Very interesting article from insider sources about the risks of the initial USA's battle plan for the invasion. a little quote: As the adage goes, armchair strategists talk forces while military professionals talk logistics. And the logistics of Iraqi Freedom break down to a set of daunting statistics. An armored or air-mobile division on the move consumes roughly 550,000 gallons of fuel a day. COSCOM, just to supply V Corps's forward forces with the requisite 1 million gallons of fuel, must have 3 million gallons in its pipeline. Each of the tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers in the Iraqi theater, meanwhile, consumes at least a liter of water an hour. The harder those units and soldiers fight, the higher their ammunition, fuel, and water requirements climb. The longer the logistics pipeline stretches, the greater the strain on inadequate transportation equipment.

Thanks Balschoiw for the clarification. I'm sorry my request caused such a stir. Avon Lady, now I understand why you are playing less OPF these days! Â I would like to say that posting so many times a day it's very easy to get caught in the disinformation storm that is embracing old and new media, east and west, north and south. I know it's difficult to avoid it, as those events are of outmost importance for all of us (and for some more than others, Lady, I know). I just want to warn you against the effect of the so called facts that maybe in the future we'll learn they weren't so. Maybe we'll have to be more careful in our discussion. For instance, the uprisings in Basra doesn't seem to be 100% accurate. Spanish journalist in Kuwait can't confirm that indeed there is any uprising. But, hey, those are just another source, so maybe we'll have to take into account how Bush Sr abandoned them in the last Gulf War. Arabs have a say: if you deceive me once, shame on you, if you deceive me twice, shame on me (more or less) Anyway, let's keep the discussion civilized!

Balschoiw, excuse me but I am not very familiar with this thread, what are your sources?

If somebody were to produce a good 'Iraqi' campaign I'd probably play it unless it contained jingoistic or racist propaganda. <span id='postcolor'> I agree, but with OPF is very easy to set up almost every imaginable modern war situation (thanks to our relentless moding community) I don't produce quality missions with the editor, but I like to make very simple missions in which I love to play the underdog, and I have been tempted to build a mission in which I play a lonely iraki soldier against the mighty US army... Remember, this is just a game...??? BTW, one of the games that made me feel not uneasy but very scared was Medal of Honor, the Omaha Beach mission makes you feel insignificant amidst such an overwhelming enemy fire!

I consider myself a pacifist, in the sense that violence should be the last resort to solve conflicts between humans. At the same time, I wouldn’t mind using violence against anyone that would try to harm me, my family or friends but I don’t get into trouble and I haven’t been I a fight since I was in school. I suppose I am a pretty normal guy… As the rest of the forum’s members, I love playing war, starting when I was a child, making “guns†from pieces of wood, then plastic replicas, and then, when videogames entered my life, I became a lover of the amazing world of militaristic simulations. Although I disregard violence in real life, I have continued to play simulated war in my computer and other “violent games†(FPP, strategy, etc). I would like to ask you if you have ever felt even slightly uneasy about having as an entertainment an activity that costs thousand of lives every year. I am not looking for disputes between who is right or not in waging a war. I just want to know what do you feel about being raised in a world were play and war are sometimes so close. I have felt uneasy lately, but I also know that organised violence is a very human thing, and in the other hand, play is an activity that often serves as a “training†for what sooner or later you’ll face in your real live. What do you think?

My current obsession is to take pictures of planes turning  : A-10 turning C-130 turning too close to the ground

The only thing that I know is that I had no problems prior to upgrading to Resistance...

Hello all! I love to play superb games like OPF, and I enjoy also putting at practice my limited editing skills. To accomplish that, I have my own little brain and also the help of the community, in the form of tutorials, guides, FAQs, and of course the ever present forums here and in OPFEC. Last week I was having dinner with a friend, who has a start up that is trying to get into the business of “Network Knowledge Managementâ€. This is a very new and promising field, with many links to data mining, information mapping, etc. As I said, it is very experimental, and here in Spain it’s even harder. Well, they have a little tool called “enmedi@†(translates into something like “inmediaâ€, pretty easy to figure), that is a mix of discussion group and distributed list. What is new in there, is that there is a moderator in each of these “enmedi@â€. His work is to arrange and classify all the useful information that each “enmedi@†generates, using the online tools provided. In this way, there is always a structured archive of all the relevant information generated, bibliography, interviews, articles, etc As they are struggling right now to make themselves a place in the market, we were brainstorming ideas, and I told him that maybe they could design a new “enmedi@†specialised in game developing and community game editing. Perhaps it would be enough with an archivist that would take care of the editing forums, keeping the relevant information and cross linking it to a “tutorial database†or something. I’d like to know what tools a game editing community needs, and if this will improve the results we have with the current assets we have (fan websites, forums, official documentation). Of course some of you editing geniuses don’t need as much help as I need, but perhaps this reflection would help to bring new tools for a better information flow. What do you think?

Don forget Cazadores de Monte, probably the best and more frequently updated OPF site in Spanish: http://www.cazadoresdemonte.com.ar/

Hehehe, yes I know I could do it better (lower) with joystick and rudders, but I think that keyboard and mouse are very usable in this game, at least with choppers. I used a cheap Averkey to send the video signal to my DV camcorder and Windows Movie Maker to edit. If only OPF had a replay feature!... I suppose the best thing would be to set up a LAN party and have some player to act as a camera, this way we could record all kind of stunts, without the crappy AI...

Check this video (WMV file, 1,82 MB). Can you fly this low, or lower? Forgive me for the rough cut and the music, Windows Movie Maker sucks big time and I am still trying to get the PC sound to my DV camcorder. Averkey results are kinda blurry, too.

Thank you very much, Mr Frag. That did the trick! Now I can continue working in my "Ride of the Walkyries" Apocalypse Now recreation....

I have installed this pack (SEB Nam Pack V1.0) and the SEB Nam Pack Module A and I get a strange and annoying graphic bug: My OPF version is 1.46 (I don't have Resistance, yet...). In the SEB Nam Pack V1.0 zip there's a readme.txt that talks about "muzzle flash and T&L issues": </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">THe SEB Nam Pack is written to be compatible with the OFP release 1.46. Due to problems the game engine has with muzzle flash when T&L is enabled, you will need to disable T&L for this addon to work properly. This is caused by cfgmodels not working properly in 1.46. BIS are fixing this but the coding solution will crash a game run in 1.46. The Nam Pack V1 is not compatible with 1.60 MP beta. We will release a patch once BIS have released the fixed OFP version. You may still see the muzzle flash in the shadows, but that will disappear after changing views a few times.<span id='postcolor'> But I can't disable T&L under the options/video menu in OPF!!! (My graphic card is a GeForce 3 Ti500 with drivers 28.32) Any idea? Many thanks in advance

I've spent two days trying to download the patch, unsuccesfully. Apart from the BI site and 3D Gamers, do you know another mirror for the download? daniel.barcelona
