  1. Well, there was that part in the video of the single player demo sent to previewers where the soldier moved to close to the burning tank and it said something like "Ouch! The fire is hot!". Remember?

So it is possible that BI is trying to include some of those things that you want in ArmA.

  2. I approve of the music by Vangelis (he is awesome, after all).  I only knew him from "Chariots of Fire" before.  Now I want to know where I can download that entire song from your trailer.

edit: Do you know what it's called? The title of the track wasn't in the trailer.

  3. Yes, these guys from the magazines trend to forget the most important part related to graphics that while some other FPS have definitly better graphics than ArmA they DON'T have maps with 400 Square Kilometers and these other FPS usually play thru corridors path while in ArmA you have total freedom of movements!

If you had lets for example the graphics of F.E.A.R. into ArmA (with all it's freedom and ability to play with many diferent vehicles such as Helos, Aircraft, Tanks, etc...) the game would certainly be UNPLAYABLE even in the most advanced PC configuration! I wonder why these so-called game experts trend to forget such an important thing?  icon_rolleyes.gif

I can sympathize. It's not like PC zone bashes anything with less than cutting edge graphics, but people will begin to get annoyed when game mags continuously point out how ArmA currently looks. The huge environments weren't enough? They also demand leading graphics? You can't have it both ways!

It's not that games with better visuals and smaller maps are no good. It's just that they're treated as the favorite child and that inevitably stirs a bit of resentment from this community.

  4. I have an idea.

In ArmA or Game2's manual, BI should include a section with brief lessons in basic tactics that would come in handy in-game. This is like the Skip Barber racing lesson in Gran Turismo 3's manual and the lessons in the manual for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator. They could even include quoted tips from real soldiers in the same way that the Combat Flight Simulator's manual contained tips from former WWII pilots.

Most people that will play ArmA, including me, have no real life military experience nor do we know the first thing about combat tactics. Given any situation, I would like to decide on a course of action that a real soldier might take under similar circumstances. A little introductory lesson could get us started on the right foot. After all, "knowing is half the battle", right?

  5. I dont unerstand what you mean by A.I is most important, do you mean the  AI  , where they are complete mongloids but they can see and shoot a roach  at 5 km

Well, it was supposed to have been pretty impressive when OFP first came out.

  6. Here is my attempt

Alright! Now we should have no problem telling which country's gov't is friendly with us.

Bravo, those flags will work for now, but the North is looking to change its flag to read "N & S".

Aeon, your flags look great. The northern flag looks better than the real one in the game.

  7. Wow, it's really cool that Mr. Pearson mentioned your article.

I was impressed by the organized presentation and the video clips to back up your points. Your high school teachers must be proud. A+.

    By the way:

Your Action-Action Reports are interesting to read, but I wish there were some video clips to go along with them. Your narrative builds the mood so well that I wish I could see it in video for myself.

  8. While reading the forums I began to wonder how some of the posters came up with their user names. Many of the names are pretty interesting, so go ahead and explain how you thought of yours. Bonus points to those that have cool stories behind the origins of their user names.

    I'll go first:

"Stendac" is a misspelling of "Stendec", the final word in the last morse code radio transmission sent by Star Dust. Star Dust was a British plane that disappeared in 1947 on its way to Chile. The wreckage was discovered decades later in 1998, but the meaning of the word "Stendec" is still a bit of a mystery.

  9. I think that the experience gained here, being a PR guy for BIS might be useful later in the marriage....

"Where is the new electric barbeque starter I`ve just bought Paul?"

"I don`t know darling, please ask the correct person and search before asking."

    lol.

And if the surprise is a publisher for Game2 (and ArmA), that'll be really cool. Because that wouldn't be specifically about ArmA, right?

Then again maybe that is too ArmA related.

By the way, when did OFP finally secure Codemasters as its publisher? Was it a short time before the release or many months in advance?

  10. Read the bold. It's been 5 years. Hardly any game can boast the playerbase OFP has after 5 years.

No, I don't mean they don't play OFP anymore; I mean that many people have never heard of Flashpoint at all. None of my friends had any idea what OFP was. Sad, huh? So I bought Elite for one of them.

Yup, showing WIP ArmA screencaps to random strangers on the streets, just preaching the good news.

  11. The question is are the reflections showing what is around them or a loaded texture? I'll give an example, yes I must use bf2 once more. Okay so I was staring at the cobra's cockpit glass one day on the carrier and noticed some hills,I looked around and we were in an ocean,ah well. So the next round I take a look at the blackhawks glass while at mashtur city, well I noticed buildings,so I parked it in the desert with nothing but trees and I still saw buildings.

I know what you mean. I noticed this too while looking at the reflections in the scope of my gun.

    Quote[/b] ]"2 ready"

    "3 ready"

    "4 ready"

    "5 ready"

    "1, 2 engine on"

    "2 roger!"

    "oh no, 5 is down"

    lol You said it man.

  12. OFP has been out for 5 years now, and the playerbase is still huge.

Not huge enough. I don't know a single person around me that has OFP. In fact, it was only by good fortune that I happened to get my hands on the game myself. When I bought it I knew nothing about it and had no idea if it would be any good at all. It was one of the few games that was left on the shelves during a Walmart closing sale.

When Elite came out I never found it in any of the stores I visited. However, I later found a single used copy in a GameStop.

I hope ArmA's publisher has a nice little ad campaign so I can watch the pretty adverts on the TV.

  13. And finally, LAW and RPG-18 as one shot disposable launcher.

If BIS decides to make this change, it will have to come with a change in the damage system for tanks. In OFP, a single rocket is useless against a MBT because of the health point system. It takes 6+ RPGs/LAWs to knock out a tank. However, if you could use your launcher to immobilize the tank by hitting the treads or kill the driver by nailing the scope then the disposable launcher system would be fine.

I dunno what the new damage system in ArmA is gonna be like. I don't remember how it worked in Elite. Does anyone know?

One more thing: Did you guys think the launchers in OFP were too accurate?

  14. That is very important to have Terrain Lod, because it would allow ArmA to have a realistic accurate human scale terrain (without performance drop), where infantery could duck in any gaps and holes they found when under fire. Right now Arma doesn't support that gameplay. Ofp does

As you can see Ofp is much more realist, and the gameplay (motions & action possible with the only terrain) is completly different.

Don't jump the gun. It's too soon to say that. C'mon, we haven't seen the whole island yet in Armed Assault. Besides, OFP had its share of flat terrain too.

As far as bumpy terrain (with gaps and holes) being more realistic: Not necessarily.

  15. Hey, it would be cool if the type of camo worn actually makes a difference during the game. ArmA would give you a choice between the ACU or the old BDUs. Players would begin to favor the ACU after deciding for themselves that it is more effective than BDUs.

You could dress yourself with the old BDU if you really wanted to, but it would be generally understood that the ACU is a more effective camouflage.

  16. That old picture of the T72s and the BMP-2 was really excellent. Anybody want to take a guess as to what the next screenshots will show off? It might be another glimpse of the new building interiors.

By the way, can someone explain placebo's new avatar? That red cross in the background looks like the flag of England. But what emblem is that?
