Wow, what a similar theory. Hmmm. I possibly could have been implying that.

I bet Safedisc purposely added a routine to corrupt the tmp files on a certain date, forcing their customers to renew their license agreements. Â Its funny, from reading the post its seems more like Safedisc has turned into a Trojan.

I am aware of the via bug in the controller too. However, my board (KG7A-RAID) has the new north and south bridge controllers, which should have resolved the situation with the sound blaster and copying files. I have a SBLive platnium and have never encountered either prob.

I have an HP 9100 series, which I did test. But I have been using a new Toshiba 16x DVD via master on the secondary controller. Both are capable of reading subchannel data.

    Illegal operation on startup

I own a copy of OPF and I have the same problem trying to run OPF on my win2000 machine. I get the same damn error everybody else gets; that being the tmp file that safedisc creates and cannot read. I have tried all the FAQ from the Avon site and Codemasters site. None of it worked. Service patches, DMA settings, VIA chip updates, removal of Daemon tools, ASPICHCKs(passes fine), Firmware updates, Video card updates, etc... NOne of it works. You could try the patches, but guess what? The patches use Safedisc too. Safedisc really screwed this product up. Safedisc is such a bunch of crap too. I dont see how that could get past anybodys QA lab. However it managed. I am still stuck with a losey codemaster coaster for $40 as well as many others. The only way you can get the game to play is to "unsafedisc" the executable. Then theres the catch 22. It's Illegal, you don't get updates, and Fade comes into effect. Your screwed both ways. Despite the safedisc issues, OPF is one of the best war simulations out on the market. Its a damn shame many user wont be able to see that. Oh well, hopefully something eventually come through. Rumor has it that Codemaster has been trying to contact Bohemia Interactive and resolve the situation. It would be wise for them to drop Safedisc all together.
