess that explain a lot. -
There have been more informative/important/[select positive adjective] threads which has got locked, for reason to be too offtopic for offtopic. So i'd agree with MehMan there are changes for lock based on previous experiences. Ofcourse it hasn't been locked yet, so... We might be wrong.  Shite!!! I've have changes of getting banned  EDIT; Ps. I'm not criticing... Merely being analytic.

Is Altavista still alive? I used it alot back in -99 while at college. I was much more pleased to search results it gave me compared to Google. I believe it was -02 when i found internet again when i went back to school. At that point of time Google seemed to be far superiour.
-
True. Like with squad leader. He might be most potent combatant of squad but still his task is more about using his brains and spending less time looking thru ironsights/optics. Ofcourse it might vary alot, due persons and situation. But as general rule of thumb of "how it should be done" this probably is best way.

But will ArmA model vehicles as much? I don't think so. So we probably have just gun, hull and turret in frontal armor, no small optics or such. Besides Steel Beasts is tank sim, with focus in tanks. Infantry works differently and ArmA2 focuses more on infantry. There is for example Combat Mission: Shock Force (wargame) where AI thinks about usefulness to use grappy PG-7 at M1A2 Abrams' frontal armor, because at most it might take damage optics and just result in M1A2 firing at RPG-gunner, which might cost lives of whole squad ofthat particular RPG-gunner. Not very wise. Faguss: There is always change for frontal penetration in reality (better or worse, but there it is), BMP-2's 30mm AP has change to penetrate T-72's turret from front (has happened in tests). However these are slim changes and because of this armies do train that which weapon and warhead has change to penetrate which targets, and should gunner seek for flank shots. Sure if situation is that tank is coming full speed at soldier then training might not apply because soldier might panic and try to get lucky shot. EDIT: As a general info lets' take this consideration of flank shots to "extreme heights" of usefulness of it: We have infantry platoon (3 squads) formed on V-shaped hill. They form consentrated killzone into valley inside V-shape (basically all of them, including AT-weapons, can fire into valley). In that valley there is 3 tanks in Wedge-formation. Now. without consideration of flank shots, our AT-guys starts to fire easiest tanks for them to hit, which means that they shoot closest tank, which means that when tanks are in wedge, their frontal armor is directed at closest infantry-squad. So basically idiotic At-guys fires at frontal armors. Now. With consideration of flank shots, our AT-guys don't act as stupidly, as they know that they can't much do harm to closest tank (150 meters). Then again at distance of 200-250 meters there is tank which side is exposed to them and their AT-weapons. Now they sum 1+1. Catching my drift, eh?
-
Reason i brought this up early in thois thread is that hopefully people can maybe understand why just penetration model isn't enough (before bitching and whining about lack of it), and why it probably just ruins whole game outside pure PvP. True, only BIS AI-coders knows how AI can be made to understand importance of getting flank shots and how to gain change for flank shots.
-
Could someone first post here piece of code which explain to AI that it's idiotic to fire at frontal armor of tank because it can just scratch it and it's better to wait or fire at another tank which has flank exposed. Enough said and thank you.
