Tom Clancy movies on the horizon

I agree that RSR - if made into a miniseries with the same quality as BoB - would be incredible. I can't see them stuffing RSR into a movie, there's just too much going on. I just worry that the constant jumping from one character to an entirely different one would be tough to get immersed in in any medium but print.

    wip_45

Could you maybe change the hand and sleeve textures to black shilouettes, or something more generic? It would look pretty strange to have, say, a BIS soldier wielding a .45 with MARPAT textures on his arm. I liked the first version, so I bet this one will be better

    Stamina script

Hi all, I posted this at OFPEC verbatim but I figured it's worth putting up here too... Would it be possible to make a stamina script for your squad? Each man is assigned a variable at the beginning of the mission - this is his "toughness" rating. It should range from 30 min to 60 min. When the mission starts, start a timer. When each man hits his variable limit, another script is called - this one reduces his skill dramatically and makes him whine at you over the radio that he's tired and his feet hurt. He'll still be part of the squad and can still fight, but he'll be annoying and less effective. To remedy this, you need to choose "rest" from your action menu - everyone is set to "safe" mode and sits down for a few minutes. At the end of this short time, the timer is reset to zero for all of them and begins to count up again. They regain their default skill rating. Of course, you should be able to cancel the rest period with an action if you need to move, but they remain tired. Is this possible with eight or so men? If it is, I have a very clever use for it

Hehehe cool....checking out Norfolk, Virginia, and there are two flattops and two amphibious assault ships docked...some frigates and DD's too. Sure enough there are some Tomcats and Hornets at Oceana

    OFP on a Mac?

Is there a way to get OFP working on a Mac? I have a couple of friends who want to play but have Macs, so they're kind of screwed, I guess. I asked a couple of people about emulators or something, but they said it would probably run like crap under that kind of setup. Any ideas, or are they SOL?

    OFP on a Mac?

Well, we tried the Virtual PC route, but it says right on the box that it doesn't support directX graphics...any ideas other than the last one about fedore core and wineX? If possible I'd like to hear from somebody who has definitely done it, and how they did it.

Ditto all bugs reported above, but still great fun

    New mission: "Tyrone must fall"

Well, the intro looked good - my only points are to add some music and pick a Russian voice rather than the english "go go go!" Breifing is solidly done, but I checked the gear tab and to my surprise I'm a lone soldier armed with an M16... Sure enough, the mission starts and I'm an American soldier standing in Tyrone I'll de-pbo it and play it later tonight.

    Ofp moments in gameplay

Chopper fun... So I was playing some coop crCTI the other day with a friend of mine, and I was killed out in the field and respawned at our base. Having been killed while locating the enemy base, I buy a few blackops and am pondering how I want to use my friend and his squad as cannon fodder while I sneak into the base and blow it up. My thoughts are interrupted as he returns with the remnants of his squad in a Black Hawk - an AI is flying him around. I figure what the hell, I'll have him give me a lift to the base and he can attack like a madman while I do the real work. Me and my commandos jump in. I sidechat him that we're ready to go, since the AI pilot is dutifuly hovering there, waiting for orders. My friend gives the pilot a waypoint and it looks like we're ready to roll, and the Black Hawk scoots forward a few feet without gaining altitude, stops, and then flies BACKWARDS at full speed into a forest, dragging its nose along the ground and then getitng stuck in among the trees. I know from experience that no good can come of this, so I quickly eject myself and my commandos and run like hell to get clear of the impending explosion - my friend is still sitting in the back typing "WTF?!??!!!??!?" over and over again. I stop and turn around and watch the chopper throw itself around inside the forest for a good thirty seconds, then finally it explodes. Needless to say we humans did the driving for the rest of the round. However, it didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped...we tried this again but loaded up with regular troops to go retake Montingac, which was a more pressing need at the time. My friend thinks he's a badass and gets six jeeps with machineguns and forms a big convoy. I go airmobile and load some heavy infantry into another Black Hawk. I get to Montingac long before he does, retake it, and then leave my men on the ground and scout around in the air a bit. A crapload of Russians are coming. I order my men to pull back to a clear spot near the town so I can extract them, as we have no friendlies in the area, and I try to warn off my friend and his jeeps, but he rolls in and within about thirty seconds all his jeeps are wrecks. I pull my men out and limp back to base in my badly shot-up Black Hawk. He respawns as I reach our base and I flare to a hover over a repair truck. I start repairing, but apparantly I clip the truck with the landing gear and the chopper starts bucking wildly...it lurches sideways into a stand of trees before I can regain control and explodes, killing the truck, my squad, and a whole shitload of friendlies who were in our base. We decided to keep it on the ground from that point forward.

    Multi Career Campaign

I think that this is one of the best ideas I've heard in a while, although it's going to be an absolute monster to create properly. If you need any help with the story side of things, I'd be happy to assist...i.e. backstory, overall plot, or even mission ideas within it. What can I say, I like the storytelling aspect of OFP almost as much as I like playing it.

    SPECNAZ

I think the most striking similarity between this game and OFP is the VSS in this screenie: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/affpic.htm?images/pc/s/z/szpwpc022.jpg The one it the VITAPC pack looks exactly like that, or vice versa...though it's probably a CS import to begin with And BTW Jakerod, that's DF1....I remember it well...

    Combat! discussion thread

Okay, let me narrow the question a bit: I want to shut the smoke from the weapons off. "CBT_NoScripts = true" shuts off the secondary explosions and fire, but not the weapons smoke, and it there's still a rediculous amount of smoke from the destroyed vehicle. "CBT_NoSmoke = true" shuts off the secondary explosions and fire as well. Both of these commands in the init field (one at a time, of course) will also make the driver turn out and stay turned out until I set his combat mode to "combat." So is there a way to shut the smoke from the weapons fire off?

    Nope, none of them.

    Combat! discussion thread

Got a question about the Combat scripts... <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">1) Main scripts disablement: If you want to use all COMBAT! addons without scripts, write in a global place: - "CBT_NoScripts = true" If you want to use M113's without scripts, write on a global place: - "CBT_M113a_NoScripts = true" If you want to use APCs with Raedor's Cargo scripts, write in a global place: - "CBT_NoCargo = false" To play the APCs without smoke and light effects, write in a global place: - "CBT_NoSmoke = true" To reduce smoke effects in all CBT addons, write this line in global place: - "CBT_LowSmoke = true" Where's the proper place to put these? I tried the init field, I tried the init.sqs......I want to shut off the smoke, but there's no effect when following those instructions. What gives

    Bouncing an idea around

Sounds like a cool idea, but I think it's kind of unlikely you'd be able to climb onto a modern MBT to even attempt it though. I've read that on at least one occasion Iraqi insurgents tried it, but the hatches were indeed unopenable from the outside and other tanks just hosed the turret down with machinegun fire.

    ZEUS CTI v1.2 released

Hey again...I played a bit of PvP Zcti 1.2 today and noticed some more of that wierd "parking" behavior that Sanctuary and I reported some time ago. This time it was a half-dozen M113s and Vulcans in front of the light vehicle factory. AI commander on Everon, I was playing as Alpha team leader.

    OFP on a Mac?

Heh, if such a thing really exists, yeah... Anyway one of them is trying the Virtual PC route...we'll see how that goes.

    OFP on a Mac?

There are definitely programs which allow you to run Windows on a Mac, like Virtual PC, but the question is whether you could run a game this way...as I understand it, performance drops quite a bit when using an emulator.

2 Soundpacks for the new MAAM

C4P741N asked if the M4/M16 models can be replaced...your answer was basically to the effect of "no, that's not the point of MAAM." However, nearly every other weapon model has already been replaced with a high-quality addon...it seems to me that there's no reason why the M4 and M16s can't also be replaced as well.

2 Soundpacks for the new MAAM

The goal of MAAM is not different than it was for JAM: making ammo and magazine settings in OFP more realistic and coordinated. This is not a gun visual model addon mod. Then why replace 90% of the other weapon models?

NASA budget would kill Hubble(in future)

According to the Associated Press this morning, there was no money allotted in the proposed 2006 budget for Hubble. There had been plans for some upgrades, but apparantly they're just going to let it die. The story was on the news wires this morning, looking for it now. *EDIT* http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/08/politics/08nasa.html and http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=479078

Vote your favorite armored ofp vehicle

M113, because it's a workhorse that's gotten me through lots of missions - yeah its thinly armored, yeah it only has a fifty-cal on the roof, but it seats 8 comfortably and holds all the gear you'll need for an afternoon in the field. Sentimental value, I suppose. The BMP is definitely the vehicle I associate with OFP though...that horrendous squeaking of the tracks and that engine...sometimes after too much OFP I hear them in my sleep

    Mobile Flashpoint

I've been running OFP for about two years on my laptop...got it for my birthday and it was supposed to just be for college work Compaq Presario 2100 Athalon 1.5 ghz 512 RAM, 64 of which goes to graphics right off the top 40gb HD With terrain detail at very low and view distance around 1000, it plays without problems. I adjusted the view distance up to 1200, normal detail, and loaded up EECP, and it stuttered enough to make me go back to plain old OFP. I'm thinking of doubling my RAM, but I'm wavering on it since it's going to cost me like 200 bucks and I'm a little short on scratch...such is college life.
