  1. Thanks again Telejunky. The motherboard I have (Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe) was an AM2 board but it will take AM2+ as well. I don't think it will take AM3 though. The Phenom II 945 does seem better but is ~AU$130 more than the Phenom 9650. Sadly that is way more than what I wanted to spend. :( For now I think I will just go ahead with the video card upgrade. I'll keep an eye on CPU prices, but I'm not likely to upgrade the rest for another 12 months or so. I really need to save as much money as I can for my new motorbike! :) Thanks again for everyone's help.
  2. @Maddmatt & Telejunky, thanks for your advise on video cards. I've scrapped the idea of the 9800gt now and am considering either the HD4850 or the 250GTS. Both are not much more in price than the 9800GT I was looking at, but appear considerably better in performance. Another question to the group, If I was to upgrade my CPU: I currently have an Athlon X2 3000MHz (6000+) AM2. I can upgrade to a Phenom X4 9650 2300MHz AM2+ without needing to change my motherboard, RAM, etc. And the Phenom X4 9650 is the right price. Will there be enough performance improvement in ArmA2 and other games from the X2 to the X4 to justify the cpu upgrade? Or are they roughly even in terms of gaming, as such not worth spending the money?

    I have exactly the same problem as James22 here. I bought the AU version just yesterday. Installed and ran fine at default (v1.01 I think). A soon as I install v1.03 update the game won't start at all. I updated to v1.03 using the torrent download from GameUpdates.org I have found that after installing the beta update (build 59025) the game DOES start using the created shortcut (using -mod=beta). But if I try and use the original exe (v1.03) it still won't start. If I get a chance I will try reinstalling the game and using the v1.03 update downloaded from ArmedAssault.info. EDIT: Just found out it does start when just using v1.03, but it takes ~34 minutes from double clicking shortcut to get to the first splash screen.
  5. I only just bought the game yesterday so haven't had a really good run around or checked FPS. But most video options are currently in medium to low and it's still not that great. And my system is very similar to Anessen's so I'd be interested in what people reckon would be the best bit to upgrade: AMD Athlon 64 6000+ X2 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400 DDR2 Leadtek 8600GTS Extreme 256MB GDDR3 Windows XP SP3 I'm guessing the answers will be video card or everything. There is no chance in hell that I'll be upgrading everything. I'm saving for a new motorbike and it has priority. If I get a new video card it will be something relatively cheap like a Nvidia 9800GT 1GB GDDR3. What do people think?

  7. I've been studying hard for final exams... really I have!! This is a model that I started back before the F-111 as a way to get the hang of O2. I figured I'd continue with it to see how it ends up. I hope to make a camo version at some stage too. It's got all the usual stuff, custom gear animations, afterburner, etc. I put in a script so that Footmunch's roundels should work with it as well, (see the readme for how it works). It also has working napalm and cluster bombs, (see the readme for an important note with the napalm). You will need the pilot I made as well, Its just the BIS pilot but without the flag on the shoulder, (pretty much identical to the one that is in with the F-111). I figure most of the planes I make will be multi-national so I put the pilot as a separate file. This way if you have my F-111, F-5 and whatever else I make in your addons dir, you won't end up with multiple of the same pilot of the same name in the mission editor. Enjoy, let me know what you think, or if you're have problems with it. Plane: Plane Pilot: Pilot EDIT: Forgot to mention, don't expect too much from the cockpit graphics again! ,and the plane textures are a bit ordinary too. What can I say, I dont like texturing!

  9. I know multiple animations for a part of a model can't be done, but how do they make multiple angles for a particular part, like the flaps on the plane. Flaps Up/ Flaps Half Down/ Flaps Full Down I have tried adding an extra angle value like so, angle0=0; angle1=-0.50; angle2=-0.90; but this doesnt work. Or is this one of the things that needs specific naming to work properly, in this case only items named klapka? Any suggestions?
  10. This is just something I recently bunged together for a bit of fun, and to see some of my weapons on the A-10. I figured I'd release it incase anyone else wants to play around with it. Full credit to InQUisiToR for the grey textures. It doesnt have any fancy stuff but if people are interested I could put in the scripts for flares and auto-eject, and I could also add other weapon setups, such as gbu10's and cluster bombs. The config for the A-10s is same as standard BIS A-10, but the weapons are configured the same as with my other planes. Download here: skc_a10_v1.rar

    I need to clarify a couple of things: I can't add combination weapon loadouts, HUD, or anything else that would require modifying the model itself since it uses the standard BIS model which is binarized. I will however: change the cannon sound, 'tweak' the plane and cannon config a bit, and add in some scripts. I'm looking into what Chriz said, that the textures are by Giaky (not that I don't believe you Chriz, I just want to be sure.....which is what I should have done in the first place). I know InQUisiToR said special thanks to Giaky in his A-10 Bomber readme, but I figured that it was just for random help. As for my other planes, I am still working on them as well as another plane I've been making. I like to have a few different 'projects' to switch between so it doesnt get boring. Thanks to everyone for feedback and info.

    Dkm addon released

    Just curious... is it possible to configure this to work in a similar way to flags on flag poles, so that the top can rotate and face the direction the wind is coming from? Or will the 'multiple animation' problem exist with the animation of the blades (ie, you can't have the top rotate AND the blades spinning)?

    Lee_H._Oswald - I tried your config changes and I think it is way too sluggish on mouse. I'll do a bit of experimenting. Footmunch - Let the competition begin..... but seriously, I think the masses would have my head if I took you away from your work with the F-4 Phantom!! Â Â Nexus6 - the best thing you could do for cutscenes is to use the camcreate command and setvelocity command to make it look like the bombs were dropped. The AI isn't very effective when using these bombs. They only drop one at a time, it is rarely on target, and I dont know how to specify to the AI to use them in retarded mode. I forgot to include a list of ammo/weapon class names etc in the rar so I'll bung up a quick list. Available below. F-5 class names and stuff Ok everyone this is what I'm thinking, I'll try some changes to make it a bit more stable but still maneuverable and next version I'll make two separate addons, one configured for mouse and one for joystick, that way you can just download the one you would prefer. I've only got a very old and shitty MS joystick at my disposal so before I release it I will take Footmunch's suggestion and get some joystick users to give it a pre-test. I don't know when this new version will be available because I'm making a small prop driven plane as well at the moment and would like to get a beta out for it asap.

    Just for the record, I dont have any plans to make aggressor textures, I'd rather make textures that represent combat aircraft, not training aircraft. I'll have to check out a few more pics before I decide what exactly I'll use. coporal_punishment - That book sounds pretty good, if you are able to scan in a few of the more common paint schemes (not aggressor ones) that would be great. Or just describe them to me and I'll see how I go. Consigliere - I'm not much of a true flight sim player. I fly 3rd person cause I love to look at the planes! Whats the point in flying all these cool looking aircraft if all you get to see is a small portion from the inside!! Lee_H._Oswald - Man thats a nice pic! I havent tried your config suggestion yet, will give it a go tomorrow. ozanzac - I think I'm one of those pansies, after all, I fly 3rd person......and use mouse instead of joystick!! BTW, I'm already at uni, and I've already done TAFE. My education has finished, started, finished, and started again! Just completed first year Uni, and I'm doing better than I thought I'd do. I guess I'm a sucker for educational torture! Now a question to everyone. There has been alot of people comment that it is too sensitive left/right movement. Do all these people use joystick or are there mouse users out there that think it is too sensitive too? I personally thought it was slightly too sensitive but didn't think much of it, after all, as people have said it is supposed to be a highly manuverable plane. Any mouse users out there that think it is too sensitive then please let me know. I just need to clarify if it is a joystick only problem, or if mouse users think it is too harsh as well. Thanks all!

    Thats what I thought, but is it supposed to look like the blue/grey camo (the middle one below) or is it some other type? The only agressor pics I've seen are the blue/grey camo, the desert camo, and the full grey. The other pic looks more green/grey, but it could be the pic??

    Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Lee_H._Oswald - I'll try your config changes and see how they go. I play with mouse instead of joystick, and I did want it to be a bit sensitive to movement but alot of people say it is too much so I'll what I can do. One - I wasnt going to worry about a desert camo one, I'm thinking either SEA (Vietnam) camo (like my F-111) or the camo like in the pic below. Dont know what type of camo this is,..Euro maybe... anyone help me here?? Acidcrash - It's only Beta 1 at this stage, so there is only one resolution LOD, no solid geometry LOD, and a basic Fire geometry LOD. Dont worry, I do know about that. It's also missing a shadow. Ozanzac - With the complaints about handling I'll have to try changing it, I'll see how it goes, might have to settle for a compromise. Although I do love what Footmunch has done with his multiple weapons and hidden selections, I'm going to stick with the proxies for now. I seriously hope OFP2 supports multi proxies for aircraft! Good luck with your exams, I have one more to go and its tomorrow arvo, nice easy one! Wonder - Sorry about the cockpit again, but I always fly 3rd person, so cockpits are never a priority (and cockpits are more about texturing than modeling.... evil texturing). What do you mean about the high stall speed? RavenDK - Sorry, no plans at this stage to make the top gun one. I Might do it at a later stage. Thanks again to everyone, glad you like it!

    Textures blurred ingame

    What are the resolution LOD's of the model set at? If they are quite close numbers you will be seeing the least detailed of the LOD's even though you might be quite close, which is why you see the detailed LOD through binoculars,.. if you know what I mean.

    Plane? From what I've seen, you cannot grab the MAG58 if you are already equipped with a rifle. If you do the MAG58 just vanishes. If you do have a rifle, drop it first, then grab the MAG58. Dont forget to grab some ammo too. Nice work guys, those camo colours look perfect!
  21. I'm actually trying to edit a smoke/flare addon that uses the simulation fire for the light and smoke effects. Problem is, when you walk up to it in game you get the option of 'Put Out Fire', and that is bad! Does anyone know if there is a way to use removeaction for this, or will I have to try something else? I can't use inflame command because the smoke/flare addon is not a editor object, it's a type of ammo.

    F-111 beta 2 is ready to go!

    Thanks for the feedback ozanzac. Hopefully, next time I get a chance I'll concentrate on finishing the cockpit. If the beta 2 release had a real cockpit and a few other things I would have been happy enough to call it a final. So its basically just a few cosmetic things now, I'm pretty happy with the model as is now, so I shouldn't need to worry about that anymore. I'll probably be doing a bit on a few other models as well, just for a bit of something different. (I think I started the F-111 back in September or October 2002!! )
