Iirc it's caused by the way the rotor head compensates the dropping of the retreating blade (with the UH-1 at least). I believe they switched for lighter/more flexible blades much later that made the characteristical "thump" much weaker. I think it means small arms fire.

I haven't played DayZ a single minute. So far for going crazy about it. I'm far away from a decent computer for still a week :/ Of course it doesn't warrant a standalone game in its current state. But BI wouldn't be able to use third party content to sell a DLC or game, so they would have to create their own content. Then they can spent some time tinkering with the engine (netcode, animations, crowd AI). Also BI's strategy concerning DLCs and standalone games has been more than fair. So I trust them to sell a good game.

DayZ Zombie RPG (Unofficial Mod) Alpha
Serclaes replied to rocket's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
That's an interesting point. From this situation in real life I'd expect everybody to just try and survive this day, the next and the next. I think grouping is just the means to this. With multiple persons you can have somebody standing watch and have complementing skills (good hunter => gets more out of prey, good scavenger => finds more/hidden stuff, good cook => cooks better meals for more power, good builder => builds with less waste). Somewhat like skills in MMORPG like tank/dd/heal and professions. This would be enough for me to play this mod, but that would also make it very complex. About the payment system: Funny because I read an article from a survival expert today who wrote to pack a 1000$ in an emergency bag and thought "I know americans like their dollars, but I doubt it would be stable through an apocalypse." I think bartering would be the way to go. The problem is: If you're hungry and have no food any food can have a high "price", if you have plenty of food, it can be pretty cheap. The game would be really interesting though if any ressource would be scarce the whole time. Like you could barely make it to eat every day and getting weaker and weaker the longer you're without food/water. :P -
Given a good quality and some engine/netcode improvements (mmo!) I'd pay. I'm gonna buy Iron Front too, so why not a DayZ DLC/Standalone game?

I can't watch the video because of that shitty internet connection here. But I've seen many videos from Mr. Farage. The problem is with him that he is a british "nationalist". And of course he is against everything that threatens british sovereignity and he draws a very grim picture, so he's right like a broken clock is right twice a day. Now don't get me wrong though. I dislike the EU as an instution because I just think that how they are doing it is wrong. But I'm not opposed to the idea of peace in europe, which was the initial goal of the ECSC (which is coincidentally what Mr. Farage wants).

Well it's bad because load can not be as easily spread as you might think. Another core is not a magical 100% boost. I guess the one core with 90% load is the one doing the wayfinding map for the ai. The rest probably one reading from hard drive, one for physics and another for the rest/general game. This ai thing for example. Assuming it's something like a Dijkstra (probably not but that illustrates well) It just builds a lot of nodes and determines the "cost" to travel these nodes. Ohne node should cover something like 0.5m². You could process 100mx100m patches by different cores but sewing these patches together would be a real nightmare. The hard drive managing core can't probably go any faster except if you have some SSD or RAID0.

Anyone else think BIS gave up on Chenerus too soon?
Serclaes replied to bonchie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Chernarus was and is awesome. I was sick and tired of those desert/unspecifiedistan games. If it had enterable buildings, Chernarus would be king. So yeah, I think they gave up too early on Chernarus. What I like so much about it is the size. The map size of course but also the villages aren't too big nor too small. They are placed believably into good positions and mostly have bigger clearings around them (for agriculture). It's no wonder since it's based on real locations, just smaller. But then it has flat lands, hills and big forests. And it's still colorful. Tho I wouldn't mind a map with summer or winter setting. I also think Jakerod does a wonderful job at imagining the rest of the green sea. Can't mention that enough. I hope you'll do some more and possibly bigger maps! -
Argh you beat me to it. Yup compiled here too, good job. :)

Hmm compiling it with mikero's tools worked after one adjustment: The import of class DefaultClutter in the Takistan class. This might be a hint. Going to check further asap.

Oooh Mechwarrior, those were times... Laugh at me but: Oi2jE_UYiZA :D My favorite is still OFP. Seventh ftw! Also the Halo Combat Evolved stuff was pretty good (never played any other halo). There were some other i guess, just can't remember them. -
Umm you mean for a general animation cycle? Because in gestures the fingers could move :) I'm a little worried about this "careless"/"safe" walking animation. The earlier ones were compact enough so this "cloning" effect could hardly be noticed, except for the legs of course. But this lazy left arm looks strange. I hope there are going to be some different cycles for reduced cloning. :)

Flight dynamics (important issues)
Serclaes replied to nightsta1ker's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Umm guys, have you checked your torque while doing this? Afaik VNE/max speed is for retreating blade stall, but it might not even be reachable if you are too heavy. Please verify that the torque is not yellow/red while in flight :) -
Is ArmA better than Minecraft?
Serclaes replied to daman3's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
[smartass mode] Since he provides a download link to his lego bricks, I'd say he challenges you to do the stuff in ArmA that you'd do in minecraft :) -
A thing that bothers me a lot is the hypersensitivity on the shifting axis. The rotational axis are cool. It's just irritating to turn from left to right and have the head shifting from right to left.

Where do you think I got that from? ;)

Iron Front - Liberation 1944, new WW2 game on A2:OA engine
Serclaes replied to Choki's topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - GENERAL
Funny because they get to the right conclusions. While I laughed a lot at their cluelessness about military stuff ("panzerkopfwagen", "That Marder thing isn't really a tank right?", "oh pak stands for Panzerabwerkanone?", "i bet a tank can just run through a thick tree at full speed"), they hit the nail on the head in their conclusion: you need tactics and time to win. Also, it seems they took some hints very well. So maybe you might want to head over there and give them some clues. -
Jedra's Weapon Indicator
Serclaes replied to jedra's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
My gripe is with the littlebird for example. You can't tell which firing mode (2000/4000rpm) is selected and if it wasn't for the dot "crosshair" I couldn't even tell if I'll be firing guns or rockets. I doubt the real littlebird has an ammo gauge tho, but I guess the hind has one. Also, IRL you could say "engage with guns". In ArmA you'd have to change weapons to get a feedback and if you haven't memorized the sequence, it could become very frantic to get to the right weapon system in combat :) -
Guys, what did you expect for 12 (that is twelve!) bucks? Eagle dynamics sold the A10 as a full price game. The update to bring Black Shark up to the same engine level as A10 20 bucks. The upgrade FC2 (which is ridiculous) also for almost full price. If you're expecting a fully clickable cockpit for the hind, then you're in for disappointment. I'm very satisfied with the 12 bucks I spent. I got a new helicopter which has a dedicated combat role and a new flight model with it.

Nerfing the Flight model
Serclaes replied to -EVO-Crash's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - SUGGESTIONS
I concur. While I haven't played DCS for months I still can remember how to start it and I guess I could figure out most of the other steps as well but it isn't about flying. I like ToH because it's about flying the helicopter, not turning it on. You know, just how I'd like my gf to be :D The flying is what is fun to me, so it can't be realistic/hard enough because it's about the way to mastery! -

To much torque induced yaw
Serclaes replied to Scorlhov's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - SUGGESTIONS
Keep in mind that the Hind is a beast. It's heavily armed and armored. I think I even remember that the Hind does not even have flat pitch. If I remember correctly the least possible pitch is 1°. So it is completely normal to have a lot of torque to counter. Also this flight model has been tested by real hind pilots who were astonished at how well the flight model was reproduced ingame. I think this includes the torque...
