1. Yeah, I'm an American, but I'm planning to wait until the US version comes out (if BI ever finds a publisher for us). I'm at school now and my laptop couldn't run the game anyway, so I might as well wait, right?

If somebody makes an awesome zombie mod for ArmA I'll be thrilled.

  2. by the way im talking infantry only ctf here not tanks n stuff coop clans play it that way lol. biggrin_o.gif

like i said too many coop players in here biggrin_o.gif

Well, it's because CTF didn't really play off of the strong points of OFP. You couldn't lean, the G36 had god-like accuracy (and killing power), and the game wasn't really geared for close quarters combat.

There is a multitude of games that offer the CTF game mode. So If you're going to play CTF, why do it in OFP?

Quote[/b] ]Ive really got to say this game is aimed souly at coop players / clans.

This was the truth for OFP as well.

  3. Ive really got to say this game is aimed souly at coop players / clans. And for the ctf clans / players there is going to be a BIG!!! dissapointment the way they have set the controls in arma makes for a very slow paced game and less control over the way you move and shoot. its alot lot different from the ofp moves / controls we all know and love that gives us the ability to play a fast paced ctf match and this is the truth!!! they should have left the origional controls and movements alone many many people said this during its production!! but on a good note the graphics are absolutly mind blowing top marks for that! but the future of ctf clans looks very shaky indeed!! unless they are willing for one big change in the way they are used to fighting and me myself as a ctf clan leader am not going to support this game for me its been a 2 year dissapointment. sad_o.gif and ive heard a few other guys say the exact same all ctf players sorry guys sad_o.gif

    CTF in OFP was overrated.

  4. The absurdity of the situation regarding Armed Assault and it's inability to be played by people who are willing to hand over at least 50 US dollars (and most likely a helluva a lot more) tends to make me believe that BIS is incompetent, at best, in marketing it's product.

The fact of the matter is that Armed Assault is the sequel to a game which won game of the year honors bestowed upon it by some very big names in the gaming world. That in and of itself would seemingly propel the sequel to OFP to major news status. BIS has a hit a home run with the first game and when the follow on game is released, they claim they can't find a US publisher. And whose fault is that? As a result, we have people in the US contacting europeans to send them a copy and other such ridiculous situations.

I don't believe BIS would know a marketing plan if it hit them between the eyes. I don't particularly care when it's released as I don't have the time to invest in the near future to play it, but it strikes me as a lesson in how not to run a company.

Wow, you're just a marketing wizard aren't you?

Like others have said, OFP sits in relative obscurity in the US. It's sad, but true. Publishers aren't hot on PC games right now, since all the buzz is around consoles.

And another thing: even if BIS won awards for the original OFP, who cares? That was years ago. YEARS. It doesn't do as much as you think when you try to find a publisher for your new game.

  5. Ugh...god...noo....that 134 ai vid was really disapppointing sad_o.gif The stupid, cumbersome, crappy old ofp command system is still there! I thought they said there was going to a new, brothers-in-arms style command system. I thought directing flanks and supresses could be really cool with the new ai. Too bad its going to be hell and simply not fun sad_o.gif

I never quite understood why they called ofp and arma "tactical shooters" when the command system is far to limited and crappy to actually perform basic tactical movements without your AI being too stupid to listen to you and survive.

    What are you talking about?

Of course ordering around 134 AI soldiers is going to be cumbersome. Have you ever tried organizing 134 people and getting them to do what you want them to do in real life? Hell, it's hard even with 30 people!

As for the BIA command system, I'm not sure how that would work in ArmA. It's very fluid and efficient for a small 6-man squad shooter a game like Brothers in Arms, with relatively restrictive environments. But it would probably break down once you increase the number of soldiers under command and apply it to wide open, free-roaming maps.

What makes you think that you can't flank or suppress with your squad in ArmA? For god's sake, you haven't even tried it yet. In Elite you could assign squad members to different teams and send them into flanking positions.

  6. The new AI is interesting. They seem to work together much better than OFP, so a team of them is more than the sum of their parts.

Their reaction time, of course, is still much slower than a human player's. But, I think that if they made AI's as quick as a person they would be formidable to say the least. Heck, they'd mop the floor with me. It would be a bit discouraging.

  7. The bombs which the ArmA Harrier is equipped with are definitely LGBs, you can see the attachment on the front which detects the laser spot, so I agree with Barely-injured that the way they are employed in that video is pretty unrealistic. Perhaps they just drop them even if there isnt a laser spot, like you can do with OFP LGBs? Hmmm but AI never drops LGBs in OFP unless they have a laser spot huh.gif

Either way, I guess it's not a big deal, just another realism issue which BIS haven't deemed important enough to implement in the game...

Hmmm, you're right. Still using LGB's, eh? How 20th century.

The physics of it sounds kind of tricky. You'd have to line up precisely for an attack run on the target and the harrier's computer would tell you when to release the bomb? Maybe bad weather could make it harder too.

Actually, that sounds kind of cool if it were simulated in a game, even if a little too difficult for the casual gamer.

Does anyone know of any flight sims that accurately simulate this?

  8. Awsome Videos and as always nice work BIS smile_o.gif

However I cant help it but "just a little bit" point out something that bugs me, so here it goes:

Umm Please correct me if I am wrong but I dont think that LGBs can be employed like this, first it shouldnt be lunched in salvos like this and second it is supposed to be a laser designated target (( i.e just one building )) and the plane should be at a higher altitude so that it can keep laser pointing at the target, and also the crew would most of the time have to circle the target while the bomb is still in mid air again just to keep the laser pointed at the target.

Ok before you go flaming me I will say I am very happy with the air strike model as it is, it is just that it seems to me that thats an unguided bombing run, so the solution would simply be replacing the LGB bombs models with Mk82s without changing anything else.

"go hide behind a big rock"

Perhaps the bombs were actually JDAMs and therefore the aircraft would not have to keep any laser pointed at the target.

Bombs usually aren't employed that way I guess, but it was only a demonstration. A good question might be, " Could I target single houses with precision if I wanted to?"

  9. But about the smoke and dust to last longer for like 10 minutes......I dont know.

If all smoke and dust last for 10 minutes you might have a very dusty and smoking surroundings I think, and probably will lag like hell. huh.gif

But at least a bit longer should be much nicer indeed smile_o.gif

    Yes i see your point.

but if BIS want ARMA as realistic as they said they better put more time for smoke (5-10 mins).

if BIS put only few secounds it will not cause impact enough, and airstrike will considered as an another common thing added to the game. Will be an ordinary simple thing.

BIS is moving to the right path.

It would be more realistic for smoke to hang around longer. But it's not just a performance issue; it's a gameplay issue as well. It's kind of hard to fight in a cloud of dust and it's not as cool in a game as it is in real life.

    Compromises had to be made.

  10. We already know the grass provides no concealment

Ohh no don't say this, that was my second "fear" confused_o.gif

If it's low grass I can understand but in high grass you should be concealed. Lets hope BIS have it on their "to-do" list! I mean OFP needed quite a few patches before it shaped up to be what it is today - the best FPS so far!

I know we are an impatience bunch of guys/gals looking high and low for answers since the Czech release last friday but one thing I don't get... Why do we need to work so hard to just find small bits and pieces of official info about ArmA's features?

When OFP was released there was lenghty web-page/s describing every (almost) feature, every weapon, vehicle etc. was listed, also thoose features and weapons/vehicles that was planned to be added later on with patches. Maybe this is the publishers job and not really the dev's but none of the publishers seems to offer it?

Why are we left to have to dissect every user made videos/pics (and most likely come up with some wrong conclusions) instead of a proper and lenghty official product description?

    /KC

PS: Sorry for venting, hope I don't cross any unseen boundaries tounge2.gif

I think it has already been announced that BIS made some sort of work around solution for the grass concealment problem. I don't know how it works though.

  11. primary objectives: Improve AI, invisible walls, game play, improve Lag

    secondary objectives: Graphics, animations.

its fair enough to me that they don't focus on those animations.

as they said: "if we going to make the game as we want to the game would be ready in 2010 or more."

Said the guy who argued for an animated trigger finger.

But yeah, I bet the magic hands won't bother you anymore after you play the Armed Assault for a while. You'll just accept it as one of its minor rough edges.

  12. Yeah that's what I thought. Was wondering why people were talking about hearing the 'crack' before the discharge huh.gif

Maybe there are some challenges make it hard to create this effect.

BIS oughta send their montage video to gametrailers.com. Their US forces trailer generated a bit of interest there.

  13. Yes i have always wanted a game sound like that, just listen to this "Battlefield 2 Supersonic bullet crack sound mod", im not a BF2 fan but i like this soundmod.. I also want that "echo" sound from all firing weapons.. sounds very good in my ears http://video.google.com/videopl....c+crack

BF2 mod thing sounds bit overdone compared to the real thing.. Here's the real thing - some guy just took camera out to range and shot at it smile_o.gif

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8309992055555328231

Check some other videos. Dyslecxi posted some that caught the loud "crack" very well. They were recorded by soldiers that were under fire and the sound is much more pronounced than in the video you posted; there's no mistaking it. So the Battlefield sound mod did a pretty good job. In reality, the "crack" could be much louder than heard in the mod.

    edit:

I think this is the one he posted.

  14. yes but if they dont what happens? wink_o.gif

nothing. We'll just leave them alone. You have to remember that if the worlds only superpower offers help to a nation that is needing help... I'm sure they will not say no. In retrospect, its their loss if they do.

    Some people would say otherwise.

How does the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (formerly the School of the Americas) fit in there?

One of the things that the US seems to have trouble doing is leaving people alone.

  15. The video has some very nice sounds, however it also demonstrates some other things -

Infantry are easily mobile on a 45 degree slope ....

When standing and leaning, there is no weapon sway which is highly unrealistic.

When firing from a standing and leaning position, recoil seems to do nothing, which is also highly unrealistic.

AI seem to react to enemy fire as effectively as a roast potato would.

Yes, there is weapon sway and recoil when firing while leaning. You could argue that it should be increased, but it's there in the Cynamite video. Look again guys.

The soldiers on the hill aren't that mobile either. The soldiers heading uphill were crawling and the one that was standing was walking downhill.

Sounds, while not perfect, do show significant improvement from OFP and Elite. And really, that's all we should have expected from Armed Assault.

  16. No, i'm talking about religion - which I pointed out. Anyway, what Denoir said really made me think. I didn't realise the American people to be that far behind Europeans (if they are even following EU?). Perhaps the US people are getting more and more religious?

Who knows - it sure is a whole different topic. It is just pretty weird that religion (Christianity) is so hard boiled into the leader of the states when looking from over here in Denmark, where oppinions, values and leadership isnt considered a religious thing but - well, a matter of oppinions and the person himself.

The US just seems so middleaged in it culture, while the technology is certainly up-to-date. A nation leading it's people by fear - that's a dangerous mix.

American's aren't really becoming more religious. The people that are religious have just begun to make more noise. With all of the scandals that have racked the Catholic Church and other religious leaders, people have become so cynical that it makes it hard to believe that religion is growing over here.

And I wouldn't say that we're being led by fear. But there is a lot of misinformation flying around.

Quote[/b] ]Fear? I know not one person who resides in the US that lives in fear.

I dunno man. Credit card debt is pretty scary.

  17. Good riddance, sorry you stayed in power this long asshole..

Meanwhile Democrats gain control of House and are on the brink of taking control of the Senate.

Change at last?Call me an optimist but I think americans are finally starting to catch up.

The sad thing is that it took 3,000 US soldiers back in body bags for them to realise. If the US casualties were as low as in Afghanistan and Iraqi resistance wasn`t as fierce I imagina everything would be fine and dandy for republicans today.

Rumsfeld didn't have to step down because of the three thousand casualties. He had to do it because it was costing the Republicans votes because American voters are upset by how poorly the war was planned and how the situation is deteriorating now.

The number of troop casualties alone was not grounds for removing Rumsfeld; it's expected during wartime. But since voters thought that casualties (among both Americans and Iraqis) could have been much lower had the war been planned better, Rumsfeld was forced to resign. It costed the Republicans many seats in Congress.

Anyway, that's my opinion. It's too soon to celebrate though. Let's hope that Robert Gates is up to task.

  18. Wouldn't the gold status be noted thru Idea Games?

    its should i suppose..

but the site is "dead/asleep" since 26.10.2006.

    Hahahaha!

BIS has no time! They're already hard at work getting Game2 ready! No breaks for them. We've already begun to criticize WIP Game2 screenshots and demand that soldier's fingernails grow at a realistic speed.

Everybody, over to the "NEXT GENERATION PC GAME" forum!

Ugh. Ok, ok. Disregard everything above that I've said.

  19. well if none of this is necessary lets all keep and stay with OFP. I play it every night..

lets say NO to evolution and improvment then.. ( ?! ) smile_o.gif

i understand what you guys are trying to say, but small details give away the best of a game.

Theres no doubt about it that ARMA will be the best game ever for me. The game is better and better in every new video.

    like i said:

Do not underestimate BIS and the Power of the Engine! wink_o.gif

(be ambitious, like Maruk once said)

edit: ARMA optimization seem and look to have the green light in every new video

I think at some point your suggestions have to belong in the "What do you HOPE will be in Armed Assault" thread or in the Game2 forums. They really do belong in the Game2 side because if they're not in ArmA now it's too late already. Unfortunately, most of us don't really visit the Game 2 side so nobody wants to post there. I know I don't want to because no one will see it.

What I'm trying to say is, don't expect to see those features you mentioned in ArmA if they aren't in yet. Those suggestions are for Game2 now.

And "Be Ambitious" only makes sense from the developer's view. From the customer's side it's more like "demand a lot of crap".
