My point was do we really know that this is what ArmA is going to look like or are these simply staged screenshots that have been touched up for release? Pre-release screenshots are rarely in-game shots and usually look quite different than the finished product. BIS could've done the same with these ArmA screenshots as we do in the OFP photo thread. I could take the same shot in OFP with Sig's T72s, WGL textures, and FlashFX and make it look the same or better than this shot. Even if these shots are really what it will look like, what are we getting? Forgive me for not guzzling the kool-aid but these shots show me nothing other than BIS has a marginally better ground/sky texture, better skins, and slightly better looking buildings (whether or not all are enterable as someone else stated is completely speculation). The destroyed vehicle looks the same as does the smoke and pretty much everything else. Look at the comparison shot of OFP and ArmA and tell me what I'm waiting for except for a better looking tank. Grass?? A new damage model? DX10 light sourcing? Destructable buildings? And those are just the features that I could see in a screenshot. I simply wonder why worry about putting out an moderately upgraded eye candy version of OFP (so far that's all it's shown me) vs. putting all efforts into finishing up the true sequel which so far looks and sounds amazing. We are coming up on 5 years and I don't want OFP2 turning into Duke Nukem Forever just so we can have a better skin on a T72. I love OFP and BIS. I've played OFP just about every day with my clan since 2001 and like I said, we're buying it anyways and appreciate the work, but I simply how much longer OFP2 will be delayed due to the work on ArmA and whether ArmA is worth delaying the true next-gen version of our favorite game. We still know next to nothing about it's true intent. Is it a stand alone? Is it to tide us over for another 3 years of OFP2 dev? I hope I'm wrong, but after seeing years put into the port of OFPE for a fairly marginal product outside of the hardcore base, I wonder.

I'd like to see an untouched in-game shot before I go bananas over the improvements. Don't get me wrong, I'm buying it no matter what, but really, the screenies look no better than 80% of the shots our guys have put up in the OFP photo thread. Heck, Parvus has a photo on the 2nd to last page that looks EXACTLY like these shots, only better. It simply looks pretty much the same as OFP right now as far as edited 'posed' screenshots go. I'm wondering what the big selling point is going to be for the hardcore OFP community and really why this is getting priority over game 2. Is ArmA basically a 5 year old engine with a few graphics improvements and units? If so, why not just concentrate on OFP2 as I can get that with current addons and features. I want to see a screenshot that demonstrates something new, whether it's features or vehicles, not a blackhawk hovering over a pseudo-Tonal island. I'm REALLY impressed with what I've seen with game 2. ArmA. . .not so much.

Nice airshow vid. Is that smoke effect going to be released?

I lived in Biloxi and NO for many years and it's simply amazing to see everything that I saw everyday simply vanish in the span of 48 hours. I saw the slab of my house on CNN a few hours back. It's just really surreal and tragic. FEMA has ordered 100,000 body backs with a realistic chance that tens of thousands could be lost. Living on the coast, we always dreaded this scenario and unfortunately, the reality of the situation outstripped the planning for such. It's just one of those things that you have to put aside and move forward getting back on level footing. Keep the area in your thoughts wherever you live and know that the people down there have been knocked on their ass but will bounce back in time. They always do.

man, look at the shadows on those helos and the sun glare off of the window of the Osprey. Good times.

so by way they're talking about the game having a dynamic campaign with the AI vs. AI, am I to gather that I could conceivably start at a calm staging area and then while driving/flying to the obj, witness random firefights that are completely removed from my objective around the island? That would be very cool, especially the ambient noise of battle from far away that isn't just a sound file.

OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?
ShadowVS replied to Cpt. FrostBite's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Cracks is more likely i don't know, they look like bullet groupings. There are various black points instead of continuous lines. Who knows, but it's nice to dream. -

Are those bullet holes on the mosque??? Maybe we will get dynamic building destruction. I'm also hoping that that wheel rolling by spells the end of the crumpled paper vehicle destruction model. The one thing that I noticed that kinda bugged me was that the aiming icon seems a bit too large. I don't use it anymore, but I don't remember it being that unsightly. mosque battle -
If OFP didn't have the coop mode, I would've quit playing a LONG time ago. CTI is great, but coop mode and the flexibility of the mission editor keeps the game fresh. To me, BF and Joint Ops were cool for about 2 weeks before extreme boredom kicked in. If that's your thing, cool. But it seems that the OFP mp player is a bit more mature and in control. I'm sure that the arcade-esque BF player finds OFP a pain as they can't bunny hop their way out of the line of fire

My God!! 27%?!?!? That's almost a freakin' majority!!! Apparently, we currently have Dr. Strangelove in a cavern in West Virginia and his trigger finger is getting a mite itchy it seems. Perspective...it's what's for dinner. I'm sure one in four American's believe that there is nothing wrong whatsoever with tossing terrorists into a volcano, but I don't think that will happen unless we anger Pele further.

Any help would be appreciated. I recently reinstalled OFP and out of nowhere I'm now getting the following errors upon starting any map (single player & MP): error loading data3d\uralt.p3d (magic) & error loading data3d\(insert here).p3d (magic) I'm able to play but am unable to see any trucks. I tried copying another fresh p3d ural file in config but no dice.

yeah Shash, my bad, it was Hudson and Pennywise's F-18. Â I just tried Footmunch's F16 beta and liked it a lot. Â It's more stable than the prior one I used and looks worlds better. Â I'm going to try and use this as my first reskin and forray into scripts. Â Hopefully, someone will think this idea idea is cool enough and do it right. Â I'm sure the first examples of mine will not be pretty and will be unreleaseable in any case so I don't think anyone whose model I reskin will have to worry too much about credit acknowledgements anytime soon. The wings will probably fall off when I attempt to engage the smoke script or something. Â Â

nah, stock BIS tanks. It doesn't happen so much in the campaign game, but in MP Coop the AI tanks do this all the time addons or no addons.
